Shagufta Ejaz not happy with changes in TV Dramas, prefers how things used to be

Veteran television star Shagufta Ejaz is not happy with the way dramas are shaping out these days. Neither are we, to be honest.

Recently, the actress appeared on the TV show Gup Shup hosted by Vasay Chaudhary. During the show, she discussed the professionalism of the older generation of actors compared to newer ones. She also shared her views on the latest trends in the drama industry.

“Actors had patience back then, but current actors seem to lack it. We were very skilled in our work, but now actors don’t seem to have that same level of skill and maturity. Today’s actors achieve success and financial stability quickly, while it took us decades to reach that level of success. In the past, actors prioritized their work, focusing on their craft without many distractions. They concentrated on their performance rather than on sets and surroundings.”

  • Finland is world’s happiest country for seventh year: study

Finland is world’s happiest country for seventh year: study

Helsinki (AFP) – Finland remained the world’s happiest country for a seventh straight year in an annual UN sponsored World Happiness Report published on Wednesday.

And Nordic countries kept their places among the 10 most cheerful, with Denmark, Iceland and Sweden trailing Finland.

Afghanistan, plagued by a humanitarian catastrophe since the Taliban regained control in 2020, stayed at the bottom of the 143 countries surveyed.

For the first time since the report was published more than a decade ago, the United States and Germany were not among the 20 happiest nations, coming in 23rd and 24th respectively.

In turn, Costa Rica and Kuwait entered the top 20 at 12 and 13.

The report noted the happiest countries no longer included any of the world’s largest countries.

“In the top 10 countries only the Netherlands and Australia have populations over 15 million. In the whole of the top 20, only Canada and the UK have populations over 30 million.”

The sharpest decline in happiness since 2006-10 was noted in Afghanistan, Lebanon and Jordan, while the Eastern European countries Serbia, Bulgaria and Latvia reported the biggest increases.

The happiness ranking is based on individuals’ self-assessed evaluations of life satisfaction, as well as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and corruption.

    Growing inequality

Jennifer De Paola, a happiness researcher at the University of Helsinki in Finland, told AFP that Finns’ close connection to nature and healthy work-life balance were key contributors to their life satisfaction.

In addition, Finns may have a “more attainable understanding of what a successful life is”, compared to for example the United States where success is often equated with financial gain, she said.

Finns’ strong welfare society, trust in state authorities, low levels of corruption and free healthcare and education were also key.

“Finnish society is permeated by a sense of trust, freedom, and high level of autonomy,” De Paola said.

This year’s report also found that younger generations were happier than their older peers in most of the world’s regions — but not all.

In North America, Australia and New Zealand, happiness among groups under 30 has dropped dramatically since 2006-10, with older generations now happier than the young.

By contrast, in Central and Eastern Europe, happiness increased substantially at all ages during the same period, while in Western Europe people of all ages reported similar levels of happiness.

Happiness inequality increased in every region except Europe, which authors described as a “worrying trend”.

The rise was especially distinct among the old and in Sub-Saharan Africa, reflecting inequalities in “income, education, health care, social acceptance, trust, and the presence of supportive social environments at the family, community and national levels,” the authors said.

  • Tumharay Husn Kay Naam: A progressive story comes to a happy conclusion

Tumharay Husn Kay Naam: A progressive story comes to a happy conclusion

It is said “All is well that ends well”, a saying that perfectly captures our feelings for the show Tumharay Husan kay Naam. The drama series that had a slow narrative was weaved so meticulously that the ending made it all worth it.

The coming-of-age story ended beautifully, capturing the essence of true love. Saba Qamar and Imran Abbas portrayed the characters of Salma and Sikandar perfectly; no one else could have done it better.

The actual crescendo was the point when Salma and Sikander’s children put their parents’ happiness before themselves. The last declaration of love by Omar and his acceptance of his father was not just heart-melting but the messaging was done absolutely sensitively. The real win for the drama was its progressive outlook. More of this please, Pakistani script writers!

Everything, from the story to the dialogue and acting, is well-done. The writer, director, and actors of the show deserve a big round of applause for taking it to a satisfying culmination keeping its essence of old-school romance intact.
As we say goodbye, we are reminded of the memorable tune of the show, echoing the poet’s words, “The music in my heart I bore long after it was heard no more.” The excitement for Monday episodes, the soulful title track, and the chance to escape from daily routine and connect with the main characters as they navigate through challenging relationships—all of that comes to a graceful end.

Peshawar Zalmi’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore ‘happy’ to be in Karachi, isolating in hotel room

English cricketer Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who will be playing for Peshawar Zalmi, has arrived in Karachi for the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and he has said in a video message that he is happy to be here.

The right-handed batter is in the madatory quarantine in the team hotel room in Karachi and has recorded a message for his fans.

“It’s been a long journey but happy to be here and can’t wait to go out of the isolation in three-days time and meet up with the lads and get going in the competition,” said Tom in a video shared by Zalmi.

Pakistan national team pacer Wahab Riaz is leading the Peshawar franchise. According to former Pakistan cricket team captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Zalmi along with Lahore Qalandars have the best team combinations.

Peshawar had earlier announced that the franchise has retained Liam Livingstone, Wahab Riaz, Haider Ali, Sherfane Rutherford, Shoaib Malik, Saqib Mahmood, and Tom.

The 2017 champions also picked fast bowler Arshad Iqbal, wicket-keeper-batter Kamran Akmal, and spinner Usman Qadir.

Akmal, however, was unhappy over being picked in the Silver category and announced his withdrawal from the tournament.

But Peshawar Zalmi and Kamran Akmal resolved the dispute between them a few days later as Akmal agreed to play for Zalmi in the seventh edition of the PSL.

Usman Qadir joined Zalmi from Multan Sultans.

Zalmi will kick off their PSL 7 campaign by taking on Quetta Gladiators on January 28 with the tournament set to be starting from January 27 at the National Stadium Karachi.

The suspect left his knife behind when he ran away, and later walked into a convenience store and identified himself as the suspect on the news, and said he was tired of running away. The store manager called the police after seeing bloodstains on the man’s shirt.

Another local media outlet said he told the police he developed the intent to kill women who “looked happy” and stabbed a woman who happened to be seated near him in the train. He also told the police that he chose to stage the attack inside a train because it offered the chance to kill a large number of people.

The suspect was also carrying cooking oil and a lighter, with which he allegedly intended to set fire inside the carriage, NHK reported.

A witness at a nearby station where the train stopped said passengers were moving out of the carriages asking for help and shouting that there was a stabbing. Another witness told NHK that he saw passengers smeared with blood come out of the train, as an announcer asked for doctors and for passengers carrying towels.

Paramedics and police immediately arrived at the station, one of the witnesses said.
