‘I think Humsafar was initially offered to me’: Shan Shahid

Imagine Humsafar without Fawad Khan. Well, it turns out that the role of Ashar was initially offered to none other than Shaan Shahid.

Recently, Shaan appeared as a guest on Coffee with Samaa, hosted by Naeem Hanif and Bushra Khan.

The host asked, “Have you ever thought about working on the small screen or doing a major serial role in the future?”

Shaan Shahid replied, “All these channels make dramas… I think Humsafar was initially offered to me, but at that time, I was very busy. I couldn’t do it.”

Talking about the character he said:

“The role Fawad played. I didn’t take it because I had already worked with Fawad before in Khuda Ke Liye. At that time, I had just come into the industry, and there was a band called EP. He used to make shows like Jutt and Bond. Then I met Shoiab Mansoor sahib on the set. Anyway, I felt that there is still a lot to be done in this field. We have already divided ourselves. If we don’t unite our strength and start listening to each other, it will become difficult to understand one another.” Shahid added.

The War actor also expressed his views on the importance of bringing Pakistani content to digital platforms.

He stated, “I believe that right now, although there are many dramas being produced on television. I would definitely do a good play if something truly inspirational comes along. So far, I haven’t come across anything that inspires me to excel. In fact, I’m surprised that we still don’t have our own OTT platforms.”

Shaan emphasized the need for better scripts that explore untold stories in our society, saying, “I think that right now, the scripts we need are those that can explore the hidden stories in our society. A war has many tales, there are love stories too. It’s all about searching and finding what’s hidden in a particular area.”

  • ‘Humsafar’ stage play in India set to foster Indo-Pak harmony

‘Humsafar’ stage play in India set to foster Indo-Pak harmony

An Indian stage production has reportedly adapted the popular Pakistani drama ‘Humsafar’ as part of an initiative to promote peace between India and Pakistan. Theater and film actor Imran Zahid confirmed the news to the Indian media.

In parallel, the Bombay High Court has rejected a petition to ban Indian nationals, corporations, and associations from working with Pakistani artists. The court said the move would “disrupt cultural harmony and peace” and advised not to be myopic.

The adaptation of ‘Humsafar’ is significant in light of the All India Cine Workers Association’s (AICWA’s 2019) ban on Pakistani artists after the Pulwama attack. This is not the first time that Pakistani artists have been barred in India; similar instances were reported back in October 2016, when the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association announced a ban on all Pakistani actors, singers, and technicians working in Bollywood films.

Zahid revealed they approached Pakistan’s HUM TV to secure the stage adaptation rights for ‘Humsafar,’ which originally starred Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan.

He further revealed that “conversations are being held with Momina Duraid, the creative head of HUM TV and also the creator of the show.” Both parties have reached an agreement in principle to proceed with the project.

Times Now also reported that according to Zahid, the show will be free of charge with no monetary gain “as part of an initiative to promote Indo-Pak peace following recent decisions by the Indian high court and Supreme Court”.

The final announcement is due shortly, and talks are reportedly being held with Sultana Siddiqui, the founder and president of HUM TV.

The play has not been officially named, nor the location or casting finalised. The revelation surfaced amidst speculation that Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, who starred in ‘Humsafar,’ could appear in some future Bollywood films.

Fawad Khan talks about why Pakistani dramas are winning hearts in India

Pakistan’s TV dramas are well-known for telling powerful and realistic stories. They’re loved not just domestically but across the border in India too.

Fawad Khan, one of the biggest stars in the industry, has a fair idea of why Pakistani dramas are as popular as they are. During an interview with Pinkvilla India, the superstar was asked by the host, “What do you think is the USP of Pakistan dramas that are hitting the right cord over here for the Indian audience?”

Fawad replied, “We Pakistanis have always used drama as a medium to tell our stories, and that’s taught us the art of storytelling. We’ve learned how to weave a narrative, how to develop characters, and how to engage our audience. It’s a craft we’ve honed over the years, and we’re proud of our expertise in this field.”

He continued to explain: “When we give something time, and the audience appreciates it, it means we are doing something right, just like Bollywood does in India.”

The Barzakh actor said, “Indian writers are skilled at presenting their stories in an engaging way through films, owing to their experience in longer narrative formats. This preference for soaps over dramas on television has led to a decline in audience interest compared to previous times.”

Faysal Quraishi reveals that Indian streets empty out for Pakistani dramas

Actor Faysal Quraishi recently appeared on LetsTalk with Sadia Salman. The star talked about how much Indians love Pakistani dramas.
“I was told by a famous Indian choreographer that when Meri Zaat Zara e Benishan and Humsafar were airing, streets in India would shut down. People loved them that much! He shared this with me personally, and I was amazed by the impact our Pakistani dramas had across the border.”

While discussing the credibility of awards in the entertainment industry, Faysal said, “I believe that awards should be judged by industry experts, not by audience votes. Globally, credible awards are given by juries comprising field experts. I’d be proud to receive an award decided by experts, not just based on popularity. Currently, audience-based awards often favor those with massive followings, rather than true talent.”
