    The Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, said in a press conference on Sunday that the police have data of the calls of March 8 and 9 May, adding that the call data shows similarities between both events, helping police in arresting those responsible for the riots.

    PTI claimed that Ali Bilal (Zillay Shah) died during police custody when he was captured during a crackdown on party workers and supporters protesting near Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence on March 8.

    “We have records of each call made during these incidents and we are presenting them as evidence in court,” he added.

    He further said that law enforcement agencies had solid evidence that PTI leaders, in­cluding Dr. Yasmin Rashid, were in­volved in May 9 attacks and the tar­gets were pre-determined. “The May 9 incidents were carried out at a specific time as planned, the targets for the attacks were pre-determined”.

    While denying the accusations of PTI women being mistreated in jail, the IG said, “only lady police officers had interrogated women in custody.”

    Punjab Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar held a joint press conference with SSP Dr Anoush Chaudhry on Tuesday, to dismiss allegations of mistreatment of women in jails.

    He said that people should have trust in their institutions, adding that there are more than 150 cameras inside Kot Lak Pat jail.

    Dr Anoush said that women were being provided facilities as per rules. She said that she had met with the detained women herself and inquired about any issues they were facing.

    The IG also said that old pictures and videos were being posted to propagate a false narrative.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, in a televised address to the nation on Sunday, claimed that he had received reports that women belonging to his party are being harassed in jails.

    He requested the judiciary to take suo motu action against the arrests.

    Woman raped in Faisalabad hospital

    A woman who went to Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology for a check-up has been allegedly raped by a security guard, reported Geo News.

    According to the police, the woman is married. In her complaint to the police, she said that she went to the hospital for a check-up where the security guard told her that the doctor is not present and took her to a separate room in the hospital and allegedly raped her there.

    Following the incident, the police registered the case on the woman’s complaint and started an investigation. The accused is still missing and efforts to arrest him are underway.

    Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Hamza Shehbaz took notice of the incident. He sought a report from the Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab and directed that strict action should be taken against the accused and justice should be ensured.

    Last month, Punjab Home Minister Attaullah Tarar announced that the Punjab government would declare an emergency following an increase in rape and sodomy cases in the province.

    A 15-year-old girl was raped in front of her father in Pattoki on Thursday while she, her father and five-year-old brother were on their way to home from a marriage ceremony, reports ARY News.

    According to details, Zahoor Ahmed, the father of the rape survivor told police that they were stopped at the Pattoki-Chunian Bypass by dacoits.

    Ahmed said that the dacoits led him to the fields, tied him with a rope, and then raped his daughter right in front of his eyes.

    “Later, when they saw some bystanders, they panicked and fled, leaving their motorcycle behind,” he added.

    Saddar police officers arrived at the scene and transported them to the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, where the girl’s medical test revealed that she had been raped.

    A case has been filed against unidentified individuals. Meanwhile, the Punjab Inspector General (IG) has taken notice of the matter and summoned a detailed report from Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sheikhupura and directed him for the immediate arrest of the culprits. He has also directed the District Police Officer (DPO) to remain in touch with the family of the survivor.

    Lahore Police has planned to utilise Body Worn Cam at E-Police checkpoints on the entry and exit points of the provincial capital for the welfare of the public, according to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Wing Lahore Captain (retd) Mustansir Feroze. 

    He claimed that the Lahore Police Department’s plan will not only keep the city secure but also minimize citizen-police conflicts. He added that the interaction (audio and video) between police officers and civilians would also be recorded by the Body-Worn Cam.

    According to SSP Operations, this measure will aid in identifying criminals as well as eliminating terrorism. He claimed that this method would re-establish public trust in the police force, and also that citizens can lodge complaints on 1787.

    Senior police officials will supervise the programme and would offer on-the-spot instructions to address the public’s complaints.

    Body cameras are already being used in a number of other nations, but they have never been deployed by police in Pakistan.     Lahore Police arrested 648 dacoits, recovering more than Rs27 crore in three months

    Lahore Police has recently revealed performance statistics on eliminating crime during the first three months of 2022.

    According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Additional IG Fayyaz Ahmad Dev, the first three months of the current year were peaceful in terms of overall law, order and security.

    He stated that the Lahore Police Department has applied advanced operational techniques, effective modalities, and systemic reforms to help bolster its force’s capacity to limit violence and preserve tranquility in the city.

    Performance Statistics

    Lahore Police detained 648 wanted members of 253 dacoit gangs and recovered cash and precious items valued at more than Rs27 crore.

    From the criminals, police recovered nearly 70 vehicles, 1,123 motorcycles, 14 laptops, and 843 cell phones. During the city’s big anti-illegal weapons operation, Lahore Police detained 1,214 criminals and registered 1,207 cases against them. From these criminals, police confiscated 05 Kalashnikovs, 90 rifles, 41 guns, 1,007 pistols, 01 carbine, 07 revolvers, and over 6,000 bullets.

    During the last three months, police arrested 1,973 criminals, filed 1,939 FIRs against them, and recovered more than 19 kg heroin, 843 kg charas, three kg ice, 50 kg opium, and 13,815 liters of liquor from them.

    Likewise, the Lahore Police Department nabbed 1,119 gambling suspects and filed 237 cases against them, collecting more than Rs23 lakh 69 thousand in gambling money. Moreover, the Punjab Police is aggressively chasing violators of the tenancy registration, displaying weapons, and violation of the Loudspeaker Act throughout Punjab. There were 1,117 incidents of exhibiting firearms, 4,795 cases of illegal possession of arms, and 624 licenses cancelled.

    According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 882 cases of tenancy law violations were reported in the metropolis, with 1,233 people arrested. Similarly, 304 cases of violation of the Loudspeaker Act were registered, 310 individuals were arrested, and 1,203 cases of exhibiting and carrying illegal weapons were registered, with stern legal action being taken.

    Special squads have been created on the orders of IG Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan to apprehend the culprits, while the effectiveness of the Anti-Riot Force, Dolphin Squad, and Police Response Unit has also been improved. The Commander of Lahore Police is closely watching the productivity of police officers in order to meet crime-control objectives.
