Kit Harington checks into a wellness centre for treatment

Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington is undergoing treatment after the end of the HBO television series in which he starred as the heartthrob Jon Snow.

His representative shared that “Kit has decided to utilise this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.”

The statement did not give details of his issues, but The New York Post’s Page Six column said that the ending of the show hit Harington hard and he checked into the wellness centre where he will be treated for stress, exhaustion and alcohol use.

Page Six added that Harington checked into the clinic several weeks before the medieval fantasy series came to an end on May 19.

Harington, 32, propelled to world stardom with Game of Thrones, in which he played the role of the courageous Snow, whose actions in the final episode were one of the show’s biggest shockers.

Harington, who married his Game of Thrones co-star Rose Leslie in 2018, told Variety earlier this year that he had previously found it hard to deal with the fame and attention the show brought, calling it “terrifying.”

Junoon’s much-awaited World Cup song is here

When it comes to cricket we all are united. 23 years after Junoon gave us Jazba Junoon, the trio is back with a new cricket anthem. While it doesn’t quite match up to the epicness that was Jazba Junoon, Choolay Aasman is also a brilliant melody and echoes Junoon’s signature style giving their die-hard fans a wonderful treat.

The song features people from different walks of life, including minorities, differently-abled persons and members of the transgender community, celebrating their love for cricket and, in a way, being closer to each other than ever. The song finishes with a young man covering up hateful drawings and transforming it into a beautifully painted wall which says  “Laga do Chakka.”

Meanwhile, Coke’s official World Cup song is set to release next week.

The Cricket World Cup 2019 will be held from May 30 to July 14 in the United Kingdom.

Mahira Khan, Shehzad Roy protest against child sexual abuse

Following the case of 10-year-old Farishta, who was raped and murdered, celebrities including Mahira Khan, Shehzad Roy and Zeba Bakhtiyar held a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday to shed light on the matter of child sexual abuse and the urgent need to overcome it. They were joined by cricketer Younis Khan.

Speaking at the press conference, Mahira said that given the outrage after Zainab’s case, abuse cases should have lessened but they haven’t. Sharing some statistics, Mahira said that most cases often go unreported because of the shame attached to them.

“We are ashamed [of sharing such incidences] because, as children, we are not taught which touch is wrong,” Mahira said.

She then called for spreading awareness on the matter by educating children on abuse and allowing them to discuss it and letting go of the shame.

“Please, when these things are not talked about in your homes, don’t hush your children up… because you can’t even think what those children must be experiencing at the time,” she asserted.

Singer-turned-activist Shehzad Roy was more aggressive on the matter. He raised some serious points of concern and questioned: “Why are children not being taught how to protect themselves? Why isn’t our child protection unit working on making this happen? Why is the social welfare department not active? Why are the police not being trained to handle such cases?”

Shehzad explained that the cycle of abuse starts slowly before getting to a point of no return. He emphasised that we should prevent that point from being reached by being more alert and educating the children.

Zeba Bakhtiar speaking on the issue said that most cases are kept under wraps because of the matter of honour. She called for awareness and unity in order to solve this problem. She further went on to say that Pakistan is supposed to be “an Islamic country” but where is Islam?

Meanwhile, after the press conference, a social media user accused Mahira and others of using “rape cases to promote their agenda” and blamed the showbiz industry for the rise in the cases. Here’s what Mahira had to say to him:

  • Transgender activist Kami Sid accused of raping teenager

Transgender activist Kami Sid accused of raping teenager

Transgender activist Kami Sid, whose film, Rani recently screened at the Cannes has been accused of raping a teenager.

The incident came to light when a social media user, Minahil Baloch, asked everyone to boycott those accused of rape “even if they make it to Cannes.” Though Minahil didn’t take anyone’s name, Kami allegedly accused her of defamation. Minahil shared the screenshots of her conversation with Kami and alleged that she was being threatened by the activist and in case anything happens to her Kami would be responsible.

Following Minahil’s allegations, several other social media users also came forward and spoke about the incident which reportedly happened a few years back.

According to the details available, the victim, a young teenage boy who identified himself as a woman, ran away from home in Sukkur and came to Karachi. Since he belonged to the same community as Kami, Kami offered him a home with her. It was then when she and boyfriend subjected the teenager to rape and torture among other things. The matter was initially brushed aside because everyone was “scared” of Kami. However, when the guru of Khwaja siras found out about the incident, she came forward and asked the organisation where Kami was working to fire her else she’ll lodge a protest. Kami was suspended from the organisation but came back after she paid “compensation” and apologised for her actions.

A closed-door inquiry was also held at Women Action Forum Karachi (WAF-Karachi) in the presence of several senior feminists but they’ve remained quiet about the incident.

Unfortunately, the victim passed away a few months back. She was reportedly murdered by her own lover. The case is currently ongoing.

The matter never came to light as Kami allegedly threatened everyone to maintain silence and keep this matter a secret. However, it was still a lesser-known fact because of which Kami was apparently dropped from the Karachi Literary Festival and Lahooti.

Meanwhile, Kami has not publicly spoken about the matter as yet. However, a user shared a screenshot of her conversation with her on the matter.

Shaan suggests solution for country’s economic woes

Shaan, who often voices his political and other opinions on Twitter, recently took to the social media app and appealed to everyone to support the rupee and defend it from “economic attacks.”

He asked his fans and followers to buy back the rupee “no matter how little or how big” and play their role in helping the falling economy.

Shaan later went onto share that he exchanged his $5000 for rupees.

Needless to say, Shaan’s suggestion was trolled by many.

However, that did not deter Shaan, who further clarified his suggestion, telling the trolls to “retain the currency and buy Pakistani products with them.” In case you still didn’t get it, Shaan is basically asking people not to hoard dollars.

On Tuesday, the US Dollar reached an all-time high of Rs. 153.50 in the interbank market. What do you think of Shaan’s suggestion?

  • Sanam Saeed continues to get praises from across the border

Sanam Saeed continues to get praises from across the border

Tensions may be high between India and Pakistan in the political arena, but that doesn’t stop our artists from getting praises and attention from across the border.

A few weeks back, Alia Bhatt shared how she took inspiration from Sanam Saeed’s character in the hit drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai to prepare for her role in Kalank. Now days after Cake released on Netflix, Sacred Games actor Kubbra Sait took to Twitter to applaud the makers and cast of the film. This led to a friendly exchange between the two actors who both showered praises on each other.

Cake’s director, Asim Abbasi, also thanked Kubbra and praised her performance in Sacred Games.

We have to agree with Sanam here and thank Netflix for letting this cross border exchange to flourish.

In a similar instance, it appears that we’re not the only ones missing Mahira Khan on the Cannes Red Carpet. Sonam Kapoor, who is currently attending the festival is missing her too. How cute is their exchange?

  • ‘Game of Thrones’: The curious case of the coffee cup and a water bottle

‘Game of Thrones’: The curious case of the coffee cup and a water bottle

NO SPOILERS AHEAD. SAFE TO READ.

After eight epic years, 47 Emmys and two dead dragons, Game of Thrones has said an emotional goodbye to devotees worldwide of one of the most popular shows in television history.

However, the creators of the series haven’t exactly been the most careful while producing the finale with two major bloopers outraging fans.

The first one was when a coffee cup made an unfortunate appearance in season eight episode four of the fantasy series, seriously upsetting fans. HBO said that it was a mistake and edited out the coffee cup for later broadcasts and streaming versions of the episode but that did not stop viewers from calling the producers “lazy.”

Two weeks later, in the season and series finale, fans noticed yet another blooper: a plastic bottle. The bottle, hidden behind Samwell Tarly’s boot, was spotted in a crucial scene in the show’s finale, causing the show more embarrassment. It has already received plenty of criticism in its final season, with over a million fans petitioning for its last six episodes to be remade.

Not only that, but some eagle-eyed viewers also noticed a second water bottle next to Ser Davos as well.

Though the final season of the fantasy drama broke records in terms of viewership, it received mixed reviews from critics and fans. Some viewers declared it “a travesty,” while others called it “satisfying”.

  • Who did Lena Headey refuse to appear with in ‘Game of Thrones’?

Who did Lena Headey refuse to appear with in ‘Game of Thrones’?

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, better known as Cersei Lannister, reportedly refused to appear on-screen with co-star Jerome Flynn after a terrible real-life breakup.

According to Page Six, Headey requested the show’s makers to ensure that she and Flynn wouldn’t have to be in the same room together.

The report further revealed that Lena “appears to have a genuine hate towards him [Flynn].”

However, the two kept their bitter feelings about each other under wraps on the sets for the past eight years and have never appeared in a scene together. But that did not stop things from getting awkward sometimes.

The actress dated Flynn, who plays Bronn, before the show first aired in 2011.

  • Does Suno Chanda 2 live up to its hype?

Does Suno Chanda 2 live up to its hype?

Last Ramazan, Suno Chanda hit our TV screens like a breath of fresh air. As someone who avidly watches Pakistani dramas, the drama serial with its wildly relatable characters and storyline had me and pretty much everyone around me hooked. It was the perfect post-iftar fix and something you could watch with your entire family.

Following the phenomenal success, Hum TV announced that the drama would return for a second season and fans waited with bated breaths to catch the chaos.

The drama began on the first day of Ramazan and till now 11 episodes have aired. If I’m really honest, the first six were borderline boring. It picked up in the eighth and ninth episode, only to go down again in the tenth.

The second season picks up from where it left in the last season i.e. at Arsal and Jiya’s wedding. The bickering and larai jhagra between the two continues, making you wonder why they’re even together in the first place. The writers take their sweet time to introduce the new characters slowing down the pace of the season. Sadly, the new characters, fail to impress and are more annoying than funny. Add to that lots of overacting and you ask yourself why you’re even tuning into it every night.

But before we go into why I end up watching the drama every single night, let’s just first get over the bits of the show I found problematic. First of all, the fact that Jiya’s aspirations and dreams were of no importance to her family now that she is married scream internalised misogyny. But as the drama progressed, I realised that the whole issue was created because that is usually what happens in most desi households. That aside, Arsal is turning out to be a suffocating husband who wants to dictate his wife. The way he gets upset at every small thing or keeps asking Jiya to refer to him as aap makes him nothing more than a spoiled brat.

Another point of concern was Jalal Phuppa who ends up having eyes for every new female character that comes. Last season it was Billo and this season its Pari. Either the writers should establish him as a nuisance tharki or stop weaving in this narrative every time. The other men of the family are also shown swooning over other ladies, even in front of their wives, adding a lot of cringe to the show. Always better to avoid such crass humour.

Next up, the new characters, Mithu and Pari are annoying. I understand they are supposed to be people from small towns, but Mithu needs to grow up and stop asking his mother every time he wants to do something. Most people might find his innocence or naivety cute but to me, it’s plain annoying.

But despite all the drawbacks, the show has its moments; some of which have you chuckling. The biggest pull has to be Shahana aka Shanno. Her dialogues, comic timing and body language is impeccable and I do wish she was given more screentime. In fact, I would say she is probably the only reason why this ship hasn’t sunk yet. Shanno’s relationship with her daughter-in-law is also noteworthy. She supports Jiya’s ambitions and stands by her when her son tries to bully his wife.

Apart from that, some cutesy moments between Arsal and Jiya make you smile as does when the family gets together to solve a crisis. Nazakat and Jamshed’s characters are entertaining as always and Farhan Ali Agha and Sohail Sameer are natural in their roles. Sherry, Kinza and DJ are missing from most scenes and their absence is duly felt. Hoping to see more of them in the upcoming episodes.

However, what really sells the drama is the fact that after a long day of fasting and work, Suno Chanda 2 gives us the mindless, comic relief we all want. The show may have its flaws but in the sea of dramas, which are heavily dramatised and centred around unrequited love, this one is a refreshing watch.

  • Celebrity blunders

    Celebrity blunders

The past month has seen a surprising number of irresponsible acts and statements by major celebrities in Pakistan. Though one can brush them off saying that’s it okay because celebs are also human, but the fact is that they are followed by thousands of people across the country who look up to them and follow what they say. Which is why they need to be careful in what they say and do.

Here’s taking a look back at some major blunders made by celebrities in just the past month.

    Hira Mani

In her appearance on Jeeto Pakistan, Hira Mani said that she believes that men are smarter than women and that a woman can sometimes make bad decisions. To this Fahad Mustafa, who hosts the show, said that’s not true and that his wife has always made the best decisions. He added, “Our country’s women are smarter than men.”

    Ali Zafar

In his interview with Mubashir Lucman, Ali Zafar said that he has hung out with some of Bollywood’s most beautiful women, including Katrina Kaif and Taapsee Panu, so if he had a history they would also have an issue with him, which they don’t.

    Yasir Hussain

Yasir made not one but two major blunders. A few weeks back, Yasir cracked insensitive jokes about transgenders when he revealed that he will be essaying the role of a woman in his upcoming telefilm. He later apologised for his comments and said that he did not mean to degrade anyone.

Yasir also trolled Hania Aamir when she opened up about her struggle with acne and ‘imperfect’ skin. This led to an Instagram feud between the two. But latest pictures from Nomi Ansari’s white aftar suggest that the two have patched things up.

Saboor Aly & Saheefa Jabbar Khattak

Saboor and Saheefa came under fire after Saboor posted a story on Instagram in which she appears to be making fun of the window cleaner. The actors later apologised for their video and said that the person in the video was their friend and they were cracking an “inside joke”.

    Samina Peerzada

In her interview with Affan Waheed, Samina implied that friends and family can replace the need for a shrink. Her comments are problematic because mental illness is serious and requires proper medical assistance.
