    Fact Check: No hospital renamed in Maryam Nawaz’s honour, Punjab government clarifies

    Social media was full of speculations after an alleged notification from the Punjab Health Department went viral, with many claiming that the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore had been renamed the “Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Lahore.”

    Multiple accounts on X (previously Twitter) posted viral tweets with the notification and severely criticised the Punjab government for changing the name of the under-construction project.

    Most of the accounts that were spreading fake news were handled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.

    According to the viral notification, the name of the under-construction building of Jinnah Institute of Cardiology will be changed to honour Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, but later on, the Punjab government clarified that the issued notification was not real.

    In a rapid move, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bohhari clarified in a post on X that the notification was fake and there were no intentions to change the name of the under-construction building.

    Bokhari further confirmed that no hospital’s name was being changed.

    A father has killed his own daughter and her alleged friend in Sindh in the name of honour.

    The police in Jamshoro has arrested two suspects in connection with the incident and a heavy contingent of forces have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

    In 2022, a report stated that at least 217 people, including 152 women, have been killed in so-called honour-related crimes across Sindh.

    Hundreds of women are killed each year in Pakistan by family members over perceived loss of “honour”.

    Many human rights activists have raised alarms over the issue and while numerous laws have been passed to prevent honour killing, the numbers continue to get higher which each passing year.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan destroyed the respect that Pakistan had.

    Talking about the economic situation of Pakistan, PM Shehbaz said that when he took over as the premier of Pakistan, the country was on the brink of default.

    He said that the ruling coalition saved Pakistan from default with the help of friendly countries.

    The Premier said that the government will not tolerate rise in terrorist attacks and vowed to crush it by developing liaison between government and law enforcement agencies (LEAs).

    He assured the people of Pakistan that the coalition government will rescue them from economic quagmire.

    PM Shehbaz also accused Imran Khan’s government of neglecting the western route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

  • RFAK dedicates Lifetime Achievement Award to Pakistani citizens

    The Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) has honoured Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (RFAK) with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding and great services to the field of entertainment. In addition to that, he was also given an Honourary Lifetime Membership, the Associated Press of Pakistan has reported.

    Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Sardar Shah, while speaking at the occasion he said that it was an honour for them to have such an esteemed artist of the present era among them. He further said that the two renowned voices of the sub-continent – Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen – had emerged because of their own talents adding that a concert would be held in honour of these both artistes in the metropolis.

    He continued: “We are proud to present the lifetime achievement award and lifetime membership of Arts Council to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in recognition of his massive achievements.”

    Later, RFAK also planted a tree at the occasion.

    Rahat expressed his joy over receiving the award and dedicated the award to Pakistani citizens.

    In 2019, received Wembley Arena Award. He is the first Asian singer to have received the award.
