Social media users criticize Kim Kardashian over Christmas gift wrapping choice

In a recent Instagram post, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, 43, ignited a controversy surrounding her Christmas gift-wrapping choices.

Kardashian showcased her gifts wrapped in cotton jersey fabric T-shirts from her brand SKIMS, highlighting their potential for reuse.

Kim Kardashian posted, “Wrapping gifts in our family is always such a fun family tradition to see what each family member did and their vibe for the year. Each represents us so well! I did all-white SKIMS cotton jersey t-shirt fabric. I’m excited to reuse it and make other things.”

However, social media users were quick to point out the striking similarity between the packaging style and Muslim funeral shrouds.

The controversy gained momentum when users pointed out the striking resemblance between Kardashian’s wrapped gifts and the traditional Muslim practice of wrapping dead bodies in white cloth.

This practice is a significant aspect of Muslim burial rites, and users were quick to express their disapproval of Kardashian seemingly mimicking this solemn tradition for festive gift wrapping in light of the aggression Palestinians are undergoing.

A social media user said on X (former Twitter) “first the zombie football jerseys to mock little palestinian injured kids and now wrapping her christmas gifts in a a white cloth to mock dead palestinians. @KimKardashian has constantly proven that she’s inhumane. this is not a mere coincidence. Cancel her.”

Another user said, “Kim Kardashian hosting a Coke sponsored Christmas party. You can’t convince me this sh*t isn’t deliberate. You’re a billionaire, maybe pay for your own parties. Ones that aren’t funding a ge-no-cide.”

This is not the first time Kardashian has faced criticism for her choices related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Previously, she had attracted negative attention for her children’s Halloween costumes resembling injured Gaza children.

In addition to cultural insensitivity, critics also highlighted the perceived incongruity of Kardashian’s sustainability efforts, contrasting her eco-friendly gift wrapping with her frequent use of private jets and the resulting environmental impact.

It’s worth noting that Kardashian publicly expressed her support for Israel in the aftermath of the October 7 attack, issuing a statement that has not been revisited since.

This controversy echoes recent incidents involving fashion brands such as Zara and Marks and Spencer, where insensitivity to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict sparked public outrage.

Zara faced backlash for a campaign featuring a model draped in fabric resembling shrouded bodies, while Marks and Spencer drew criticism for an advertisement depicting the burning of Palestinian flag-colored papers.

  • Canadian PM Trudeau under fire for his son’s ‘headless’ halloween costume

Canadian PM Trudeau under fire for his son’s ‘headless’ halloween costume

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is under fire by netizens for his son’s pictures in a “headless” halloween costume, as people are reminded of the ongoing bombing in Gaza.

The headless costume showing a decapitated head in hand is a classic halloween costume which his youngest son Hadrien wore for the halloween. This provoked internet users to point out that more than 3,500 children have been killed in Israel’s bombing of the Gaza strip.
People deemed it to be inappropriate in times like these and from a leader like Trudeau who is so keen to be politically correct.

    A user wrote under Trudeau’s post, “tone-deaf”.

Another user suggested that the PM should dress up as an Israeli Soldier because the halloween they’re living is a reality, thanks to Canada’s terrifying support for one of the bloodiest, settler-colonial occupations that practices all war crimes in Palestine, including ethnic cleansing, extermination, and displacement.

Social researcher, Jelena Mitrovic slammed him for showing no respect to the killed kids of Gaza.

This is not for the first time that Justin Trudeau has earned flak from the internet. School pictures of the Premier in halloween costume dressed as a black Aladdin got him into trouble, for which he had to apologise later. One user Jay Nelson reminded the world about that.

‘She knew what she was doing’: Twitter users outraged at Kim Kardashian’s insensitive Halloween costume

Kim Kardashian is once more going viral for all the wrong reasons. The reality TV star was publicly criticised for her vocal support for Israel a few weeks ago as well as her ongoing silence on the genocide in Gaza which has now claimed close to 9000 civilian lives.

Kim posted pictures of her family celebrating Halloween, where her sons were seen dressed as injured football stars with bruises and bandages.

Twitter users were outraged, pointing out that the costumes bore an uncanny resemblance to photos of injured Palestinian children in football jerseys. Approximately 4000 children have been killed, as per the Gaza Ministry of Health.

“Isn’t scary to think that an actual child in Gaza actually looks like this now? But sure Kim have fun this Halloween…” a user commented.

“even if it wasn’t intentional, how many braincells do you need to read the room when social media is flooded with bloodied and broken children’s bodies stop looking up to these brain dead celebrities.” Another user posted.

However, Noor Bukhari did not like the photoshopped image and expressed her disappointment over it.

Sharing the picture on Instagram, Bukhari said: “Shouldn’t make fun of Saba or hijabis like this please.”

  • NASA captures ultraviolet image of the Sun ‘smiling’ back at Earth

NASA captures ultraviolet image of the Sun ‘smiling’ back at Earth

This week, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) captured an ultraviolet image of the sun with three black spots that resemble a smiling face. This face may be a harbinger of a solar storm that might cause issues for Earth.

A small geomagnetic storm watch has been issued for Saturday by the Space Weather Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. While geomagnetic storms may produce stunning auroras in the sky, they can also interfere with GPS and cause dangerous currents to flow through the electricity system and pipelines.

The coronal holes, which are black patches, are places where solar wind escapes into space more rapidly and readily, keeping those places colder. According to the Exploratorium, a museum in San Francisco, these winds may reach speeds of up to 1.8 million miles per hour.

People took advantage of the chance to create memes and change the smiling sun to resemble a pumpkin or the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from the Ghostbusters series.

In 2014, NASA acquired pictures of the sun that similarly resembled jack-o-lanterns and gave them the name “Pumpkin Sun.” The sun’s active regions, which are what made up the jack-o-face, lantern’s indicate magnetic field disruptions that give rise to solar storms like solar flares and coronal mass ejections.

Solar physicists employ telescopes that can picture the sun in the extreme ultraviolet spectrum because the human eye cannot see some wavelengths of sunlight. SDO highlights a specific region of the sun’s atmosphere using 13 different light wavelengths.

“Ultraviolet light from the sun can show us the origins of solar storms that can lead to power outages, cell phone disruptions, and delays in shipping packages due to the rerouting of planes from over the pole,” Joseph Gurman, a researcher at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Solar Data Analysis Center said.

“Wednesday’s image was taken at 193 angstrom light, giving it the yellow, light orange hue. The 2014 image was taken at a blend of 171 and 193 angstrom light, colorizing the sun in gold and yellow “to create a Halloween-like appearance,” according to NASA.

Shockingly, both pictures were taken in October, just in time for Halloween.

Yasir Hussain reveals he once lived with a ghost

Halloween means that everyone gets a chance to share their encounters with the supernatural.

Yasir Hussain, while speaking to a local media publication, revealed that he once lived with a ghost.

“I used to live in a two-bedroom apartment,” shared the actor. “While I lived in one of the rooms, a supernatural old man used to live in the other.”

He continued: “I don’t know what he was but he never disturbed me. In the morning, he would come into the lounge and say his Fajr prayers and when my friends would come over, he would go into the kitchen and start moving the utensils. I would call out to him not to make noise because my friends were over and he would stop.”

“I never got scared but my friends did,” said the actor.

Sharing another spooky incident, Yasir said that when he was shooting for horror drama Dareecha in a house in Karachi’s PECHS area, strange things would keep happening there.

“Shoots would get stalled and things would move around themselves,” shared the actor. “One day, the woman from whom the house had been rented came around and said to one of the crew to take care of her son. He asked her where her son was and she said that he lived in the home.”

“We later found out that someone had committed suicide in the home after which the woman had moved away and rented it out,” added the actor.

Yasir, however, said that such things don’t bother him and he doesn’t get scared by them.

  • Halloween 2020 and the blue hunter’s moon

Halloween 2020 and the blue hunter’s moon

For the first time since World War II, people in all parts of the world will be able to see the October 31’s blue hunter’s moon.

Halloween may look different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but we have a cool spooky spectacle to look forward to. October has not one, but two full moons — and because it’s 2020, the second one naturally falls on Halloween which is tonight. That gives this year 13 full moons instead of the usual 12.

The blue moon seems rare; a full moon on Halloween across time zones is even rarer, an event that hasn’t occurred since 1944. There was a full moon on Halloween in 2001, but it was only visible in the Central and Pacific Time zones, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.

However, the expected full Halloween moon again is to be seen in 2039, 2058, 2077 and 2096.

October’s first full moon was the harvest moon on October 1, and the second is a rare full Halloween blue hunter’s moon.

    Harvest moon 2020

The full moon that will be visible tonight is called the blue moon because it’s the second full moon of the same month. It’ll be a rare treat as the 2020 Halloween full moon will be visible to the entire world, rather than just parts of it.

While the moon won’t actually look blue, the second full moon in one month is usually referred to as a blue moon. This happens every 2.5 to three years, or “once in a blue moon.”

Typically, the next moon after the harvest moon is known as the hunter’s moon – when hunters used moonlight to hunt prey and prepare for winter.

Each month of 2020 has brought its own surprises which have been comparable to many spooky memories and myths. When I got to know about the full moon on Halloween, the first thing that came into my mind was that if any spooky event will happen tonight.

Back in my childhood, I used to watch a drama on PTV named Haqeeqat in which there was a little girl Muqaddas, who was possessed. She would occasionally turn into a monster and Halloween’s full moon reminded me of that.

Twitter users also speculate that this Halloween, it is possible that the world will witness an unexpected event or someone will turn into a werewolf or a zombie or an apocalypse will take place tonight.

  • Four ‘spooky’ places in Pakistan

    Four ‘spooky’ places in Pakistan

There are different places in some major cities of Pakistan that are believed to be haunted by the undead. Here is the list of few spooky legends that might make your Halloween a little more spooky.

    1. Red-dressed Bride at the Karsaz Road

The main Karsaz Road in Karachi is known for being one of Pakistan’s most haunted destinations. Back in the 1960s, a newlywed couple was driving on Karsaz Road, when they got into a terrible road accident and died on the spot. Since then, the locals have reported that many people who take this route have witnessed a bride in a traditional red dress, walking alone on the road and disappearing after a few minutes.

    2. Crying Fairies on Lake Saif-ul-Malook

Even the beautiful lake in the Kaghan Valley is included in the category of the scariest places in Pakistan. Legend says that a Prince of Persia fell in love with Saif-ul-Malook’s fairy princess, but since the fairy was promised to a Demon, the union could not go through. The Demon killed them and it is believed that cries of the fairies, mourning the death of the two lovers, can be heard at night.

    3. Moving things at Mohatta Palace

Mohatta Palace Museum located in Karachi is also one of the spookiest places in Pakistan. Back in 1927, the palace belonged to a Rajasthani businessman and is said to be haunted by his ghost ever since he died. Word on the street is that the guards have felt the presence of unseen creatures during their night duty, and have occasionally observed different things moving from their actual position.

    4. Forty bodies at Koh-e-Chiltan Peak

Located in the Balochistan province, Koh-i-Chiltan Peak means “forty bodies” in the local language. According to the natives, the area is surrounded by the spirits of forty babies who were left abandoned by their parents on the mountain. The peak is avoided by the locals, who are reported to have heard the noises of those children from the top.
