Mushtaq Ahmed likens Rizwan’s leadership to Imran Khan

Defending champions of Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans, have gained a lot of praise for their commendable cricket under the leadership of wicket-keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. Former Pakistan cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed has said Rizwan’s leadership qualities are just like former Pakistan captain and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

Talking to Cricket Pakistan in an interview, Sultans’ assistant coach Mushtaq Ahmed addressed their remarkable win-ratio in PSL 7. He said that the credit lies entirely with the Almighty and the players for their efforts.

“One of the most important things when it comes to winning is the leadership quality and Rizwan is a great leader. He keeps everyone in loop and works with the players to execute the game plans,” he said.

When inquired about whether the change in captaincy was the turning point for Sultans, Ahmed said that there are many more factors at play than just the captaincy.

“There are a lot of factors which come into play and you just don’t focus on one element; for the players to trust their captain, the chemistry between the players and the captain. When players respect you as a captain or as a coach, they will automatically give more value to your opinions and will try to carry out the plans,” he explained.

“I remember when I conceded 70-odd runs in Brisbane and Imran bhai came up to me and backed me for trying my level best. I think it is important to back your players as a leader because it gives you the desire to go out there and prove their belief in you. Rizwan is exactly this way and his leadership is a huge positive,” concluded Mushtaq.

The team has won 10 out 11 matches they have played in PSL 7 and qualified for the Final.

  • Abdullah Siddiqui’s explanation of the PSL anthem will leave you in awe

Abdullah Siddiqui’s explanation of the PSL anthem will leave you in awe

Music Composer and Music Producer Abdullah Siddiqui has already made his name that one cannot deny that he has achieved a lot at such a young age. The young music expert has recently broken down the Pakistan Super League (PSL) anthem Agay Dekh for Spotify, giving us a look into his journey of producing the masterpiece.

Abdullah, who is assisting Xulfi (Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan) in the 14th season of Coke Studio, worked on the PSL anthem sung by singers Atif Aslam and Aima Baig.

“When I knew I was going to be doing this anthem, I knew that the first thing I wanted to make sure [of was] it had a dance beat because these anthems normally don’t have dance beats and I love a good club beat. It has more of a dance hall pattern,” the electropop prodigy explained on Spotify’s “How To Sound Like Me” feature.

Siddiqui said he found a trumpet loop that sounded “instantly super catchy” so he added that to the mix. “Then I decided that it needed a lot of crowd sounds so there are all these samples of crowds clapping and chanting, it’s like the ambiance of a stadium. When you put all of that together, it kind of feels like the foundation for the song.”

He mentioned another instrument that played a big part in the music. “There are also these very big cinematic drums.” He said they also had “vocals that are very tightly treated, like very crisp pop vocals”. “There are some synths happening and I kept building and building just to add more intensity because I felt like this song needed to be super intense and upbeat.”

Agay Dekh was released on January 24 and like its predecessors, received mixed reactions.

Siddiqui first gained national fame with his Nescafé Basement original Resistance, and later his super hit Kingdom for Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 6 last year. The song was Zalmi’s official anthem.

The singer-songwriter has three albums in his kitty — Heterotopia, Metannoya and Dead Beat Poets, and was also featured on US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s Spotify playlist called ‘Muslim Vibes’, along with Shamoon Ismail. He has also been featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 Asia list.

‘Result Allah ki taraf se ata hai’: Rizwan has a message for fans ahead of Qualifier match

Pakistan’s wicket-keeper-batter and captain of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans has requested his fans to remember the team in their prayers as they are set to face Lahore Qalandars in the Qualifier match of PSL on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Multan’s official social media page shared a video of Rizwan in which he said: “I have a request to all the fans of Multan Sultans to remember us in their prayers. Our team and management are playing with unity and rest everyone knows that the result is from Allah. As far as your prayers are with us, Insha Allah, good results will come.”

Rizwan-led Sultans look unstoppable in the tournament. They have won nine out of 10 matches and finished the league stage on the top with 18 points, the most ever by any team in the league stage of the tournament.

The side is, however, likely to miss the services of Tim David today after he tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Qalandars have won six out of 10 matches and finished on the second spot with 12 points, ahead of Peshawar Zalmi based on the net run rate.

Both Sultans and Qalandars have faced each other twice in the tournament’s league stage with Multan winning at National Stadium Karachi and Qalandars winning the Lahore leg match, the only game that Sultans have lost in the league stage.

Multan Sultans’ key batter Tim David tests positive for Covid-19

Multan Sultans’ key player Tim David has tested positive for Covid-19, reported Geo News.

This can be a major blow to the Sultans who are leading the points table with 18 points in the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Tim has been a key player in the team as the Australian sensational six-hitting machine is leading the chart for most sixes in PSL 2022 so far. He has hit 20 sixes for Sultans.

The 25-year-old had also smacked second joint-fastest 50 of PSL. He scored 50 in the 13th match of the tournament against Peshawar Zalmi.

The report said that the player’s test returned positive during routine PCR testing. The team management, however, has neither confirmed nor denied the news.

It is pertinent to mention here that it was reported that Peshawar Zalmi players Ben Cutting, Usman Qadir, and Sohail Khan had also tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

Multan is set to play Qualifier 1 with Lahore Qalandars today (Wednesday) at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Whoever wins the match today will directly qualify for the Final, scheduled to be played on February 27 at the same venue.

VIDEO: Haris Rauf hugs teammate Kamran Ghulam after slapping him in PSL match

During the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches, Lahore Qalandars’ pacer Haris Rauf slapped his teammate Kamran Ghulam after he dropped a catch on his bowl. Video of the incident went viral in minutes but the speedster later hugged Ghulam during the match against Peshawar Zalmi in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

It happened when Ghulam dropped Hazratullah Zazai at Haris Rauf’s full delivery on the leg side. However, Fawad Ahmed took a good catch to send Mohammad Haris back. While celebrating, Ghulam went towards Rauf for a hi-five and that was when the latter slapped him in frustration.

    He, however, hugged him later.

Lahore Qalandars’ official social media account also posted a video of the two players hugging and having fun with each other.

Peshawar Zalmi won in the Super Over after the teams were tied on 158 runs. Shaheen Afridi’s unbeaten 39 off 20 deliveries, which included a last-ball six, had earlier helped Qalandars tie the game.

A report in Cricket Pakistan also said that, “Although no serious action was taken, Haris Rauf was let go after being given a warning.” Rauf finished the match with figures of 1/36 from his four overs.

He scored 39 runs off 20 balls in his prolific inning.

Despite the brilliant batting display from Shaheen, Peshawar Zalmi won the game in the Super Over. Wahab Riaz, giving away only five runs in the Super Over, paved the way for his teams’ victory, and the veteran Shoaib Malik finished the job with two fours of the first two balls of Shaheen’s Super Over.

Both Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi have qualified for the playoffs of PSL 7, along with Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.

  • PCB, Quetta Gladiators deny Faulkner’s ‘baseless allegations’

PCB, Quetta Gladiators deny Faulkner’s ‘baseless allegations’

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Quetta Gladiators have issued the following statement after James Faulkner made “baseless allegations” of non-payment and mistreatment during the Pakistan Super League(PSL) 2022.

PCB’s statement says, “The PCB and Quetta Gladiators are disappointed and dismayed with the reprehensible behavior of James Faulkner, who was also part of the Abu Dhabi-leg of the HBL Pakistan Super League in 2021, and, along with all participants, has always been treated with utmost respect.”

“In the seven years of the Pakistan Super League, no player has ever complained about the nonfulfillment of the PCB’s contractual obligations,” it added.

“Instead, all players have only praised and appreciated the efforts of the PCB to make their stay, appearance and participation as comfortable as practically possible. This is evident that from the fact that most of these cricketers have continued to be part of the PCB’s marquee event since 2016 and have helped the PCB to make the HBL PSL a strong and formidable brand as it stands today.”

“Without going into the history of James Faulkner’s misconduct over the past many years that has also resulted in his fallout with other teams, below is a brief summary of some of the undisputed facts:

    • In December 2021, James Faulkner’s agent confirmed the United Kingdom bank details to which his fee payments should be transferred. This was noted for action.

    • In January 2022, for reasons best known to Faulkner, his agent sent revised banking details of his onshore account in Australia. However, the contracted 70 per cent of Faulkner’s fee payment was transferred to his offshore UK bank account. The receipt of this payment was acknowledged by Faulkner.

    • Accordingly, his payments as per his contract are fully up to date.

    • The remaining 30 per cent of his contractual payment only becomes due 40 days after the completion of the Pakistan Super League 2022, which now remains a matter to be reviewed in line with his contract.

    • In spite of the money being transferred and received in his account, Faulkner continued to insist that a second duplicate payment of the same amount be made to his account in Australia. This meant Faulkner would have been paid twice.

    • He further threatened and refused to participate in his side’s match against Multan Sultans on Friday afternoon until his money demands were met.

    • The PCB, as a responsible organisation, engaged with Faulkner early Friday afternoon in an attempt to reason with him. Despite his reprehensible and insulting behaviour during the conversation, Faulkner was assured that all his grievances would be addressed. He refused to reconsider his decision to take the field in a crucial match for his side, let his team down and demanded that his travel arrangements be immediately made.

    • During this time, the PCB was also in constant contact with his agent, who was regretful and apologetic.

    • Prior to his departure on Saturday morning, Faulkner caused deliberate damage to the hotel property and as a result had to pay damages to the hotel management. The PCB later received reports and complaints from the immigration authorities that Faulkner had acted inappropriately and abusively at the airport.

“In wake of the above, and taking serious note of James Faulkner’s gross misconduct that was an attempt to bring the PCB, Pakistan cricket and the HBL Pakistan Super League into disrepute, it has been unanimously agreed by the PCB and the franchises that James Faulkner will not be drafted in future HBL Pakistan Super League events.”
