Pakistani celebrities defend Kashmir after Hrithik Roshan’s derogatory ‘maalik’ comment

In the world of entertainment, movies are a way to tell stories, represent cultures, and express art. But sometimes, a movie can cause problems when it goes too far and includes content that is offensive. Recently, a Bollywood movie called ‘Fighter’ landed in controversy after Pakistani celebrities strongly reacted to what they thought was anti-Pakistani element.

The film has been accused of showing Pakistan in a negative light and promoting harmful stereotypes.

At one point in the movie, Hrithik Roshan says, “We are the owners, Pakistan has occupied Kashmir. (maalik hum Hain)”

Actors like Zara Noor Abbas took to social media to express anger.

Actor Asad Siddiqui vented on Instagram by saying, “It’s the same old story! Aren’t you guys tired of selling false stuff? Grow up! The world is moving forward, and you’re still promoting this cheap story of hatred. You could have promoted peace instead.”
He suggested checking facts that everyone knows, mentioning the incident where a MiG-21 was shot and the pilot was captured but released after a cup of tea.

Hira Khan, another showbiz star, also brought up the ‘tea’ incident, saying, “It’s sad that big superstars need to criticize Pakistan to make their movies work. I feel sorry for you guys.”

Adnan Siddiqui took to X to state, “Once celebrated for love, Bollywood now crafts hate-filled narratives, portraying us as villains. Despite our love for your films, it’s disheartening. Art transcends boundaries; let’s use it to promote love and peace. Two nations, victims of politics, deserve better.”

Hania Aamir, who is liked by people from both sides of the border, shared on her Instagram Story, “It’s really sad and unfortunate to find out that there are artists today who know how influential cinema is but still go ahead and create differences between the two countries. I feel sorry for the artists who believe in using their art to bring people together. It’s not good. Let art be free.”

The controversy around ‘Fighter’ arose from its trailer, which revealed that the movie revolves around an attack on Indian air forces in Pulwama. It references real events like the Pulwama attack and India’s actions in Balakot.

Gill further said that there were times when she felt that the pain was so severe that she felt like giving up. However, her belief and faith kept her going and with that belief in Allah, she decided not to give up and reached out for help.

“Despite the fear of being called mentally challenged, a psycho or someone that can just not be labelled normal (which are all such shameful terms to give to anyone suffering from the illness of an organ called brain just like other organs can get infected it can too) I started taking therapy,” shared the actor, adding that when therapy hit a wall for her, she opted for medication which helped her recover from depression.

Yashma asserted that “just like other organs in our body that can get infected, the brain is an organ too and can get infected so there is nothing abnormal in that. What’s abnormal is for anyone to not worry about taking care of it or getting it treated like the rest of the organs.”

She concluded by requesting her followers and those reading her note to be kind and empathetic towards each other and not to hurt anyone.

Singer-cum-actor Farhan Saeed opened up on his professional equation with costars Hania Aamir, Iqra Aziz and wife Urwa Hocane in an interview. Saeed shared what’s most important to him when it comes to his co-stars.

He said, “The only thing I focus on when it comes to heroines is that their vibes and energy should be positive, not only with me, but overall they should be unproblematic, then I think I’ll click.”

Farhan added, “Until now all the heroines have been good to me, be it Iqra Aziz, Hania Aamir or even Urwa Hocane, they all are very nice people anyway but I really like unproblematic attitude, otherwise inner peace gets disrupted and I face problems in connecting with them.”

Last month he also issued a statement on his equation with his wife Urwa in a recent interview amidst the couple’s patch-up rumours.

The Mere Hamsafar star said, “The masses just have so much to say about everything, and some of their comments can be hurtful.”

“We just want to keep some parts of our lives to ourselves.”

Saeed further stated that the change came because of social media as the hate on the internet makes him panicky.

Earlier this year, he addressed the public speculation about his personal life and equation with Hocane.

While getting candid about it, he stated that the constant speculation and interference in his personal life is a part of his job as when fans shower him with so much love it is understandable that they are emotionally invested and want to know more.

“Ideally, I think to comment on the things which are shared but that’s idealism. When you are famous and in the public eye, there is always a price to pay. Criticism and praise come hand in hand. Just answer want you to want to and ignore other things.”

The Suno Chanda star added further that he just answers what he wishes to and ignores everything else as every job comes with its advantages and disadvantages.

Earlier last year it was reported that Farhan and Urwa have parted ways amicably, however recently some news portals informed that maybe the couple has reconciled. However the Udaari pair has never made a public statement about their split or alleged patch-up.

  • Problematic: Dramatised death scenes of female protagonist’s father in Pakistani dramas

Problematic: Dramatised death scenes of female protagonist’s father in Pakistani dramas

Pakistan is a third world nation, the majority population is rooted in patriarchal norms and customs, and crimes against women are alarming, our dramas don’t do a lot in trying to eradicate the misogynistic morals demanded from a woman.

A female in a patriarchal society is often burdened with the responsibility of carrying the family’s honor all on her own and Pakistani dramas continue to further mindset by introducing increasingly problematic tropes.

Many recently released dramas featured sequences of a father not being able to handle his daughter’s misfortunes and ending up dead because of it. This has now become repetitive to garner ratings by sensationalising the death of a heroine’s father. The fathers’ biggest problem are often associated with the daughter’s married life. It really is an unfortunate development of recent times that mainstream media has further escalated the regressive mindsets about the parental burdens of a daughter. Scenes of a father suffering from a fatal heart attack because of the disgraceful situations that arose due to the daughter’s actions or misfortunes.

Ayeza Khan’s Meherposh shows the female protagonist’s father getting a heart attack the moment Mehru’s husband divorces her in front of her entire family in a very distasteful dramatic sequence. The father dies as he couldn’t bear the dishonor his daughter’s misfortune brought the family.

Drama serial Jhooti starring Iqra Aziz showcased Nirma as the trouble maker of the family.

Ghalati | From love to remorse - ARY Digital

ARY’s Ghalati also had a sequence where the female protagonist’s father dies of a heart attack after he sees his daughter being divorced amidst a family gathering. In other dramas if the fathers are not shown to directly drop dead because of their daughter’s misfortunes, the dramas push them to death by indirectly making the daughter the culprit for it.

RUSWAI” A BRUTAL REALITY OF OUR SOCIETY | by whatsapp with Me | Medium

Ruswai based on a rape victim, showed a father of a gang-rape survivor dealing with how the incident has shaken up the lives of both his children. He tries his best to settle things however, he is unable to do so. He feels helpless and in an emotionally burdened state, he loses his life in a car crash. Zebaish Episode 1 HUM TV Drama 12 June 2020 - video Dailymotion

The heroine’s father in Zebaish dies trying to save his daughter from falling victim to the evil plans of the villain.

The trivialization of ethos attached to a daughter’s married life for a dotting father has been brutally dramatized and exploited by the scriptwriters for cheap thrilling sequences in the drama. The death sequences are also used to justify juvenile twists and plot changes.

Why are the fathers of only female characters shown to have such terrible consequences due to their daughters’ actions or their dwindling married life?

Fathers, are believed to be the biggest support system of a girl. But our Pakistani dramas have made the parents yet another way for a female character to face more miseries. They are pushed to death or shown to be out of their senses to either punish the female character’s wrongdoings, for instance, Jalan, or just to add some more misery to the female character’s life.

Daughters are supposed to be blessings and they should be shown in the same light instead of a burden that ultimately crushes her parents to death.
