  • Why are Indians boycotting Cadbury chocolate?

Why are Indians boycotting Cadbury chocolate?

People in India are boycotting Cadbury chocolate over the allegations that the gelatine used in Cadbury’s goods is “derived from beef”. #BoycottCadbury has been trending on Twitter since Sunday.

On social media, a screenshot of what appears to be a Cadbury website was extensively shared and claims that the gelatine used in their goods is “halal approved and sourced from cattle.”

As per NDTV- an Indian media news outlet, the screenshot is from an older version of the brand’s Australian website.

Another reason Cadbury products are being boycotted is because a recent advertisement by the company uses “Damodar” as the name of a poor lamp seller. Customers are claiming that this has been done to show “someone with PM Narendra Modi’s father’s name in poor light”.

  • ‘First trip to Azad Jammu and Kashmir’, US ambassador under fire by Indians for tweet

United States (US) Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome, on his visit to Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Dak Bungalow, tweeted on Sunday, “The Bungalow symbolises the cultural and historical richness of Pakistan and was famously visited by Jinnah in 1944. I’m honoured to visit during my first trip to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).”

Blome—who is currently in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) for his first visit—mentioned Pakistan’s part of Kashmir as “Azad”.

It is pertinent to mention that Washington officially still considers both Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory between India and Pakistan.

Indians seem to have taken offence with the tweet, lashing out at the US official. One user called the US a “backstabber” while the other was of the view that Americans should never be trusted no matter what.

House of female Indian Muslim activist demolished for allegedly protesting against BJP

Authorities in India’s Uttar Pradesh demolished the homes of numerous people accused of being involved in protesting against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokespersons who made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

One of the houses that was demolished belonged to activist Javed Mohammed. The police accused Mohammed of being ‘one of the main conspirators of violence’ on Friday but others say that his house was bulldozed because he is the father of 22-year-old Muslim activist Afreen Fatima. According to The Quint, “The action against the student activist and her family is being widely criticised as another instance of the ‘bulldozer politics’ being perpetrated in BJP-ruled states.”

Two protesters were also killed by the Indian police on Friday for protesting.

A local resident, Shabnam Ara, told AFP that the authorities cut internet connections in the city and imposed a curfew.

“We are praying for peace and harmony,” she said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the Indian state’s “apparatus to browbeat Indian Muslims into submission.”

“The reality of India’s “democratic face” is before the world to see,” he added.

The derogatory remarks were made by BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal. India’s ruling party suspended Sharma and expelled Jindal. The two also issued public apologies.

  • Did you know Indians made desi version of ‘FRIENDS’?

We just found out that there exists a desi version of FRIENDS made by ZeeTv. Episodes of the desi version titled ‘HELLO FRIENDS‘ are on YouTube and it is not only unfunny but also unoriginal because the makers copied each and every scene and the exact dialogues from the original. Needless to Friends fans were outraged with this and some even called it a bigger pandemic than COVID-19.

A Twitter user posted a video of its opening scene on the microblogging site and people think it was not a good idea to make a desi version of the super hit show.
