Marriage on the cards? Iqra Aziz, Yasir Hussain spotted at Ali Xeeshan’s studio

Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain’s relationship is an open secret. The two may not have officially confirmed their relationship but their Instagram profiles and stories make this fact pretty evident. In fact, the couple was recently on a vacation in Thailand from where they posted daily updates.

Iqra and Yasir were now recently spotted hanging out at designer Ali Xeeshan’s studio and history is proof that all celebrity marriages are subtly announced with spottings at designers studios.

Fans also seem to think the two are getting married.

However, there were some others who commented that the duo is probably getting their wardrobes sorted out for the upcoming awards ceremonies including the Lux Style Awards and Hum Awards.

  • Of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Katrina Kaif: Mehwish Hayat’s new song sparks outrage

Of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Katrina Kaif: Mehwish Hayat’s new song sparks outrage

Saqib Malik’s upcoming film Baaji already had a star-studded cast with the likes of Meera Jee and Osman Khalid Butt, but its glamour quotient increased by several folds after its makers dropped a new song featuring none other than dancing queen Mehwish Hayat.

The song titled Gangster Guriya has Mehwish channel her inner rebel and show off her moves in a couple of glamourous outfits. The vocals of the song have been done by Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan while Osman is the man behind the lyrics and choreography.

In its essence, Gangster Guriya is an item number and that is pretty much enough to flare up Pakistanis, especially given the recent debate around the inclusion of such songs in films. In fact, very recently, Hamza Ali Abbasi, on a talent show schooled a young girl for dancing to an item song. Interestingly, the girl’s performance was on Mehwish’s item song, Billi from Na Maloon Afraad.

Following the release of the song, Pakistanis are calling for Mehwish’s Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to be cancelled.

In case you are blissfully unaware, Mehwish’s Tamgha has been embroiled in controversy ever since it was announced that she will be receiving one earlier this year. However, Mehwish slammed all trolls and critics who said she didn’t deserve it. But Pakistanis don’t leave a chance to drag it in at every opportunity.

Here are some of the censored comments from social media:

Someone even appealed to PM Imran Khan to take notice.

Even the disappointed cricket fan wasn’t spared.

Several others pointed out that Mehwish’s avatar in the song bears a striking resemblance to Katrina Kaif’s from Husn-e-Parcham, Zero.

However, there were others who liked Mehwish’s new avatar and song.

  • Veena Malik finds an unexpected supporter

Veena Malik finds an unexpected supporter

Veena Malik has lately been making the news a lot thanks to her controversial statements on Twitter and endless trolling of Maryam Nawaz.

Earlier this week, Veena engaged in a Twitter spat with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza who slut-shamed her by referring to her controversial magazine photoshoot. Though Sania later deleted her tweet, it wasn’t before Veena was able to screenshot it, share it and call her out for deleting it.

Many supported Veena and called out Sania for her remarks. Later, Veena defended herself saying that the magazine photo shoot she is so often called out for was photoshopped. She even said that she has not been part of the film industry for the past five years and has pleaded to God for forgiveness several times. Among those lauded Veena for opening up and being honest was Aamir Liaquat’s wife, Tuba Aamir.

Tuba tweeted that Veena doesn’t owe answers to anyone and told her to keep going and ignore the negativity before going onto say, “Sinners judging sinners for sinning differently.”

  • Veena Malik trolls Sania Mirza, gets blocked

Veena Malik trolls Sania Mirza, gets blocked

Well well, this is one phadda we didn’t see coming. After endlessly trolling Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Veena Malik turned her attention to bhabhi Sania Mirza. She first called Sania out for the way she is upbringing her son before subtly blaming her for Pakistan’s humiliating defeat against India in the ICC World Cup 2019.

ICYMI, Veena’s tweet referred to the fact that the cricket players were allegedly hanging out at a local restaurant in Manchester and smoking sheesha a few hours before the big match.

    To this Sania first replied:

However, a few minutes later she deleted this tweet and posted:

While most of us thought that this would be the end of the discussion, Veena decided that she had more to say on this.

This clearly did not sit well with Sania who decided to block Veena. And Veena being Veena shared this nugget of information with her followers.

Veena clearly likes to have the last word, so she posted a couple of more tweets on the matter.

She even clarified, once again, that the magazine cover which featured her nude was photoshopped and added that Sania has her own share of controversies.

In the end, did Veena try to hint that Sania might just be an undercover Indian agent? Iss baat ka jawaab toh sirf Veena hee day sakti hain.

  • Zartaj Gul and Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari fight it out on Twitter

Zartaj Gul and Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari fight it out on Twitter

The week has been pretty lit as far as Pakistani politics is concerned with three high-profile arrests, including those of former President Asif Ali Zardari, Altaf Hussain and Hamza Shehbaz, and the 2019-20 budget being presented.

Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari, who often expresses her political thoughts on Twitter, took to the social media to defend her father and in the process, got into a Twitter feud with State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul, who is also no stranger to controversy.

It all started when Gul tweeted a picture of the arrested politicians crying, referring to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, who in his election campaign, had vowed to “make his opponents cry”.

Bakhtawar responded to Gul in a tweet she later deleted. But, Zartaj had already taken a screenshot. She shared the tweet, calling Bakhtawar “disoriented”, “timid” and a “coward” and referred to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari as her “sister”.

Bakhtawar was not to back down and mocked Gul for her accent at the recent speech at the UN-Habitat Assembly.

Zartaj then decided to have the final word.

Later, Zartaj even took a dig at Bilawal when he called the budget “economic suicide.”

  • ‘Love Pakistan,’ says Adnan Sami’s Twitter bio

‘Love Pakistan,’ says Adnan Sami’s Twitter bio

Just a few hours after Turkish hackers took over Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s Twitter, they have now hacked into Adnan Sami’s account.

The hackers have not only uploaded a series of pro-Pakistan tweets, but they have also change the singer’s username and bio, as a result of which the blue verification tick has disappeared. The account’s profile picture has been replaced by a picture of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the same one which was used on Amitabh’s Twitter. Though the tweets have now been deleted, screenshots are forever.

The hackers also shared screenshots of Adnan Sami’s DM on their own Instagram page.

It is interesting to note that a few hours before the incident, the hackers hinted that they will troll Adnan Sami. Sharing a photo of Adnan’s anti-Pakistan tweet, the hackers asked their followers, “What shall we do about this man?” While a lot of social media users asked the Ayyildiz Tim to change Adnan’s name to Major Adnan Sami, they decided to take over his account and post pro-Pakistan stuff.

Late last night, the Ayyildiz Tim hacked in Amitabh Bachchan’s Twitter account and also posted a series of pro-Pakistan tweets while also changing the profile picture to that of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The tweets were later deleted and Bachchan is said to have taken the case to the Mumbai police who are investigating the matter. Funnily, a lot of Twitter users suggested that Adnan Sami was behind the hacking Big B’s account.

  • ‘Chhalawa woh film hai jo samajh na aye’

‘Chhalawa woh film hai jo samajh na aye’

Before I begin, I’d just like to put it out there that I love everything desi and dramatic; Chhalawa promised just that. And on that front, it did deliver but on other fronts, not so much.

Much like all desi rom-coms, Chhalawa is centred around a couple who wants to get married but the girl’s father has other plans in mind for her future. As the couple, along with their friends and siblings, hatch a plan to get together, chaos ensues but eventually, they beat all odds and get married. Nothing original there, but then again, like Mehwish Hayat — in her exclusive interview with The Current — said, people in Pakistan love shaadis and everything about them, so it’s natural that films reflect that. In fact, the best part of the film was without a doubt the Chhalawa title song, which is definitely going to be the shaadi anthem of the year. But don’t forget, you heard it here first!

Moving on, my main concern with the film was the fact that the scenes were inconsistent – there was nothing binding them together. A lot was left to the imagination and though I understand filmmakers have limited time, what they cannot depict through actions, can they not tell through dialogues?

The end result was a bit hotchpotch and it was left up to the viewer to decide what to make of it. The characters were also underdeveloped (for example, we never really found out how Asad Siddiqui ended up being a pir), though the actors made up for that with their brilliant performances. Mehmood Aslam was fitting as the loving but authoritative father as was Aashir Wajahat as the younger brother. Azfar Rehman and Asad Siddiqui were natural in their roles and their chemistry stood out and was thoroughly enjoyable.

I do feel Mehwish did not get enough opportunity to shine but she still managed to make an impression, especially in the second half. She is also probably the only Pakistani heroine who makes her co-star look good. Whether it is Humayun Saeed or Fahad Mustafa or in this case Azfar Rehman, Mehwish ensures that her counterpart brings forward their best self.

The shining star of the film was without a doubt Zara Noor Abbas. From her opening scene (which kind of reminded me of Rani Mukherjee from Bunty and Babli) to the final one, Zara’s performance as Haya is truly praise-worthy. Her dialogue delivery, expressions, body language and dance were natural and on point.

I’d like to add here a special round of applause for the hair, makeup and costume team. Zara and Mehwish looked absolutely stunning in every single scene.

The dialogues of the film were very millennial, current and relatable and made you chuckle at several intervals, so thumbs up to the writers there. The length of the film was just right and I did not feel it dragged at any point except for the item song ‘Chirya’ which was unnecessary and very very uncomfortable. In an age where international filmmakers are moving away from such frivolities, it is disappointing to see our filmmakers objectify women in their films.

Apart from the Chhalawa song, the other scene that stood out was the ending, which was my personal favourite. I’ve seen a lot of filmy marriages happen at odd places, but a nikkah on a bridge in a traffic jam is a new high for me. The last scene was everything I wanted in an Eid entertainer: (over) dramatic, emotional, entertaining and one that put a huge smile on your face, at least mine (no judging).

To truly enjoy Chhalawa, it is best to leave common sense out of the cinema hall and immerse yourself in the colour, masala and beats of the film.

  • Mooroo jokes that he is a child molester

Mooroo jokes that he is a child molester

Mooroo aka Taimoor Salahuddin joked about being a child molester in his latest Instagram story.

The social media influencer, who is currently on a family vacation, posted ‘funny’ videos of himself talking to a spider who was in his room.

Mooroo, as the spider, said that he will crawl in his mouth and lay eggs there. To which Mooroo, as himself, responded, “If you (spider) crawl in my mouth, I will eat you and your children up. Mein tou hun hi child molester (I am a child molester anyway).” The video continued with the spider saying that it will eat up Mooroo’s wife to which he laughed and responded: “You don’t know my wife.”

    WhatsApp-Video-2019-06-01-at-18.56.36-1

While we believe that Mooroo didn’t mean to offend anyone and made the video in good humour, the topic is not one that can be joked about. Child abuse, especially sexual abuse, is a serious matter in our country and cannot be taken lightly.

  • Iman Aly on living with Multiple Sclerosis

Supermodel Iman Ali, on World Multiple Sclerosis Day, has opened up about living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Taking to Instagram, Aly wrote, “Maybe some of you know already that I am living with Multiple Sclerosis. It is a part of my life now and my lifestyle has completely changed. My speech, movements, everything is impacted. But I am fighting on, like all the other patients who are living with this disease.”

She explained that MS affects the nerves in the brain, and the most common symptom is blurred vision and when there is a relapse, blurred vision is also accompanied by dizziness.

She encouraged everyone to show support to those who suffer from the disease and raise awareness on the subject.

Following this, there was a flood of supportive and encouraging comments on Iman’s picture and several users also shared their own personal stories or of their near and dear.

Despite her medical condition, Iman continues to live her life to the fullest. She recently tied the knot and will soon be seen in Tich Button, alongside Farhan Saeed and Feroze Khan.

According to the MS Society, UK, multiple sclerosis is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord as a result of which you experience symptoms like blurred vision and problems with how you move, think and feel. Once diagnosed, MS stays for life, but treatments and specialists can help manage the condition and its symptoms.
