Weird that specific party knows election date, says Bilawal Bhutto

The chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has said on Wednesday that it’s weird that only one party knows the election date.
Bilawal Bhutto didn’t take the name of any party, but his statement was about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as President Arif Alvi proposed November 6 as the date for the country’s general elections in response to the appeal from his party.
The former foreign minister also said that one party cannot resolve the issues in the country. “All parties will have to sit together to take the country out of this crisis.”

“The PPP is answerable for its ministries and the PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement] for its own,” Bilawal added.
“As far as the PTI is concerned, those who were involved in the May 9 attacks, it is very difficult for us [to hold talks with them],” Bilawal said, adding, “An incompetent and ineligible prime minister was imposed due to which [country] had to face a crisis at the economic and foreign level.”

Vice-chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Wednesday that there was and is only one Chairman of the party, putting to rest any speculation about his loyalty to Imran Khan.

Appearing before a special court in Islamabad for a hearing of the cipher case, the former Foreign Minister said that Pakistan is very dear to him. “I am confident that I have never betrayed my country,” Qureshi said as he talked to media while in handcuffs.

“The gallows are near where I am incarcerated. I am loyal to my country. If I have been disloyal, then hang me,” Qureshi told members of the press, adding that he is in solitary confinement. “I am not allowed to walk around like other prisoners are. I also eat the same food as the other prisoners, I am not allowed food from home,” he said, describing the conditions inside Adiala Jail.

Shah Mehmood said that he met his wife and children on Tuesday. “My family is going through torture,” he commented.

Talking about PTI chairman Imran Khan, Qureshi said that no one can replace him. “Speculation and confusion are being spread about the chairmanship of the party,” he commented.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stated on Tuesday that his party is prepared for the upcoming general election even if they are held tomorrow.

He gave this statement while speaking on Hamid Mir’s program ‘Capital Talk’ on Geo News. Maulana’s statement comes one day after Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took a jibe at his party’s former allies, saying that they are “running away” from the elections.
“Conduct the elections tomorrow… we are ready for the polls even for tomorrow,” Maulana said.

The President of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) also said that his party had consistently called for new elections during the three and half years of Imran Khan’s government, reminding Hamid Mir that his party didn’t accept the result of 2018 polls and that stakeholders in All-Parties Conference (APC) were also not happy about the results.

“The APC agreed that the [2018] election results will not be accepted,” he said, adding that it meant that all political parties unanimously demanded new elections.

Khan wants desi chicken in jail, Rs79,000 deposited in his account

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who is in Attock jail in the cipher case, refused to eat broiler chicken and asked for desi chicken (organic chicken) to be added in his diet.

According to sources, Rs79,000 rupees have been added to Imran Khan’s bank account by his legal team to fulfill his desire to eat desi chicken in jail.

Jail authorities outlined Khan’s daily food requirements and made a meal plan after consulting with the former prime minister. In breakfast, Imran Khan can have two eggs, bread, and yogurt. The PTI chairman can eat bread for lunch and dinner as well.

Different pulses and vegetables are also part of the meal plan.

Usually, broiler chicken is served four days a week in jail. However, Imran Khan doesn’t like broiler chicken, so jail authorities gave him desi chicken twice in the past 15 days, which cost Rs8,000 rupees. This amount has been deducted from Imran Khan’s account.

Journalist questions US ‘internal matter’ response to Imran’s arrest, compares to other countries

Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the US State Department, was recently questioned about his country’s “subdued and muted” response to former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s arrest.

In a recent press briefing, a journalist asked Miller about whether he thought Khan got a fair trial. To this, Miller responded by saying, “We think it’s an internal matter for Pakistan. And we continue to call for the respect of democratic principles, human rights and rule of law in Pakistan, as we do around the world.”

The journalist then said, “Some people describe that response as subdued and muted,” asking if that was because of Imran Khan’s criticism of the USA when he was Prime Minister.

“I think our response to this arrest and his previous arrest have been consistent,” Miller replied, repeating again that it was an internal matter for Pakistan.

Another journalist then asks, “How is that different from the Navalny case,” referring to Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for allegedly funding an extremist organisation. The US had strongly condemned Navalny’s detention.

Miller replied, “There are times when the case is so obviously unfounded that the United States believes it should say something about the matter. We have not made that determination here.”

President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, can announce the election date anytime, Geo News has reported. President Alvi met with interim law minister Ahmad Irfan Aslam on Monday and discussed the matter of the election date.

The law minister reportedly told the President that in his opinion, deciding the polling date is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), verifying the stance of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

However, the President declaring a date on his own could start another legal crisis with the matter likely to end up in the Supreme Court.

According to a report in The News, President Alvi met with two significant individuals in Aiwan-e-Sadr on September 4. The location of the meeting, the Aiwan-e-Sadr’s fourth floor, was off-limits to everyone, including staff.

General Nadeem Ahmad Anjum, the head of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was also present at the meeting, according to a previous revelation by Kamran Yousaf in his vlog on August 30.

Imran Khan files petition against superintendent jail after not being allowed to talk to sons

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has filed a petition against the superintendent of Attock jail on Monday for not allowing him to speak to his sons over the phone.

Khan is in custody until September 13 under the cypher case. He had been arrested on August 5 in the Tosha Khana case, and since then he has been in Attock jail.

Last month, Khan was allowed to speak to his sons over the phone by a special court formed to hear cases registered under the Official Secrets Act.

However, Imran Khan has claimed in his petition against the Attock jail superintendent that he is not following the court orders.

Judge Abdul Hasnat Zulqarnain has issued a notice to the superintendent, asking for the submission of an implementation report of the court’s orders on September 15.

Usman Dar ‘abducted’, PTI demands immediate release

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Saturday that party leader Usman Dar has been “abducted”, demanding that the Sialkot native be recovered and presented in court, Geo News has reported.

“First it was Aoun Abbas Buppi, then Sadaqat Abbasi, and now Usman Dar has been abducted,” the party wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Usman Dar is the latest in a number of PTI leaders and officials who have encountered cases and incarceration after the May 9 riots.
PTI leader Farrukh Habib said in a tweet on Saturday that Dar “be brought to light immediately and presented in court if there was a case against him so Dar could exercise his right to defend himself and his family could meet him”.

Earlier, Dar had said that his house, factory, and business in Sialkot were sealed in August. He had also said in one of his statements that his family members, including women, were left helpless.
