  • ‘Petrol price is Rs75 per litre,’ says PTI leader Uzma Kardar

    Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf’s (PTI) MNA Uzma Kardar has said that petrol is being sold at Rs75 per litre in the country, which in reality is being sold at Rs114.24 per litre.

    Uzma Kardar said this while replying to a question of a reporter about petrol prices in Pakistan.

    This is not the first time any PTI leader has made a statement mentioning wrong prices of things in the country. A few days earlier finance advisor Abdul Hafeez and prime miniter’s aide Firdous Ashiq Awan, both in there statements mentioned wrong prices of Tomatoes and Peas (Matar) in Pakistan.

    Abdul Hafeez Sheikh had earlier claimed that tomatoes are being sold at Rs17 per kilogramme (kg). However, the fruit is being sold at as much as Rs320 per kg in the market as reported by citizens who bought groceries from multiple locations.

    Similarly, Firdous Ashiq Awan had earlier claimed that peas are being sold in the market for only Rs5 per kilogram.

    Allison shared that an Indian cab driver came to pick them up from the hotel in Brisbane at quarter to 6 to bring them to the cricket ground. He asked them if they were working or going to watch cricket and she told them that we work in the commentary. He got very excited and brought his phone out and showed them a picture with Pakistani cricketers.

    So a couple of days ago before picking up Mitchell and her team, he had been called to pick up someone from the hotel. It turned out that a group of Pakistani cricketers including Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Imran Khan, Musa Khan and Naseem Shah, wanted to go to an Indian restaurant for a meal. He was very happy to see them as he was a cricket fan. He did not charge them so the players asked him to join them for a meal.

  • Boxer Amir Khan expresses desire to become sports minister

    British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has said that he would like to become the sports minister in Pakistan to promote sports, Geo News reported.

    According to the details, Amir in an interview has alleged that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has done ‘nothing for sports in Pakistan’ after coming to power, adding that he is the only person that does anything for sports.

    Amir Khan, who is a friend of PM Imran, said that “all the people in Pakistan are crying”, and credited himself for taking Pakistani boxers around the world to put them in fights.

    The boxer further alleged that a government minister visited his boxing academy, made some pictures and left, and nothing was done after that.

    “There should be at least 10-15 boxing academies in Pakistan because there are so many boxers in Pakistan but nothing’s happening so that’s why I said that Imran khan, being a sports man, he is not really backing sports”, Amir said.

    He also feared that sports are “probably going down even more than before because Nawaz Sharif is the one who got the Sports Council of Pakistan to give me the boxing academy, then I spent my own money around $100,000 on it to build it up but all I say is that Imran Khan is less supporting boxing”.

    Amir Khan also expressed desire to enter in Pakistani politics, saying that he will do something for people if he became sports minister.

    Amir Khan often attended fundraising events with PM Imran in Manchester in the past. The prime minister had at one event promised to take people like Amir Khan to Pakistan.

    Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday had a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump.

    According to PTI’s official Twitter account, PM Khan had a telephone conversation with President Trump, during which bilateral and regional issues were discussed.

    PM Imran conveyed that the release of Western hostages in Afghanistan was a positive development and Pakistan was happy that they were safe and free. President Trump thanked the PM for Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating this positive outcome.

    The Prime Minister re-affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the advancement of Afghan peace and reconciliation process for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. Both leaders agreed to continue to work together for the promotion of this shared objective.

    The Prime Minister apprised President Trump of the current situation in IOJ&K, underscoring that over 8 million people remained under siege for over 100 days now.

    Appreciating President Trump’s continued engagement as well as mediation offer, PM Imran stressed that the President must continue his efforts for facilitation of a peaceful solution of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute.

    Recalling their conversations in Washington and New York, the two leaders agreed to deepen bilateral collaboration, including in relevant multilateral fora.

    The two leaders further agreed to remain in close contact.

    In her latest tweet, Jemima addressed Islamaphobia and religion by quoting a quote by British Comedian Ahir Shah.

    She expected some backlash on her views so she said that she’ll delete her tweet if she gets “too much flak.”

    Many people did comment on her tweet, asking her not to debate religion .

    But the most interesting replies of them all was a user asking her if she had “ever cried badly for Imran Khan.”

    PM Imran’s weekend break: what should he be doing?

    Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to take a mini-break for the first time since he assumed office.

    According to reports, the PM has suspended his official and party engagements for two days, (Saturday and Sunday) and will be spending the weekend with his family members at his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad.

    The PM will take a break from his work and no government official or party members will meet the premier, neither will he chair any meeting this weekend. PM Imran often chairs Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) meetings at his Bani Gala residence on the weekends as well as receives the party leaders and government officials there.

    Considering that PM Imran is taking the weekend off, here are five things The Current recommends he does to make the most of his time off:

    1. Sleep – Is a weekend off really a weekend off unless you sleep at least 16 hours?
    2. Skype with his sons who are in London
    3. Catch up on Pakistani dramas – He must binge-watch Meray Paas Tum Ho and Alif, which starres his fav actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. After all they are creating quite a stir.
    4. Eat – We’ve heard that the PM is quite fond of haleem. The cooks in Banigala should get going on making his fav dish.
    5. Reading – What better way to spend the weekend morning soaking up the winter sun and reading That Will Never Work by Marc Randolph.

    The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Rashid Mehmood Soomro has claimed that Israel has said that JUI-F’s Azadi March has ruined their 40 years investment in Pakistan.

    Rashid Somroo made these claims in a talk show with journalist Hamid Mir when the Azadi March protest was still active, the video of which has now gone viral over the internet.

    JUI-F leader said, “The Israeli newspapers have reported this that Azadi March has managed to ruin their 40 years investment in Pakistan”, adding that the protest also suppressed the talks about Pakistan accepting Israel as a state.

    Hamir Mir on this claim made by Rashid remarked that no government official had made any statement regarding the acceptance of Israel.

    To which JUI-F leader claimed that “top government officials were engaged in backdoor talks with Israel and were ready to accept it, but JUI-F successfully managed to stop these talks”.

    The protests, led by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, began with the ‘Azadi March’ on October 27 from Karachi. Thousands of supporters reached Islamabad on October 31, holding a two-week sit-in on the city’s main highway.

    On November 13, Fazl ordered his supporters to disperse across the country to block roads, in what he termed as ‘Plan B’ to topple Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

    On Thursday protesters blocked the Grand Trunk Road between Islamabad and Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, causing lengthy delays. Similar disruptions were reported in Jacobabad — a city in Sindh linking the province with Balochistan and Punjab.

    Leaders of the ruling Pakistan Terhreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) major coalition partner, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), have advised Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to withdraw the “unjustified” condition set for ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s foreign travel.

    The development comes at a time when the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has already taken the government to the Lahore High Court (LHC) over its demand for an indemnity bond worth Rs7 billion, which it called “unconstitutional” and a “ransom”.

    PML-Q is the major ally of the PTI government in both Punjab and the Centre and the Chaudhry brothers, Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi, have urged PM Imran not to listen to those were creating hurdles in the departure of Nawaz Sharif.

    Shujaat said, “PM Imran has to overcome the storm which has started over Nawaz Sharif’s departure,” referring to a barrage of statements coming out in the favour of Nawaz after the government placed its condition for the permission to fly overseas.

    The PML-Q president urged PM to focus on important issues, such as rising inflation and unemployment, adding that “People in power should only spend their energy on ending inflation and unemployment,” PML-Q added.

    Similarly, speaker Pervaiz Elahi has also urged the federal government to withdraw its demand of the surety bond, saying that if something happened to Nawaz, the issue would haunt the incumbent PM for the rest of his life.

    While the PTI government is facing immense pressure to not let former premier to go abroad without a financial guarantee, it seems a rift has appeared between two allies over Nawaz’s health issue.

    Ever since Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah has made a statement about Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s former wife, Jemima Goldsmith; that ‘Wiki of Wikileaks’ is her cousin, social media is flooded with funny quotes.

    Dr Farhan Virk, a social worker from Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf (PTI) had recently started a Twitter trend called “KifayatQuote” after Wiki-Jamima blunder and asked its followers to come up with funny quotes that they can attribute to JUI-F leader.

    Soon after Dr Farhan began the trend by sharing a meme on his Twitter handle which said, “Kartarpur is the cousin of Faryal Talpur” and wrote, “Guys, Grab your keyboards and start trending KifayatQuotes as it is now time to pay a tribute to this great legend of social media and Azadi March”.

    Since then the Twitter users across Pakistan are sharing funny quotes and attributing all of them to Mufti Kifayat.

    One of the users wrote that Pakistan Cricket team’s skipper and batsman Babar Azam is the grandson of Quaide Azam.

    Is PM Imran really related to Indian Punjab CM Amarinder Singh?

    Local media reports are headlining that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Indian Punjab’s Chief Minister Amarinder Singh share family ties. But while the two certainly do share history, they are not related.

    According to an official statement issued by Singh’s office, PM Imran and Singh on their five-minute bus ride on the inauguration of the Kartarpur Corridor discovered a ‘special connect’ between their two families even though they had not met each other before and neither did the two know each other personally.

    The statement read, “During his conversation with [PM] Imran, Captain Amarinder told the latter that his uncle, Jahangir Khan had played for Patiala, along with Mohd Nisar, Lala Amarnath, fast bowler Amar Singh and the two Ali batsmen (Wazir Ali and Amir Ali).

    “These seven players were part of the team captained by Captain Amarinder’s father, Maharaja Yadvinder Singh (the ruler of the erstwhile Patiala state) in 1934-35, for India and for Patiala.”

    Jahangir was married to PM Imran’s maternal aunt, Mubarak, and was a cricketer during the British Raj era.

    The Congress leader’s office said that the bus ride lasted less than five minutes, but, thanks to cricket, it was enough to break the ice between the two leaders.

    The Punjab chief minister was part of the group of over 550 Indian pilgrims who were the first Indians to enter Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor.

    Singh shared the bus ride with the premier after he was received by PM Imran and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at the Zero Point of the International Border of the Kartarpur corridor.
