‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ enters the ‘200 crore club’, smashes previous records

The Legend of Maula Jatt headlined by Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Mahira Khan is by far the most expensive film to come out of Pakistan. It is unquestionably the biggest Pakistani release ever internationally.

The film opened to packed houses on October 13th and earned record-breaking figures on day one despite the fact that it is not currently playing in every theater in the country.

Bilal Lashari’s directorial has become the first film in Pakistan’s history to earn 100 crore domestically. This achievement was announced by the makers on social media handles.

    Breakdown

It earned 4.4 crores locally and 4.9 crores internationally on its opening day, making it a total of 9.3 crores.

    Four-day Weekend Collections

In its extended weekend, the film collected over 50 crores globally.

According to a recent report in Deadline, this action-fantasy movie has broken box-office records within its opening weekend. So far, The Legend of Maula Jatt has collected over half a million dollars. Across 79 locations in the UK, the film has earned $355,000, making it trend at no. 9 on the charts. These figures surpass the lifetime receipts of every Pakistani movie and have set new records. The Legend of Maula Jatt is poised to set additional records now that the second weekend has begun.

    Second Weekend

Its second-weekend collections gave a new hope to the industry. The magnum-opus crossed the unprecedented 100 crore mark post its second-weekend collections. This made it the first-ever Pakistani feature film to achieve this target.

    200 Crore Club

TLOMJ‘s winning streak continues as the magnum opus becomes Pakistan’s first offering to hit the PKR 200 crore mark, globally.

Producer Ammara Hikmat shared the update on her Instagram handle.

Earlier this month, the official Instagram account of TLOMJ shared that the Bilal Lashari directorial has beaten the Laal Singh Chaddha and South Indian blockbuster RRR’s box office collection in Britain.

‘Depression, panic attacks, miscarriages’: Nadia Afghan opens her heart out after backlash on viral statement

Veteran actor Nadia Afgan took to her Instagram handle to respond to the backlash that she has been getting for her recent statement on Ahsan Khan’s show. The Suno Chanda star said on the show that she and her husband haven’t had children by choice as the world is not a safe place.

“I had decided years ago that I will never ever talk about this publicly because it was just too painful. It still is. But this is needed. It’s needed because of the needless masala our influencers like to share, but more because I am shocked at how women have reacted to my personal statement on [the Ahsan Khan] show.”

“I was a firm believer that all women, whether they have children or not, would know and understand how private a matter this is. I have always believed that all women understand how painful this journey can be, but the past few days have made me see how wrong I’ve been.”

“Ironically, it’s been women – their hurtful comments, cruel judgements, harsh messages, and despicable lack of compassion, that made me change my decision and talk about it publicly. [Jawed] and I have been married for 15 years. Both of us adore children – we really wanted to have our own one day. But Allah had other plans – and like everything else in life, we submitted to His will.”

“I have had two miscarriages, I have gotten three failed IUIs done. I have battled depression after losing two unborn children. I have struggled with panic attacks, fearing another miscarriage. I have gained tonnes of weight because of hormonal issues. We were all set for an IVF. But I just couldn’t go ahead with it. I just couldn’t bear the agony of that single line on the pregnancy test – after going through another emotionally and physically draining procedure.”

“My husband, Jodi, has been exceptionally understanding and supportive in my journey. He saw what I went through, understood how I felt, and we made this decision, together. For him, my comfort and health, both physical and mental, took precedence over everything.”

“Contrary to this, the women in my life, close to me and strangers alike, have shown a shocking lack of empathy – all these years and especially the last few days. I have relived my years of loss all over again since Saturday.”, she concluded.

  • ‘Giranay ki koshish? Har ghar se Imran Khan niklega’: Aiman, Farhan and Zara are team PTI

‘Giranay ki koshish? Har ghar se Imran Khan niklega’: Aiman, Farhan and Zara are team PTI

After the opposition submitted the no-trust motion against the PM on March 8, many of the premier’s celebrity supporters professed their loyalty towards him.

You can get exclusive details in our new show, Maslay Aur Masala:

While most took to Instagram and Twitter to share their views, others like actors Haroon Shahid and Ahmed Ali Butt showed their support on-ground at Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) mega rally that was held in Islamabad on March 27.

Actor Adnan Siddiqui took to Twitter to call Khan a “mass leader”, saying that people’s love for him was proof of this. He also requested those playing “dirty politics” to let Khan complete his term before writing him off.

Actor Mahira Khan tweeted in favour of the present PM.

Actor Humayun Saeed shared he has been a fan of Khan since his cricketing days and he still “admires his leadership”. Like Siddiqui, Saeed too wants Khan to have the chance to complete his tenure.

“He made one call and they came running and this is not even 1 per cent of the turn out. You cannot dispute the trust, love and faith this nation has for Imran Khan,” wrote pop singer Annie Khalid.

Actor Saba Qamar also tweeted in support of PM Imran and said that “this is not about one person, this is about Pakistan”.

Lollywood star Shaan Shahid shared a throwback photo with the premier and wrote, “Pakistan has spoken. [T]hey want only one leader to lead them to a brighter future of Pakistan,” referencing those who attended the Islamabad rally in support of Khan.

Earlier Aiman shared photo of the PM on Instagram and wrote “we stand with you” with the hashtag “say no to corruption”.

Actor Muneeb Butt reshared his wife Aiman’s post on Instagram.

Actor and host Samina Peerzada also showed support for the PM and wrote, “Kuch bhi na kaha aur keh bhi gaye,” referencing Madam Noor Jehan’s song of the same title.

‘Because of this woman, karma is a bitch’: Faysal Qureshi’s daughter Hanish exposes Sana Javed

Actor Faysal Qureshi’s daughter Hanish took to her Instagram stories to share her experience with actress Sana Javed amidst the on-going controversy.

Hanish Qureshi extended support to stylist Wajid Khan while sharing her own problematic experience with Sana Javed.

The young stylist said that the Khaani star is one of the reason why her career got jeopardise.

Apparently Sana got her replaced from a project which was disturbing for Hanish.

Hanish concluded by saying, “Karma is a bitch”.

Makeup artist Wajid Khan shares his working experience with Sana Javed

Earlier stylist Wajid Khan recently came forward and detailed his harrowing experience with the Romeo Weds Heer actress. Wajid Khan is a well-known celebrity hair and makeup artist who is noted for his impeccable work and humble demeanour. He turned to his ‘gramme and wrote a lengthy comment about his meeting with Sana.

He wrote in his post, “I am not too surprised to hear about Sana Javed as this has been a recurring issue for evenyone who has worked with her. My brand was signed as the makeup artist for a project and when I was doing her make-up, I suggested her some ideas to enhance her look on screen as I have worked with big screen actresses in Pakistan, US and in India. She had the audacity to go to Producers and said that “wajid toh meri buraiyya kar raha hai and I am not comfortable working with him’. So I was asked to step back from the project because she made them do so.”

“Trust me, I have worked with much bigger names at IIFA and Miss Universe, but I have not come across anyone who is so toxic and unprofessional as her. She should focus more on her acting rather than playing games with people. We are all artists and as important as anyone else on the set. If she doesn’t know how to respect the fellow artists, then industry should not work with such shallow people who only bring defame to a project,” he continued.

  • ‘Parey Hut Love’ is all about aesthetics

‘Parey Hut Love’ is all about aesthetics

Of all the films releasing this Eid, Parey Hut Love was probably the most hyped. Everything about the film – cast, set, costumes, locations – was larger than life and the cast of the film promoted it to death. So much so that even if you weren’t interested in the film, you’d still want to see what it is all about.

Naturally, that raises expectations and that’s when things begin to go down. I entered the cinema excited and left the cinema deflated because the film did not match up to my expectations and what I had been promised.

To begin with, there was no story and half an hour into the film, I had figured out the plot. Parey Hut Love is the story of Sheheryar (Munawar), a commitment-phobic struggling actor who meets Saniya (Maya Ali) at a family wedding. The two spend time together and fall in love. Saniya, who lives in Turkey heads back with the promise that the two will keep in touch. However, Sheheryar’s phone is stolen and Saniya thinks that he has ditched her and is heartbroken. The rest of the film follows the duo as they find their way back to each other despite almost getting hitched to other people.

The entire film was just lots of beautiful wedding scenes put together with many of the scenes inspired by Bollywood movies. You will find references from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Hum Tum and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and even from the Hollywood film Dear Rosie. I personally felt the plot was heavily borrowed from Dear Rosie and Hum Tum.

There was no flow of scenes and some of them, like Mahira’s entry, were so abrupt that it took you a while to put things together and figure out what was going on. It’s like the makers forgot that they had a story to tell.

Parey Hut Love belonged to Sheheryar and Sheheryar only. His character was the only one which was given attention and developed properly while the rest of the movie was rushed. Sheheryar and Saniya’s love story was poorly written. Maya barely had any dialogues and she was a little more than a showpiece.

Zara Noor Abbas and Ahmed Ali Butt were wasted in the film and their roles terribly written. Zara is a talented actor and her comic timing is brilliant which is why I honestly felt upset with the way she was presented. I wish she had more screentime and her character had been more developed because she lit up the screen every time she came on. Also, why wasn’t her styling given the same amount of importance as Maya? While Maya breezed through the film in one gorgeous outfit after another, Zara’s outfits and looks were lazily done. The makeup was also a letdown – the lip colours too light and the eyes heavily done. Maya is a stunning actor and she stole the screen in Teefa in Trouble. In Parey Hut Love not so much.

Zara looks out of place in this coral pink outfit

On the flip, the cinematography, especially the ariel shots, locations, costumes, sets were amazing because of which the film was aesthetically very pleasing. The songs were also beautiful. Kudos to Azaan Sami Khan for delivering one stellar track after another and to Nigah Jee for the brilliant choreography. Morey Saiyaan, Ik Pal and Haye Dil Bechara were a treat to watch and frankly the biggest takeaway from the film.

Munawar has grown as an actor and honed his talent. He has also worked on his physique and all his hard work showed in the film. Maya could have done much better. Ahmed, Zara and Hina Dilapazeer gave some of the best moments from the film with their impeccable comedy.

The surface of Parey Hut Love was polished till it sparkled while little to no attention was paid to the core – the inside of the film was hollow.

  • ‘Kahin Deep Jalay’ is terribly typical but full of masala

‘Kahin Deep Jalay’ is terribly typical but full of masala

Neelam Muneer and Imran Ashraf’s Kahin Deep Jalay is halfway through and though the drama is problematic at points and follows the typical nand-bhabi jealousy, it is still a fun, masalaydaar watch and works.

Written by Qaisra Hayat and directed by Saima Waseem, Kahin Deep Jalay is centred on Rida, played by Neelam Muneer, who is the only sister of three brothers. Her brothers and mother, played by Saba Faisal, dot on her and pamper her to no extent. Despite that she is not a spoiled brat. Rida’s brother Fahaam is married to their Khala’s daughter Shamila, played by Nazish Jahangir, who is the main antagonist in the plot. Shamila bhabhi is a materialistic woman and is super jealous of Rida because of the love and attention she receives from her brothers. Let’s just say her middle name is ‘troublemaker’.

On the other hand, we have the humble Zeeshan, played by Imran Ashraf, an ordinary guy from a middle-class background. He sees Rida at her brother’s wedding and falls head over heels in love with her. Eventually Rida and Zeeshan get married and begin their new life together. The latest episode shows the beginning of their new life and sets the grounds for the troubles that are to come.

While the plot is typical, the heavy dose of masala and dramatic dialogues coupled with superb acting make it a fun and entertaining watch. The drama is perfect for those times when you feel like watching something that doesn’t require too much attention or brain cells.

All the lead actors have performed brilliantly and Imran particularly has slipped into his character of a romantic hero with ease. His expressions and the way he shies away everytime he sees Rida are brilliant. Nazish as the spiteful and vengeful Shamila bhabhi is also great – you cannot help but hate her character.

    Fahaam bhai and Shamila bhabi

Meray Paas Tum Ho may be the drama everyone is talking about these days, but Kahin Deep Jalay is not too far behind either – the drama is usually trending at number four or five on Youtube and has a couple of millions views on each episode. If you’re the sort of person who likes their dramas to be extra, slightly Star-plussy (I just made up that word) and full of masala, you’ll definitely enjoy Kahin Deep Jalay.

It airs every Thursday at 8pm on Geo Entertainment.
