    Govt to buy more than 500 hybrid buses for Lahore

    According to Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, 300 hybrid buses would be bought for Lahore in the first phase of the government’s plan to run environment-friendly hybrid buses in the city.

    About 200 new bus stops would be set up to facilitate the citizens, according to the chief minister. The 20th meeting of the Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA), which was presided over by Parvez Elahi, decided to purchase hybrid buses that are environmentally friendly.

    Parvez Elahi informed the participants that a total of 513 hybrid buses would be operating in the city and that the Punjab Masstransit Authority would use private companies to run new hybrid buses.

    The chief minister mandated that seats be set aside in the new buses for women, special individuals with disabilities, and people who are blind or visually impaired, adding that these seats should be positioned close to the bus door. The chief minister gave the go-ahead to build new bus stops in Lahore and added that the routes of the new buses should be planned with women’s educational institutions’ schedules in mind.

    Parvez Elahi criticised the fact that previous attempts at creating a government-level transportation system spectacularly failed due to egregious incompetence in the creation of a long-lasting transportation system in the province.

    The chief minister gave his approval for the Punjab Masstransit Authority to open offices in Dera Gujran and for the authority to conduct auctions. Iftikhar Gondal, Khadija Umar, Shamim Aftab, Muhammad Khan Bhatti’s principal secretary, the secretaries of finance and transportation, along with other members of the Punjab Assembly, attended the meeting.

    At a ceremony in Lahore, Sazgar Engineering formally unveiled the Haval H6, Pakistan’s first locally assembled hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).

    By doing this, the business has significantly surpassed its competitors. This is a huge milestone because not even the top automakers in Pakistan considered releasing a hybrid automobile.

    In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company said, “We are pleased to inform you that the company has successfully assembled/ manufactured locally the first Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) of Pakistan and is being launched under brand ‘Haval’ as of November 17.”

    One of the four brands owned by the Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motors (GWM), “Haval,” reached the Pakistani market through Sazgar in early 2021.

    A 1.5 turbocharged engine in the Haval H6 generates 152 horsepower (HP) and 233 newton metres (Nm) of torque. With that, there is a motor producing 174 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Excellent efficiency, low fuel consumption, high performance, and light weight are the engine’s four standout qualities.

    The Haval H6 Hybrid SUV costs Rs9.75 million, yet the manufacturer charges Rs1.9 million for bookings.

    The next generation of the hybrid hatchback will be revealed at the Los Angeles auto show next week, and these teasers give a glimpse at its styling.

    If the brand-new Toyota teaser images are any indication, the Prius hybrid is about to undergo a significant overhaul.

    The images were posted on Toyota’s Japanese social media accounts and feature the words “Hybrid Reborn,” which could refer to the company’s first hybrid hatchback. The images also confirm a reveal date of November 16 for the new model.

    The fifth generation of the Prius will soon be released, and its outline is pretty obvious. But the recognised form, which aids in the vehicle’s aerodynamic profile, might get some fresh details. The headlamp in one of the teaser images resembles the design language on numerous Toyota concept cars, including some of the brand’s most recent EV concepts and the Toyota Crown compact crossover, also known as the Sport-type in Japan.

    Although we are unsure of what to expect from the new hybrid Prius powertrain, we can be confident that it will aim for better fuel economy than the present model, which can get up to 56 mpg combined according to the EPA.     The long-awaited all-new Honda HR-V will finally make its formal debut on Friday, according to Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HACL), which recently teased the crossover in a Facebook post and confirmed the unveiling.

    Honda Pakistan will offer two versions of the HR-V, the VTi and VTi S. The 1.5-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine in the base model will produce 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. A 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with 179 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque will power the second model.

    According to details, the Honda HR-V VTi is anticipated to cost between Rs6.3 and Rs6.5 million. The top variant would cost approximately Rs6.7 million.

    If this pricing is accurate, the Honda HR-V will be a fierce competitor for crossover SUVs that are already on the market. As Pakistani car buyers may favour a crossover over a pricey sedan, sales of Honda Civic and crossover SUVs from other automakers could also have a little impact.

    The sources have also stated that because bookings would begin immediately after the launch, the delivery of this car will begin in November 2022.

    Now that Pakistan’s first electric automobile has been launched with some outstanding features, things are set to change.

    On Independence Day, Pakistan’s first electric vehicle prototype, the NUR-E 75, was displayed on August 14.

    The battery in the car will have a 35kWh capacity with a range of 210 kilometres after being fully charged.

    NUR-E 75 will save a significant amount of fuel, contribute to the fight against climate change, and maintain economic prosperity, claims Dr Khurshid Qureshi, founder and chairperson of the Distinguished Innovation, Collaboration & Entrepreneurship (DICE) Foundation, who developed the prototype.

    It has a maximum speed of 120km/h, tyre size of 16 inches, a ground clearance of 190mm, and a charging capacity of 220V in eight hours, with fast charging also available.

    Dr Qureshi claimed that the production of the car has three stages: the first involved industrial design, production, and launch; the second involved expanding production to include sedans and SUVs, small commercial trucks, and EV platform export; and the third involves exporting the cars.

    The completely working prototype, EV NUR-E 75, is ready for testing and regulatory approval, he said, adding that manufacturing started in 2019. Meanwhile, design work on a rolling platform that will be utilised for multiple vehicle segments is in progress.

    The little hatchback’s maximum output is 80 kW (108 horsepower), and its 35 kWh battery can travel 210 km without the air conditioner on.

    He emphasised that the vehicle, given to Pakistan as a gift for its diamond jubilee, would play a significant role in the context of the environment and climate change and help us transition away from the use of non-renewable fuels.

    Nearly 70 years after the initial vehicle went on sale, the Toyota nameplate for passenger automobiles, which was also the brand’s first to be exported to the United States, is ready to enter its 16th generation.

    It will forgo the standard sedan body form in favour of something resembling a high-riding fastback. Even the Japanese manufacturer rhetorically queries if the new Crown is a sedan or an SUV on its dedicated website.

    The updated model is anticipated to arrive in the United States in the summer of 2023, most likely as 2024MY. The world premiere is scheduled for July 15. It’s important to note that Toyota already increased the Crown lineup by launching the nameplate in China. It is utilised for premium versions of the Highlander SUV and Vellfire minivan rather than specific models.

    If the low-volume Century, which has a special status in the lineup and is only offered to VIPs, is excluded, the Crown has historically been Toyota’s flagship vehicle in its native Japan. Since sedans have lost favour in the Land of the Rising Sun, the next-generation vehicle will not resemble the current one at all, according to patent images.

    According to a recent report (connected to those patent images), the new model will measure 4,930 millimetres (194 inches) in length, 1,840 millimetres (72.4 inches) in width, and 1,540 millimetres (60.6 inches) in height.

    According to reports, the wheelbase is 2,850 mm (112.2 in) long, and the platform may be Toyota’s TNGA-K. There are plans for hybrid and plug-in hybrid drivetrains, as well as two- and four-wheel-drive versions.

    The company’s most costly vehicle in the lineup is expected to be the US-bound sedan/SUV, which is expected to cost around Rs11,428,488 ($50,000) before extras. A wholly electric derivative is anticipated for later in the product’s life cycle, according to sources familiar with the situation, but it’s not clear if the EV would be sold in North America.

    Reuters reported in April that Toyota planned to modernise the Crown sedan, retain it on the market in its home country alongside this new model, and make both of them in Japan.

    Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC), Pakistan’s most prominent automaker, is upgrading its manufacturing plant in preparation for the start of local production of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) by 2023.

    Toyota IMC CEO Ali Asghar Jamali revealed that the locally assembled Toyota Corolla Cross will be available in 2023. It is worth noting that this crossover will be the first ever locally assembled Hybrid vehicle by the Japanese manufacturer in Pakistan.

    He stated that the company intends to launch its hybrid crossover SUV in the Rs5 to Rs7 million price range, which may not be possible given the country’s economic and overall situation. Experts predict that the Crossover will be priced between Rs9-10 million.

    Given the current economic situation and the government’s plan to raise car taxes, Toyota IMC will reveal its final price next year.

    Jamali also discussed the company’s plans for overall HEV localization. He stated that Toyota has already invested $100 million in Pakistan to produce HEVs and plans to introduce electric vehicles (EVs) in the future when the country is ready for this technology.

    Jamali emphasised that HEVs are a midterm solution before EVs because Pakistan lacks the infrastructure for the latter, and that converting all cars to HEVs could reduce Pakistan’s oil imports by up to 50%.

    As most of Pakistan’s electricity is produced using fossil fuels, EVs will increase local LNG, coal, and crude oil imports, while investment in improving distribution and creating a charging infrastructure will also be required, according to Jamali.

    Honda has finally debuted the long-awaited City hybrid sedan in the Indian market. The ex-showroom price of the 2022 Honda City Hybrid e:HEV is 1.9 million INR (PKR 4.7 million). It’s only available in a single ZX model with all of the bells and whistles.

    Last year, the new City Hybrid made its global premiere, and it is India’s first mainstream segment automobile to have robust hybrid technology.

    Powertrain

    The City e:powertrain HEV’s consists of a 1.5-liter Atkinson-Cycle DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine combined with two electric motors. One serves as an electric generator, while the other serves as a propeller. The combined output of this powerplant is 124 horsepower, with a peak torque of 253 Nm. It also comes with three driving modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive, as well as Regeneration mode for slowing.

    Fuel economy

    The new Honda City Hybrid e:HEV is India’s most fuel-efficient sedan, with a stated economy of 26.50 kmpl. Honda has also included 37 high-tech Honda Connect features in the vehicle. Honda’s Sensing Technology is also being introduced for the first time in India.

    Safety technologies such as Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, and more are included in the City e:HEV.

    Arrival in Pakistan

    After the 6th generation, Honda City was retired globally, Honda Atlas Cars Pakistan Limited (HACPL) introduced the latter into the Pakistani auto market, and given the history of Pakistani manufacturers, the car may continue for years, as the 5th generation Honda City was sold by Honda Atlas for more than a decade.

    Toyota to launch its first electric car with 559 km range next month

    Toyota announced that it will introduce its revolutionary bZ4X battery-powered SUV in its home market on May 12, as part of a larger push to minimise its carbon footprint.

    The bZ4X is Toyota’s first vehicle built on a specific electric vehicle (EV) platform created in collaboration with Subaru. It’s made at the Motomachi factory, which now employs CO2-free utility power sourced from renewable sources.

    It was also disclosed that the Japanese dealerships would start taking orders for the first batch of 3,000 vehicles in May 2022, with the second batch of about 2,000 vehicles anticipated early in the autumn. This year, the manufacturer plans to create and sell 5,000 units.

    The Japanese manufacturer claims that its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) SUV has a power-efficiency rating of 128Wh/km and a touring range of 559 kilometers (347 miles). It is compatible with rapid DC chargers available all around the world, while its battery can be topped to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes.

    All bZ4X models delivered in Japan will be leased, as per the manufacturer, to alleviate customer concerns about electric cars and allow it to apply its 3Rs (Rebuild, Reuse, Recycle) battery management system. The batteries incorporated in the SUVs will be guaranteed for ten years and 200,000 kilometers (120,000 miles) at 70 per cent capacity retention.

    The Kinto service will be able to lease the bZ4X models to private clients, while the Rent-a-Lease and Toyota Mobility Services networks will be able to lease the EV to corporate customers.
