    The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that there is a high chance of Eidul Adha 2024 to be observed on June 17, Monday.

    The PMD’s Climate Data Processing Centre has predicted that the crescent moon for Zul Hajj will be born on June 6 at 5:38 PM, reports Samaa News.

    Despite the forecasts, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision regarding the moon sighting in the country.

    Holiday schedule

    The official 2024 holiday calendar has earmarked the Eid ul Azha holidays from June 17 to 19.

    However, considering the tendency of most government offices to remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, the holiday period will effectively commence on June 15.

    A formal notification detailing the revised holidays will be issued by the federal government in the days leading up to Eid ul Azha.

    There has been an increase in the number of road accidents with 43 lives lost in Punjab during Eid holidays.

    Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department in Punjab has thus called upon all stakeholders, including parents, educators, and civil society members, to raise awareness among their loved ones about reducing motorcycle speed and staying in the left-most lane to prevent such accidents and the loss of lives.

    He commended the rescuers who worked through their Eid holidays to efficiently provide emergency services to the people of Punjab, noting their exceptional commitment and dedication to duty during the festive period as well as the pivotal role played by these rescuers in saving lives and offering timely assistance to those in need.

    During a virtual meeting with all Divisional and District Emergency Officers, Dr. Rizwan stressed the importance of change in behaviour to encourage safety and prevent emergencies. He also emphasised the need for collaboration between public and rescue services to save lives and enhance safety standards.

    It has been decided to keep all educational institutions closed from February 6 to 9 in Sindh.

    According to Sindh Education Department, all private and commercial schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed from February 6 to 9 due to general elections in the country.

    The Education Department said that February 5 has already been announced as Kashmir Day holiday in the province.

    A vacation summary has been sent to the Chief Minister House, while the notification will be issued after approval.

    On Wednesday, the Punjab Cabinet decided to keep all schools, colleges and universities closed from February 6 to 9 as general elections, scheduled for February 8, approach.

    There will be eight holidays in educational institutions during general elections across the country, Geo reported.

    According to the report, the polling for the general elections across the country will be held on February 8, 2024, and on this occasion, the educational institutions will be closed for eight days.

    The eight-day holiday spans from February 4-10. February 4 is a Sunday, February 5 is Kashmir Day, and February 6 to 10 will be a general election holidays.

    11th February will be a Sunday and thus schools colleges and universities will open on 12th February after eight holidays.

    The caretaker government of Punjab has extended winter holidays for junior students till Grade One.

    Students of all classes till Grade One will commence school on January 16, whereas middle school students and seniors are advised to stay indoors.

    The caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has also cancelled morning assembly sessions till January 31.

    The announcement came as the CM was visiting Children’s Hospital, Lahore. He took notice of about three dozen deaths of children due to pneumonia in the province, the chief minister on Wednesday also decided to postpone all examinations slated to be held during this month.

    Announcing the holiday extension CM added, schools up to class 1 will be shut down across Punjab.

    Mohsin Naqvi summoned an emergency meeting at Children’s Hospital in Lahore on Wednesday in this regard, saying 8 out of every 10 children are suffering from pneumonia. 36 kids have died due to this in Punjab.

    Most of the deceased children are babies younger than six months, he added.

    Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of children using masks and washing hands in Lahore. This is made mandatory in schools.

    He also recommends the use of warm clothes amid the surge in cases of viral Pneumonia, especially in children, as highlighted by health experts in Lahore.

    However, considering the ongoing winter wave, schools will start at 9:30 am from January 10 to 22nd. After the 22nd, it is expected that they will resume their regular school timings.

    The caretaker government of Sindh on Tuesday announced a public holiday on December 27 (tomorrow) on account of the 16th death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

    Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar’s spokesperson made the announcement, declaring a public holiday across the province tomorrow.

    “The Government of Sindh has been pleased to declare 27th December 2023 (Wednesday) as a Public Holiday throughout the Province of Sindh on the occasion of Shahadat of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed for all offices, Autonomous, Semi-Autonomous Bodies, Corporations and Local Councils under the Administrative control of Government of Sindh, except the essential services,” said the notification issued today.

    The federal government has announced the schedule for winter vacations for educational institutes functioning under the administration.

    Vacations in federal educational institutes will officially commence from December 25 to December 29. However, Federal Directorate of Education officials said that the institutes will close on December 22, which falls on Friday, and reopen on January 1, 2024, reports Geo.

    In Sindh, holidays will start on December 22 and end on December 31.

    In Punjab, vacations will start on December 18, 2023, in public and private schools across the province and continue till January 1, 2024.

    Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced on X (former Twitter) that Punjab schools will have a 15-day long winter break, as per the winter vacation schedule.

    Late on Thursday night, Naqvi posted that vacations will start on December 18, 2023, in public and private schools across the province and continue till January 1, 2024.

    “We held a meeting with experts and govt officials today addressing the SMOG challenge in Punjab. With an improved Air Quality Index (AQI), no restrictions are planned for the upcoming weekend. Additionally, winter vacations for children will commence from Dec 18, 2023 to Jan 1, 2024,” the CM wrote on his official handle of Twitter.

    Earlier in the week, Sindh announced winter vacations from December 22 till December 31.

    Punjab Minister for School Education Murad Raas has criticised the parents, students and teachers who are requesting an extension in school winter holidays.

    “Why are parents/teachers/students wanting more winter holidays? We used to go to school in the same weather and never complained. What is wrong with this generation – no one wants to do anything! Especially study,” the minister wrote in a tweet.

    The School Education Department held a meeting on Thursday in which the participants decided to not extend winter vacations. Education officials indicated that it would not be advantageous to extend the holidays because of upcoming examination schedules and declared that the schools will reopen on January 9.
    Lahore and parts of central Punjab are in the grip of intense smog, with reduced visibility in the early hours of the morning.
