    Female staff being harassed by seniors in Multan Development Agency for not following illegal orders

    Journalist Salman Qureshi has filed a detailed report about the discriminatory system and exploitation of the Multan Development Authority.

    According to the details filed in Daily Express, the Director General of Multan Development Agency (MDA) has started harassing women officers who did not obey illegal orders.

    A senior female officer at Multan Development Authority refused to work under a junior officer. The Director General MDA, in response, rejected her request for leave.

    According to the details, the Director General, Dr. Zahid Ikram, removed the director of town planning, Anaiza Hira, and gave the charge of the directorship to a junior officer, Ali Raza.

    As a result, senior officers, including Dr. Anaiza Hira, refused to work under the junior officer.

    Dr. Hira then submitted a leave application after being removed from her post, but Dr. Ikram did not accept her request and kept it hanging for days, directing administration officers to do likewise.

    It is also being reported that the female officers have been reprimanded. Under these circumstances, reports of the female officers fainting have also come to light. One female officer who fainted was given the required treatment within the office premises after calling the dispenser.

    In another case, assistant director of the town planning department, Sanbla Mumtaz, was called to the office and reprimanded for carrying out a task. Out of tension and under stress, she fell unconscious.

    Female employees were called to pick her up who then shifted her to another room and called the dispenser to provide first aid in the office.

    This was followed by a wave of anxiety among other women officers who no longer feel safe.

    Actress Mariyam Nafees has had enough with stalkers assuming it’s their right to be lewd to actresses.

    Nafees shared a screenshot on her Instagram stories of a message she recieved from an unknown person, who was trying to solicit a meeting with her after seeing her at the Lux Style Awards. The stalker tried to persuade Mariyam to hold a meeting, and asked her to name an amount.

    To which she had responded: “Bet your mom is ashamed to have a child like you. Not every woman is ‘bought-able’ you s****. Good luck dealing with my ‘friends’!”

    Mariyam shared the screenshot of the conversation and wrote in the caption: “Married or not- this never stops! Actors are not prostitutes!”

    In her next post, Nafees shared the complete contact information of the stalker, writing that she plans to expose the harassers this way.

    Another woman messaged Mariyam, whose conversation screenshots the actress shared in her Instagram stories. In the conversation, the woman solicited the actress to agree to take a photoshoot with a Pakistani magazine which innvolved “political level parties and bold shoots.”

    In 2021, Mariyam shared pictures of the indecent messages she recieved on Instagram from a man who asked her to visit his friend for a few hours and in return she’d recieve three lacs. Sharing the messages, the actress wrote in the caption:

    “The point of putting this up is because I truly want to put a stop to this.
    I don’t know who’s responsible for these morons to think this way and who’s entertaining them but no! Absolutely not! I and my esteemed co-actresses respectfully work for twelve hours (sometimes more) everyday and we refuse to tolerate this mentality. We come from educated backgrounds to make a name for ourselves, nobody and I mean NOT A SINGLE PERSON is allowed to disrespect us.

    Actresses are not prostitutes!”

    Her outspoken message was applauded by Adnan Siddiqui who defended her in a tweet, pointing out that actors were professionals like everyone else and were not for sale.

    “For those who think otherwise, let me put the record straight. Actors are NOT for sale. We work hard and work honestly as much as any other professional. No one’s allowed to disrespect us. Atta girl MariyamNafees”, Adnan tweeted.

    Farid Town police in Sahiwal have arrested the manager and assistant manager of a wedding marquee at 96/6-R village, for reportedly installing hidden cameras in the bridal dressing room.

    Complainant Muhammad Arshad from 94/6-R village had booked his daughter’s wedding at Grand Imperial Marriage Hall on September 1, 2023.

    DAWN has reported that the man said that when his daughter went into the dressing room to change, she and her mother heard voices through the walls.

    Arshad’s wife informed him about it after which, along with his son Ali Akbar and cousin Tariq Hussain, he went to the adjacent room only to find a video recording setup connected with the camera capturing the activities of the bridal room.

    A man pointed a gun at them, while the manager and his assistant escaped the premises.
    He called the police on 15 helpline after which the manager and his assistant, Umer Iqbal and Javed Munir, were arrested.

    A case (FIR No 1495/23) has been registered against both the suspects and their accomplice who had pointed a pistol at the complainant, under sections 292 and 506/B of the PPC on the complaint of Arshad.

    Arshad has demanded that the district police officer conduct an investigation, and recover all the videos made by the suspects because they might have or could use it to blackmail and exploit women.

    Saudi court orders media to publicly disclose identity of harasser doctor

    A Saudi court has sentenced a doctor to five years in prison after he was found guilty of harassing a nurse, ordering the media to publicise the case and expose the harasser.

    The doctor was reportedly a Syrian who sexually harassed a Filipino nurse.

    Hospital management sent the issue to Public Prosecution which led to an extensive investigation, proving the doctor guilty of misconduct.

    The arrest was made without any delay after solid proof against the doctor and legal proceedings were initiated right away.

    In criminal court, the doctor was initially ordered to to pay SR5,000 in fine and sentenced to one year in prison but then the Court of Appeal increased the sentence to five years.

    In addition to the prison sentence, the Saudi court also issued an order to publicly disclose the doctor’s name.

    15-year-old British school girl murdered while trying to protect friend

    A 15-year-old school girl has been stabbed to death in South London by a 17-year-old boy on Wednesday when she was on her way to school. According to the Evening Standard, the crime took place near Croydon’s Whitgift shopping sector, when the boy arrived at a bus stop to give flowers to his former girlfriend- a friend of the victim.

    The friend rejected the flowers after which an argument rose between the two, leading to the victim intervening. The murderer then pulled out a foot-long knife and stabbed her to death.

    The Metropolitan Police arrested the murderer within 75 minutes in New Addington and placed him under custody. Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley called the murder “senseless” and “impossible to comprehend”, adding that officers arrived within two minutes at the scene of the crime to provide first aid to the victim.

    The BBC reported Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said that he was “absolutely heartbroken” by the murder, stressing that he would remain in touch with the Met Police commissioner.

    Friends and family members of the victim have described the school girl as a bright pupil who had a promising future ahead of her. Family friend Adama Dumbuya, told Sky News the victim was a lovely little girl.

    “It’s just really sad. She was such a lovely little girl. I’m a parent myself. She was just really lovely the few times I’ve met her. She’s just a very nice girl and very polite.”

    The victim’s aunt Marian described her as an aspiring lawyer:

    “She went to a private school paid by my sister and had a great future ahead of her. She wanted to be a lawyer. She also loved gymnastics and doing her hair. We are a big family and will support each other. We are devastated.”

    “We can’t comprehend the heartbreak of the last 24 hours. She went to school and didn’t come home. It hasn’t sunk in. My sister is not feeling good, this is a tragedy.”

    The owner of Peshawar’s famous Charsi Tikka restaurant, Nisar Khan, has been arrested by the Shah Gabool Police after videos emerged on social media of him misbehaving with foreign tourists.

    According to ARY, police arrested Nisar after receiving several complaints from foreign tourists, particularly foreign women. A case was lodged against him under the complaint of SI Naeem.

    The police told ARY that Namak Mandi Food Street has attracted foreign tourists and local travellers, while Charsi Tikka is a well known restaurant.

    Four women accuse comedian Russell Brand of rape, sexual assault

    In a shocking expose by the Sunday Times, four women have publicly accused comedian Russell Brand of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse during the years 2006 to 2013, when his career was on its peak. The publication said all the women had chosen to remain anonymous, and felt ready to speak after being approached by reporters.

    A joint investigation carried out by Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatch said that two of the women, Los Angeles residents, alleged being raped and sexually assaulted by the comedian, with the second woman revealing that Brand threatened to take legal action against her if she went public with her allegations.

    Another woman revealed she was 16-years-old when Brand assaulted her, at a time when hewas in his early 30s, referring to her as a “child” during their emotionally abusive and controlling relationship.

    “Russell engaged in the behaviors of a groomer, looking back, but I didn’t even know what that was then, or what that looked like,” the woman said.

    The fourth woman alleged she was assaulted by the comedian.

    A day before the allegations by The Times were to be released, Russell released a video where he slammed the “serious criminal allegations” that were about to be made against him.

    The former husband of singer Katy Perry said in the video released on X, formerly Twitter:

    “Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.

    “These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies, and as I’ve written about extensively in my books I was very, very promiscuous.

    “Now during that time of promiscuity the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.”

    In light of the rape accusations, several users have reshared a clip from a 2013 Vogue interview of Katy Perry, who married and then divorced the comedian in 2012. Brand had publicly divorced the singer with a breakup text, which was shown in the singer’s ‘Part Of Me’ documentary.

    “I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day,” the ‘Roar’ singer said. “I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that.”

    The BBC have meanwhile responded to the allegations, saying that they were “urgently looking into the issues raised” by the allegations. Brand worked as a radio presenter for the channel in 2006 and 2008, and The Times quoted a complaint made to the organisation’s management about the comedian’s “alarming display of aggression and disrespect”.

    Channel 4 released a statement saying that they “asked the production company who produced the programmes for Channel 4 to investigate these allegations and report their findings properly and satisfactorily to us”.

    The organisation added they were conducting an internal investigation and encouraged “anyone who is aware of such behaviour to contact us directly.”

    ‘Culpa Mia’ actor Gabriel Guevara arrested on sexual assault charges

    Spanish actor Gabriel Guevara has been arrested at the Venice Film Festival on an international arrest warrant accusing him of sexual assault in France, as reported by Hollywood Reporter. The actor was set to receive the best young actor honor award given out by Filming Italy. After his arrest, the organisation released a statement saying they had cancelled the award as a precautionary measure, and were waiting for the outcome of the case.

    The Venice Film Festival posted a statement on their official account to address the arrest:

    “#BiennaleCinema2023#Venezia80#LaBiennaleDiVenezia would like to specify that the presence in #Venice of Spanish actor #GabrielGuevara, that some press websites have recently reported as being under arrest, was not linked to any activity or production of the 80th Venice International Film Festival.”

    Guevara sky rocketed to international fame after the Amazon Prime movie ‘Culpa Mia’ where he played the rebellious step brother, Nick, who clashes with his step sister Noah (played by Nicole Wallace) after she moves to their mansion after their parents re-marry. The two originally start off as enemies, but soon come to realise their feelings for each other can’t be ignored.

    Man caught masturbating, ejaculating on minor girl In Delhi Metro: NDTV

    An Indian man reportedly masturbated and ejaculated on a minor girl travelling in the Delhi Metro train, NDTV has reported. According to officials, he has been handed over to the police.

    The incident took place on Wednesday around 8:30 pm on the Red Line of the Delhi Metro. The officials told Press Trust of India that at the time, the train was crowded because of Rakshabandhan festivities.

    The mother of the minor girl saw that the man had ejaculated on her daughter and immediately got down at the Seelampur metro station.

    The man was from West Bengal. Two passengers who witnessed the incident held him down and took him to Delhi Metro authorities at the Shahdara station, reported Press Trust of India.

    The station authorities later informed the police.

    The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement that such incidents are “extremely unsavoury and against the dignity of passengers and all societal norms”.

    “In this particular case, we appreciate the response of the fellow passengers who brought it to the attention of the DMRC staff. Taking prompt action, the DMRC personnel handed over the accused to the police and an FIR has been registered for further necessary action.

    “We would yet again request our commuters to behave responsibly while travelling by the Metro and help in creating a congenial travelling environment where all passengers irrespective of age or gender can travel safely and comfortably,” it said.

    The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) also issued a notice to the deputy commissioner of police (Metro), urging for action to be taken by September 5.

    The panel has also sought details of the arrested culprit and steps taken to prevent such incidents in future, reports NDTV.

    FIA arrests harasser, Iqra University denies any connection

    Iqra University Islamabad has denied association with its former director Rizwan Barri. 

    The Current has received an official email from Iqra University in which they denied any connection with Barri. 

    The university has claimed that Barri procured his appointment at Iqra University on 11 October, 2022 through “fraud and misrepresentation” based on fake educational documents and degrees. Five months later, on March 10, 2023, he was terminated from the university. They claim that the on-going case pertains to conduct committed in his personal capacity and has nothing to do with Iqra Univeristy.

    On August 20, however, 24 News, Jang News, and PNN reported the case and referred to Rizwan Barri as the director of Iqra University. It was reported that he was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on charges of harassing female students.

    As per FIA sources, Barri had made an email address as well as social media accounts in the name of a girl. By pretending to be a girl on social media, he sent objectionable content to several people.

    The case was registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Act and further investigations were underway.

    According to PNN news, Director Rizwan Bari had harassed more than 70 female students and resultantly, some girls left their degree midway due to the constant blackmail. Despite these cases, Barri continued to work there.

    When asked about Barri’s exact job description during his appointment at Iqra University, the university refused to provide the information.
