    PAK vs NED: Babar Azam breaks world record

    Pakistan cricket team all-format captain Babar Azam has made another record. In the first One-Day International (ODI) against the Netherlands on Tuesday, Babar Azam broke South Africa’s great Hashim Amla’s record for the most runs in ODIs after 88 innings.

    Though he managed to score only 74 runs during Tuesday’s match, they were enough to shatter record books.

    In that innings, he crossed the 4,500-run mark in the ODIs and broke Amla’s record. Babar now has 4,516 runs to his name at an average of 59.42 in 88 innings. On the contrary, Amla had scored 4,473 runs after batting in the exact number of innings.

    Pakistan will play the second ODI on August 18 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

    Earlier this month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the T20I rankings in which Azam was at the top of the rankings with 818 points.

    The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the T20I rankings on Wednesday. Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam, has retained his top spot in the rankings. He is at the top of the rankings with 818 points.

    Babar last played T20I in April but his consistent runs in the T20I format have helped him stay ahead of other players.

    India’s Suryakumar Yadav is on the second spot with 805 points. Last week, he stood at 816 points, just two points away from Babar. Another Pakistani player, Mohammed Rizwan, is in the top 10 ranking with 794 points and is on the third spot.

    Babar continues to be the only batter in the world ranked in the top five in all three formats of the game. Babar is ranked first in T20I and ODIs, and third in Tests.

    Under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan made history by defeating defending champions India in the final of the 2017 International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy, which happened exactly five years ago on June 18 at The Oval.

    Fakhar Zaman scored 144, which played a big part in Pakistan’s victory. Other than him, Azhar Ali’s 59, Babar Azam’s 46 and Hafeez’s 57 led to Pakistan’s win against India.

    One cannot forget Mohammad Amir’s bowling. He showcased his fiery skills by dismissing all three of India’s openers. The entire Indian cricket team was dismissed on 158 in just 30.3 overs.

    Since June 18, every year on this day Pakistan celebrates its victory against its arch-rivals.

    Pakistan is ruling the ICC One-Day International (ODI) batter rankings with skipper Babar Azam on the top while opener Imam-ul-Haq jumped past Virat Kohli to get to the second spot. Earlier, Imam was in the third place in the rankings just below Babar Azam and former India skipper Virat Kohli.

    Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has surpassed Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, as the fastest to 1000 ODI runs as a captain.

    On Wednesday night at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Pakistani captain Babar Azam made history by smashing a century against West Indies in the first ODI, his 17th in the 50-over format, to set a new record.

    He became the first Pakistani batsman to achieve 1000 runs. It took only 13 innings for the world’s number one ODI batsman to achieve this milestone.

    Kohli was the first captain to score 1000 runs in his 17th innings, followed by AB De Villiers (20 matches) and Kane Williamson (22 matches).

    Babar is also the only batsman in ODI history to score three centuries in a row twice. He previously accomplished this feat against the West Indies in 2016, but this time he did so with a century against the West Indies, followed by two hundreds in the second and third home ODIs in April of 2022.

    Babar’s third successive century in ODIs came against Australia in Lahore earlier this year, when he scored 114 and 105 to help Pakistan win the series. It’s worth noting that Babar is now ranked first in the ICC hitters rankings for T20Is and ODIs.

    ICC Women’s cricket championship cycle to begin with Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match in Karachi

    The first one day international between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will mark the beginning of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-2025 cycle. The first match will be played tomorrow, June 1. The remaining two matches will also be also played in Karachi.

    In the championship, each team will play eight three-match series (four home and four away) over the next three years.

    Pakistan will play against South Africa, Ireland, Sri Lanka, West Indies in Pakistan, and will then play against England, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh on international grounds.

    “After a dominating performance in the T20Is against Sri Lanka, we are now focused on delivering our best in the ODI series which is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship. I am pleased that two more teams have been added to the new cycle of the championship,” said Pakistani captain Bismah Maroof.

    “This step from the ICC will help promote the women’s game in Bangladesh and Ireland besides providing them direct qualification opportunities,” she added.

    “Our aim, like the rest of the sides, would be to earn a direct spot in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. In the qualification format, each and every series matters, hence our goal would be to start on a positive note by securing a series win against Sri Lanka while accumulating maximum points.”

    The teams also did a training session on May 30.

    Pakistan won all the three T20I matches against Sri Lanka.

    Who will be next PCB chairperson after Ramiz Raja resigns?

    The incumbent Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson Ramiz Raja is likely to quit from the position following the defeat of Former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a no-confidence motion on Sunday, reports SAMAA.

    Former Captain Ramiz Raja was elected unanimously as the 36th PCB chairman for a three-year term in September 2021.

    According to a report by Cricket Pakistan, Ramiz Raja is currently in Dubai for the International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting. During the meeting, he shared his proposal for a four-nation T20 series ( Pakistan, India, Australia, England) which is rejected because it could not fit in the next media cycles due to the packed Future Tour Program (FTP).

    However, Ramiz Raja expressed his satisfaction with how the meeting underwent through his Twitter account.

    News reports claim that Ramiz is expected to quit his office and former PCB chairperson Najam Sethi is expected to become the next head of PCB.

    Najam Sethi served in 2013 as head of PCB. However, he faced a legal battle with Chaudhry Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, another former chairperson of PCB. He later took up the position again in 2014 but Shahryar Khan replaced him and Sethi was given the charge of the executive committee.

    In 2017, he was appointed again as PCB chairperson but after one year he soon gave up his position in 2018.

    Najam Sethi was the person who launched the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2016 and was the president of PSL at that time.

  • ICC rates Pindi wicket below average, Babar Azam defends

    The Inter­national Cricket Council (ICC) rated the first Test match between Pakistan and Australia pitch “below average” and penalised it with one demerit point after the match ended in a dull draw earlier this week in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

    In a report, Ranjan Madugalle, the ICC match referee for the Pak-Aus Test series said, “The pitch did not have a great deal of pace and bounce in it for the seamers nor assisted the spinners. In my view, this does not represent an even contest between bat and ball. Therefore, in keeping with the ICC guidelines, I rate this pitch as below average.”

    In response, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) claimed that no Pakistani venue has received a demerit point before. However, it accepts ICC’s decision and has given assurance of the quality of pitches in upcoming matches.

    It is pertinent to mention that demerit points remain active for a rolling five-year period. When a venue gets five demerit points, it is suspended from hosting international cricket matches for one year.

    Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has defended the Rawalpindi pitch. The cricketer said that no matter how a pitch is it is important for players to perform on it.

    However, Australian opener David Warner said that he is hopeful of a result-producing wicket in Karachi Test against Pakistan which is going to be played tomorrow (Saturday).

    After the Rawalpindi draw match, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry criticised PCB for “choosing a dead wicket” in the historic Test Match.

    Though India started off the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup campaign with a win, the winners were bowled over by Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof’s daughter after the match.

    A video of Indian women cricketers playing with Maroof’s daughter — Fatima — appeared on social media. A picture also surfaced where players could be seen posing with the mother-daughter duo after the conclusion of the opener in New Zealand.

    “Little Fatima’s first lesson in the spirit of cricket from India and Pakistan,” tweeted the ICC.

    Apart from this, Pakistani and Indians both reacted positively to the video.

    India secured a comprehensive 107-run win over Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup.

    A former captain of Pakistan’s women’s national team and commentator, Sana Mir looks professional yet attractive, in a simple tailored suit. She has opted for both western and eastern attire and killed both looks.

    Bazid Khan

    A former Pakistani cricketer and commentator, Bazid Khan has been actively doing commentary for many years in the International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments. He has been spotted wearing traditional shalwar kameez with a waistcoat in recent PSL 7 matches. In our view, he looks stunning in the traditional dressing style.
