    We all knew Mahira Khan was in love, just not with whom. In a recent live session with designer Hassan Shehryar Yasin, we not only find out about Mahira’s mystery man but some more details about her love life.

    HSY, while asking Mahira about ‘the one’ accidentally mentioned that his name is Salim, much to Mahira’s chagrin. However, when HSY apologised and continued to ask how she feels when she looks into his eyes, Mahira said, “There’s a line in Humsafar, which I thought was beautiful, where Ashar says to Khirad, ‘Pata nahi tum mujhe kis naiki kay badlay main milli ho. I think the same about him. I must have done something good in my life.”

    Mahira added that she feels the same way about other people in her life, including her son Azlaan.

    “I feel super, super grateful for my child too, he’s the centre of my world. My world revolves around him, and I feel the same way about him, the people I love” she remarked.

    Earlier, when the designer had asked Mahira if he was the one and if there’s a wedding around the corner, the actor said, “I think marriages are beautiful and weddings even more fun. But I don’t think marriage is the be-all and end of. It’s another step, yes, but I think in our society, it’s a big deal.”

    “But if you ask me if he’s the one, yes he’s the one.”

    Mahira added: “When you find someone, where you and him are not just in an isolated thing. But his friends are your friends, your friends are his friends and his family is your family and vice versa, it’s such a good feeling.”

    At that point HSY asked Mahira to reveal the name but she shied away. HSY also said that Mahira’s beau is an incredible person, “very handsome and smart as hell”.

    While, there is no official confirmation as yet, it is rumoured that Mahira’s beau is Karachi-based entrepreneur Salim Karim, with whom she has been spotted at several occasions, including a wedding in Turkey.

    Minal was invited to the show with her contemporary Iqra Aziz. On being asked about the first thing that comes to her mind when she hears his name, the Ishq Hai diva said that he is too short.

    The duo never worked together before or after this interview.

    Minal’s answer made Iqra react to her statement with a burst of laughter and a high five. Although Iqra recently worked with Feroze in the successful small screen outing, Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3.

    Ushna Shah is amongst the most talented actresses of her generation, however, she is equally known for her frank opinions on public platforms. Ushna made a controversial remark on HSY’s chat show which created a stir within the industry.

    In conversation with Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY) on his show, Tonight with HSY, the Balaa actress was asked which of the actresses need a nose job? The options given to her were; Mahira Khan, Meesha Shafi and Urwa Hocane. The actress said: “I think Urwa has already got her nose job done. So, Meesha.”

    Shah was accompanied with her Alif Allah Aur Insaan co-actor Mikaal Zulfiqar.

    Shah is known for her unapologetic and unfiltered opinions. Recently, she also lashed out at Canadian travel vlogger Rosie Gabrielle as she recently called out the local tourists in her social media post for ‘destroying Hunza’s beauty’ and ‘spreading vulgarity’ in the area.

    Pehli Si Muhabbat may not be high on masala and is developing slowly, rather at a snail’s pace, but it certainly comes with a strong message. The latest episode of the drama (Episode 9) sheds light on a topic often overlooked in Pakistani dramas – the importance of a woman’s consent in marriage.

    Aslam (Sheheryar Munawar) and Rakshi (Maya Ali) have finally started telling family members about their love for each other and their desire to marry. Aslam has broken off his engagement with Bushra (Hina Afridi) and has let his Mamu know that he cannot marry her. On the other hand, Rakshi’s father Faizullah (Shabbir Jan) has decided to finalise Rakshi’s rishta with his friend’s son. When he tells his wife Nargis (Rabia Butt) of this, the conversation that follows needs to be broadcast everywhere loud and clear.

    When Faizullah tells his wife that in their riwaj and culture, girls are not consulted before their own marriage, Nargis says: “Allah nay auraton kay baaray main jo ahkamat diye hain na, unkay baaray main bhi thora sa jaan lo. Waisay tum mard bhi na baray theek ho. Deen bhi sirf mardon ka rakhtay ho. Nikkah say pehlay Allah nay beti ki marzi janana zaruri kiya hai.”

    In response, Faizullah dismisses Nargis’ comments, saying that she doesn’t know anything.

    “Allah ki kitaab na humain bhi parhayi jaati hai Faizullah. Bismillah aur Ameen toh humari bhi hoti hai,” adds Nargis before leaving Faizullah to reflect on her words.

    In a country where women are often overlooked in the rishta process and told that the elders (read: men) in their family decide their future, such scenes and conversations give the audiences food for thought and can enable the wheels of change. It is also refreshing to watch this on-screen because most dramas paint those women wanting to marry of their choice as besharam (shameless) and wanton with their end also usually terrible.

    Kudos to Faiza Iftikhar for these brilliant dialogues and to Anjum Shehzad for wonderfully executing the scene. Butt has been a powerhouse of talent throughout the episode, conversing through her eyes and body language and delivering one blazing scene after another – whether it was her conversation with Faizullah, confrontation with Niggi Apa or the way she handled Rakshi.

    Another person who is really standing out in the drama is Munawar. Sheheryar has owned Aslam to the very core and the scene in which he gives Niggi Apa a taste of her own medicine makes you cheer on him.

    Now that Aslam and Rakshi’s secret is out in the open, it will interesting to see what happens next. All I hope is that the drama starts moving faster else audiences will lose interest.

    Fashion weeks have lost their charm, says HSY

    Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY), in a recent interview with The Current, agreed that recent fashion weeks have lost their charm.

    Responding to a question on if he thinks fashion weeks have lost their charm, HSY said: “I do. Fashion weeks have lost their charm because everyone looks alike now. All shows are sticking to the same formula now.”

    “I think all shows should have a different identity because two shows with similar choreography, background and format would leave people bored,” he continued.

    “The spice in fashion is diversity,” added the designer.

    When asked which fashion statement he thinks need to be thrown out of the window, HSY said: “A fashion statement is your self-reflection. If I tell you to throw something out of the window, then that’s not your self-reflection. I don’t believe in trends, trends are what you like.”

    “If you think a statement is good for you, do it,” he added.

    Later, while responding to a question on if the fashion industry is a toxic place, HSY said: “I’ve heard that working at a grocery store is also very toxic. I’ve heard that a fight between your aunts at home is also very toxic. I’ve heard that if two people get into a fight while changing a car’s tyres at a workshop, even that is very toxic.”

    “Toxicity is where you find it,” said the designer. “And peace is where you find it. If you find peace in where you are, it’s not [toxic].”

    “I think people should talk less and work more,” he added.

    Meanwhile, HSY also shared that he does not tire of dressing Reema because “she is not only beautiful but she is also very appreciative”.

    HSY, during the interview, also gave a tour of his new studio in Lahore, shared details of his fan moment with Tom Cruise, and opened up on how he deals with controversies when people pass unwarranted statements during his talk shows.

    Just last week, Amna Ilyas was being lauded for urging her colleagues and peers to stop endorsing fairness creams and end colourism. But now, the model-turned-actor has ended up in the line of fire after an old video of hers in which she is fat-shaming former supermodel Aaminah Haq went viral on social media.

    The video which is from 2018 shows Amna and Sadaf Kanwal engage in a game of ‘Guess the Celebrity’ on designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin’s talk show Tonite with HSY. When asked about a certain former Pakistani supermodel, Ilyas mocks her [Aaminah] for gaining weight and then proceeds to hi-five Sadaf.

    Soon after the clip when viral on social media, Haq responded to it saying: “A few of you have tagged me in something a certain model/actor said about me. Truth be told, if body shaming me brought some small shred of joy in her life, then you’re welcome. Unhappy people tend to gravitate towards hate, instead of kindness and compassion.”

    Princess of Wales Lady Diana was loved by millions across the world. She touched hearts wherever she went and inspired an entire generation.

    Renowned fashion designer, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY) recently shared how the late princess inspired him. Sharing a picture of himself with Prince William and Kate Middleton from their recent visit to Pakistan, HSY wrote, “Life is unpredictable and magical. Let me take you back.”

    Throwing it back to the day of Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s wedding, HSY said “I was a little boy who she [his mother] took along with her to stand way back in line to get a glimpse of the procession. She held me up on her shoulders the entire time so I could see beyond the sea of people in front of us. I was lucky to catch a glimpse of the Royal Carriage with the beautiful Queen of Hearts waving to the jubilant crowd as it passed us by.”

    “It was a magical moment. I was captivated. I would think about her and her regal posture, that stunning gown and her elegance and kindness for decades to come,” he said further. “She inspired me like she inspired countless others.”

    Coming back to the present day, HSY shared how honoured he was to have met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

    “I was celebrating my 25 years in fashion, it felt like I had come full circle,” said the designer while talking about his meeting with the royal couple. “This recognition of being invited from a handful from Pakistan to be introduced to them for your contributions in your field. I was overcome with gratitude. The son and daughter-in-law of the very same person who sparked my desire to be who I am were standing right in front of me and acknowledging my work,” he added.

    Meanwhile, HSY is gearing up for his official film debut. The designer will be making an appearance in Muhib Mirza’s Ishrat Made in China with a role that has been specially written for him. According to reports, the film is an action flick which revolves around gang rivalries and that HSY will be playing a negative role in it.

    Turns out, close friend and designer Hassan Shehryar Yasin (HSY) styled Mahira for the big night. Sharing some behind the scenes pictures, HSY explained the concept behind Mahira’s look and praised her for carrying the outfit with utmost elegance and grace.

    “Mahira is an elegant star,” he wrote in the caption, which almost read like a love letter. “That’s her thing. Elegance. She doesn’t have to try too hard, it’s a natural thing for her.”
