    Pakistan military plans to acquire nearly 4,000 kanals of land in Haripur for ‘defence purposes’

    Geo Fact Check has reported that an official letter, circulating on social media since last month, claiming that the Pakistan Army intends to acquire nearly 4,000 Kanals of land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is indeed authentic.

    The Military Estate Officer in Abbottabad Cantt wrote the letter to the deputy commissioner (DC) in Haripur district, KP.

    The letter read, “It is apprised that the Army authorities intend to acquire a chunk of land measuring 3,481 kanals and 17 marlas situated at village Kenthla and Kot Jandan, tehsil Khanpur, district Haripur for defence purposes.”

    Two government officials, including the additional Assistant Commissioner of revenue in Haripur, Ijaz Khan Jadoon, have confirmed the letter’s authenticity to Geo Fact Check.

    “The complete process of [land] acquisition will take six to 12 months,” stated Ijaz, adding that the land was located behind Islamabad’s Margalla hills.

    The web series Barzakh has ended, but the drama surrounding the project hasn’t stopped. Zindagi announced that they would take the show off YouTube Pakistan on August 9 because of a controversy over its ‘inappropriate’ content.

    After the announcement, designer Maria B threatened to take the ‘Barzakh’ team to court for promoting what she called ‘provocative’ themes.

    In response, rapper Ali Gul Pir pointed out that ‘Barzakh’ is an Indian production. He questioned whether Maria B would take similar legal action against other international shows like Game of Thrones, which also has controversial content.

    Gul Pir, on his Instagram stories, said we have bigger problems to worry about, such as lack of education and inflation. “There are many things on the internet, on YouTube. We faced a YouTube ban for three years before. This [Barzakh] is an Indian product. Your actors acted in it, but it’s an international project. You cannot ban everything on the internet,” he said.

    Gul Pir explained that banning things often makes them more popular. Instead, people should simply not watch what they don’t like. “You don’t have to watch these things. I didn’t even know about this drama until you made it famous. There are many actors who, if you don’t like them, don’t watch their stuff. But banning everything is not the solution.”

    The rapper added that Pakistanis often misdirect their anger and do not criticize the poor condition of government hospitals or lack of education.
    “Unfortunately, we are here while the world has progressed. No outrage over our performance at the Olympics or the state of Jinnah Hospital. But a drama? Court! The whole country gets outraged over a drama. There is no outrage over lack of education, but mention sex and everyone is outraged!”
    On Tuesday, after Zindagi’s announcement to take down Barzakh from YouTube Pakistan, the show’s director, Asim Abbasi, said he supports the decision to protect his team’s safety.

    Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) bigwig and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, while addressing a rally at Swabi, threatened the federal government that his party would ‘’hold a rally in Islamabad in late August or the first week of September at any cost.’’

    Addressing the government, the CM said, “We will accept any venue, whether F9 Park or Srinagar Highway, for a rally in Islamabad.”

    He also said, “If the government does not permit the Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) despite requesting it, then we will rally at D Chowk.” Earlier, PTI offered to negotiate with the military by announcing their representative chairman, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.

    Famous singer Aima Baig has announced that she will start a nationwide ‘#MeToo’ campaign after her recent Umrah pilgrimage.

    Aima shared her plans on Instagram, saying that her religious journey gave her new strength and purpose.

    In her Instagram story, the songstress said that performing Umrah made her feel the need to help and protect women in Pakistan from harmful people.

    “There are many people who have hurt young girls,” Aima said. “I stayed quiet before, but not anymore.”

    Aima admitted she regrets not speaking up earlier, but now she is determined to lead a ‘#MeToo’ movement to give women a voice.

    “I will speak up for women,” she declared. “We are not toys or jokes; we are important and deserve respect.”

    Aima urged women to raise their voices against unfair treatment and abuse, pointing out that many girls suffer physically and mentally from mistreatment.

    She promised to take action, saying, “I have a list of those who have wronged women. We will use evidence and support all women.”

    Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmad has stated that the military’s views on May 9 are the same as before, and those responsible for the May 9 events must be brought to justice.

    “There has been no change in that nor there will be,” the military spokesperson asserted referring to the military’s stance about May 9.

    He also recalled last week’s government notification in which the TTP was declared as “Fitna al-Khawarij” for distorting the image of Islam.

    The DG ISPR also warned that those involved in “digital terrorism” will be punished because they want to drive a wedge between the armed forces and the people of Pakistan.

    “The law is not taking its course against it, but the armed forces take it very seriously,” he stated that legal action would be taken against those involved.

    Talking about the recent protests by Baloch Yakjehti Committee, he said, “In the guise of a peaceful march, BYC protestors are committing violence against forces.”

    British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has stated that if given the opportunity by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, he is eager to have a “one-on-one meeting with Imran Khan” to find common grounds for resolving issues, journalist Murtaza Ali Shah reported.

    “I have known Imran Khan for a long time, and he is a dear friend whom I deeply respect. I am willing to act as a mediator and help resolve any disputes between both parties,” said Khan, wanting to play the role of arbitrator between the establishment and Imran Khan.

    He also stated that he has “great respect for the COAS, and his incredible work for Pakistan,” adding that he firmly believes that a personal conversation with the former prime minister could lead to a breakthrough.

    The former professional boxer stated that he was ready to travel to Pakistan to resolve the issues between the two parties and ensure the prosperity of Pakistan.

    Founder of Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said in an interview with Reuters that it would be “foolish” not to have excellent relations with the Pakistan Army while also clarifying that he held no grudges against the United States, whom he previously blamed for conspiring against his government in 2022.

    “Given Pakistan’s geographical position and the military’s significant role in the private sector, it would be foolish not to foster such a relationship,” said Khan.

    He also clarified that he criticises certain “individuals” in the army but not the institution, saying, “The miscalculations of the military leadership shouldn’t be held against the institution as a whole.”

    Today, August 5, marks a whole year since Khan was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, ranging from selling state gifts to leaking state secrets.

    Last week, Khan offered “conditional negotiations” with the military establishment if “clean and transparent” elections were held and the “bogus” cases against his supporters were dropped.

    Khan also reiterated that talking with the government was futile since, according to him, the government has no public support.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) official page on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, announced the cancellation of the basic party membership of maverick leader Sher Afzal Marwat for a “gross violation/ breach” of discipline.

    In an interesting development, however, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has termed the notification “fake” even though the post still hasn’t been removed from the party’s social media platforms.

    “The notification regarding cancellation of Sher Afzal Marwat’s membership is fake. It’s not possible,” stated Gohar, clearly signalling rifts within the party leadership over Marwat’s future.

    In the notification, it was said that Marwat was on notice and was asked to “restrict himself, and his statements to within the limitation as outlined in the letter. A committee was setup to monitor his statements, media appearances and tweets.”

    It further stated that if Marwat was an honourable person he would resign from the NA seat because he won as a nominated PTI candidate and seek re-election.

    Meanwhile, Marwat has accepted the party notification on X, saying, “I respect the party’s decision, but let me make one thing clear: I was Khan’s soldier.”

    He also stated that Khan had been misguided about him and that he would clarify his position in front of Imran Khan.

    Drug dealer suspect’s lawyer wants same privileges as Imran Khan

    A lawyer for a man arrested in suspicion of being a drug dealer took Lahore High Court to task for denying his clients the privileges given to former Imran Khan, currently also in jail.

    A bail hearing was scheduled today at the Lahore High Court.

    During the proceedings, the suspect’s lawyer cited legal precedents, including cases involving the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan who is currently incarcerated.

    Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, presiding over the bench, deliberated on the eligibility for bail in such cases. He stated that the accused involved in drug trade deserve punishment without bail, emphasizing the detrimental impact of drugs on society and its influence in educational institutions.

    The lawyer argued under Article 25 of the Constitution, the man deserved the same conveniences given to Imran in legal matters. “My client and the PTI founder should be considered equally under Article 25,” the lawyer asserted.

    Responding to this, Justice Mansoor questioned the relevance of Khan’s cases to the current bail application. The lawyer replied back that despite facing numerous cases, the PTI’s founder had been granted bail in a cipher case by the Supreme Court.

    “Imran Khan was granted bail despite facing over 200 cases, including terrorism charges,” the lawyer elaborated. “In contrast, my client faces only 14 cases and should similarly be eligible for bail.”

    Justice Shah differentiated between the nature of charges against the PTI founder and the suspect, emphasizing the severity of the charges in each case.

    The lawyer countered by highlighting the specific charge against the PTI founder, which carries the death penalty. “There is a cipher case against the PTI founder, a capital offense,” the lawyer pointed out.

    The lawyer also drew attention to the disparity in facilities between the PTI founder and his client while in custody. “The PTI founder enjoys better living conditions in jail, which are not available to my client,” the lawyer argued.

    After considering legal precedents and arguments presented, the three-member bench, headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, approved the bail application of the accused, Obaidullah.

    British-American journalist deported from Pakistan after attempted interview with Imran Khan

    Law enforcement agencies in Pakistan deported a British-American journalist after he tried to interview the incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

    Charles Glass, a 73-year-old author, journalist, broadcaster, and publisher known for his work focusing on the Middle East and World War II, has worked with renowned news platforms such as Newsweek, ABC TV, and The Telegraph. Currently, he works as a freelance journalist.

    Glass was reportedly seen outside Adiala jail with Imran Khan’s sister Aleema. Later, police forces arrived at the home of senior journalist Zahid Hussain, where Glass was present.

    On Wednesday afternoon, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) led a team and informed Glass that his visa had been cancelled. This led to an hour-long contention, after which the ASP instructed Glass to leave the country by 5 pm.

    According to sources quoted by Dawn, the ASP had a clear order to deport the journalist.

    Glass was taken to his hotel to collect his luggage and was escorted to the earliest available flight to Abu Dhabi at 4 pm that afternoon.
