Teacher checking assignments on death bed goes viral

A picture circulating on social media in recent days shows a teacher’s hard work and honesty towards his profession, as he awards marks to his students while admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A woman named Sandra Venegas took the photo of her father working on a hospital bed and shared it on social media to let people know the sacrifices a teacher makes and how dedicated he is to his profession.

Despite serious health issues, the said teacher took the time to pack his laptop and charger, knowing that he was going to the emergency room, and on his deathbed, he graded all his students’ assignments. The next day when the teacher died, his daughter posted this picture on social media with the caption that teachers take time out of their work hours for children in their private lives but no one appreciates them.

“Teachers put in so many extra hours, hours that many don’t realize. Even during a pandemic, even during a health crisis, teachers worry about completing their duties,” Venegas wrote in the caption of the post.

This post has gone viral with a large number of users appreciating the services of the teacher, with some also condoling the death of her father.

MQM founder Altaf Hussain in ICU due to COVID

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has been under treatment for nearly three weeks in Britain due to coronavirus.

Altaf urged his followers to continue praying for him, saying he would speak to them again after recovering.

“May Allah protect everyone from this disease, COVID-19,” he was quoted by a news media outlet as saying. The MQM founder also appealed to listeners to “take precautions and help each other” in the times of a pandemic.

On Jan 23, the MQM from its official Twitter handle tweeted: “MQM founder leader Mr Altaf Hussain got ill. After the check-up, the doctor advised him to rest and suspend his political activities.”

Britain has had one of the world’s highest Covid-19 mortality rates and has recorded more than 106,000 deaths — the worst toll in Europe. The country is currently under a third national lockdown as it battles new strains of the coronavirus.

On October 10, Hussain was charged by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Services with the terrorism offence in a case related to his incendiary speech relayed from the UK to his followers in Pakistan in 2016.

After the speech, a crackdown was launched against the MQM and the government sealed its headquarter, Nine Zero, in Karachi. Later, MQM leaders in Pakistan also distanced themselves from him and removed his name from the party constitution, resulting in the formation of MQM-Pakistan.

  • Patient dies after ‘family unplugs ventilator to turn on air cooler’

Patient dies after ‘family unplugs ventilator to turn on air cooler’

A 40-year-old man died at a hospital after his family members allegedly unplugged the ventilator he was on to plug in an air cooler.

Hospital authorities said a three-member committee will probe the incident.

According to reports, the patient, who was suspected to be suffering from COVID-19, was brought to the ICU of the government-run hospital in the Kota city of India’s Rajasthan state on June 13. His test report, however, came negative later.

The man was shifted to an isolation ward on June 15 as a safety measure after another patient in the ICU tested positive for the disease.

Since it was very hot in the isolation ward, his family members bought an air cooler the same day. On finding no socket for the cooler, they allegedly unplugged the ventilator.

They immediately informed doctors and medical staff, who administered CPR upon the patient, but he died.

Hospital Superintendent Dr Naveen Saxena said the committee comprising the deputy superintendent, nursing superintendent and chief medical officer on duty will probe the incident and submit a report.

The committee has recorded statements of medical staff in the isolation ward but the family members of the deceased patient are not responding to the panel, he alleged.

The family members allegedly did not seek permission to plug in the cooler and when the patient died, they “misbehaved” with the medical staff and the resident doctor on duty, other hospital authorities said.
