Malakand’s Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) confirmed on Tuesday that attackers killed six people, including five Chinese nationals, when they targeted the foreigners’ vehicle in Shangla’s Besham city.
The attackers crashed their vehicle, loaded with explosives, into the car carrying the Chinese nationals, as reported by the DIG.
The DIG also said that the driver sustained injuries and was transferred to the local hospital.
More than 180 people were killed and over 150 were injured in 215 traffic accidents in Karachi during the current year.
The majority of the 91 traffic incidents, which resulted in 69 fatalities and 77 injuries, occurred in district west. In a similar manner, truck collisions resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals and 10 injuries.
According to Express Tribune, there were a total of 141 motorcycle accidents, 110 of which were fatal, resulting in 130 fatalities and 84 injuries.
A total of 215 traffic incidents in various parts of the city from January 1 to November 27, 2022, resulted in 184 fatalities and 152 injuries, according to information provided by the Traffic Police.
In Traffic Zone West, where there were 91 traffic incidents overall, 69 people died and 77 were hurt. A total of 36 traffic incidents occurred in the district of Malir, 34 of which were fatal, resulting in the deaths of 41 people and the injuries of 29 others.
The data show that the Traffic Zone of District East reported 26 accidents, 21 of which resulted in fatalities, and 13 of which resulted in injuries. Similar to this, there were 19 traffic incidents in district central, resulting in 18 fatalities and 9 injuries. In Korangi, there were a total of 17 traffic incidents, which resulted in 14 fatalities and 9 injuries.
In district south, there were about 20 traffic accidents that resulted in 16 fatalities and 12 injuries, while only three people were hurt in six accidents in the city district.
Data from the traffic police show that 35 traffic accidents—the maximum number—involved collisions with trucks, resulting in 41 fatalities and 10 injuries. Similar to the previous example, 23 traffic accidents involving trailer collisions resulted in 20 fatalities and 15 injuries.
Due to collisions with water tankers, a total of 21 accidents occurred, resulting in 14 fatalities and 16 injuries. The same is true for 17 accidents involving dumpers, which resulted in 15 fatalities and 8 injuries, and 17 accidents involving oil tankers, which resulted in 15 fatalities and 19 injuries.
The collision with the buses resulted in a total of 14 traffic accidents, 12 of which resulted in fatalities and four in injuries. In addition, 12 people lost their lives and 31 were hurt in 16 accidents caused by collisions with minibuses, and 5 people lost their lives in 8 accidents caused by collisions with coaches.
The data indicates that 23 traffic accidents involving car and jeep collisions resulted in 19 fatalities and 16 injuries. As a result of the collision with unknown vehicles, 20 people were killed and 5 were injured in a total of 20 traffic accidents.
Up to 10 accidents involving motorcycle collisions resulted in four fatalities and five injuries. Similar to this, ten traffic accidents using Suzuki trucks resulted in six fatalities and nine other injuries. The majority of traffic accident reports involve victims on motorcycles.
According to the data, 110 out of 141 motorcycle-related traffic accidents that occurred during the current year were fatal, resulting in 130 people losing their lives and 84 others being injured.
During the last 24 hours, at least eight people were killed and 962 were injured in 914 road accidents across all 37 districts of Punjab.
577 people were seriously injured and taken to various hospitals, while 385 people with minor injuries were treated on the spot by rescue medical teams. Once again, Lahore remained at the top in reporting highest number of accidents.
According to the findings, 450 drivers, 27 underage drivers, 104 pedestrians, and 388 passengers were killed in traffic accidents. The road accidents involved a considerable number of two-wheelers as it involved 807 motorcycles, 82 auto-rickshaws, 74 motorcars, 22 vans, 11 buses, 17 trucks, and 100 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts.
Considering the statistics, 239 road accidents were reported in Lahore, affecting 238 people, putting the provincial capital at the top of the list, followed by 80 in Faisalabad with 85 victims and 53 in Multan with 50 victims.
American actor Alec Baldwin accidentally fired a prop gun on a New Mexico film set, a woman has died and a man has been injured.
As per details, the woman, Halyna Hutchins, was flown to hospital by helicopter but died of her injuries. The man, director Joel Souza, was receiving emergency care.
A spokesperson for Baldwin told AP news agency the incident involved the misfiring of a prop gun with blanks.
Hutchins, 42, was working on the set as director of photography. Souza, 48, was taken from the scene by ambulance, but details of his injuries have not been disclosed.
Police are still investigating the incident at Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location, and no charges have been filed.
In a statement to AFP news agency, a Santa Fe sheriff spokesman said Mr Baldwin had spoken to detectives.
“He came in voluntarily and he left the building after he finished his interviews,” the spokesman said.
According to her personal website, Hutchins was from Ukraine and grew up on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle. She studied journalism in Kyiv, and film in Los Angeles, and was named a “rising star” by the American Cinematographer magazine in 2019.
She was the director of photography for the 2020 action film Archenemy, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer.
“I’m so sad about losing Halyna. And so infuriated that this could happen on a set,” Mortimer said in a tweet.
At least three people were killed, while around 23 others sustained injuries in a blast in Johar Town, Lahore. The explosion took place in a residential area near Allah Hu Boulevard, police said.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riaz Malik said while it was not immediately clear what had caused the blast, it had left behind a crater. “We will only be able to determine the cause after carrying out an investigation,” he said, adding that the area was being cordoned off.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police has said that the Johar Town blast was a terrorist attack and as per the initial investigation the enforcement/police agencies may have been the target.
According to reports, rescue, police, and bomb disposal teams have reached the site of the incident, while witnesses said that the glass windows of nearby houses and buildings have been shattered. One of the buildings has been severely damaged and some vehicles parked at the site of the blast have also been affected.
An emergency has been declared in Jinnah Hospital to treat the injured, while Rescue 1122 and other relief organisations have been asked to expedite rescue activities.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the blast, and directed the IG to investigate the incident and submit a report.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid also took notice and directed the Punjab chief secretary and IG to submit a report. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Asim Azhar, Shahid Afridi and Farhan Saeed have raised their voice against Israel and their atrocities against the people of Palestine. They spoke up after reports came in that more than 200 Palestinians were wounded late on Friday outside the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem. Israeli police fired rubber-coated metal bullets and stun grenades at innocent Palestinians.
“I am sickened and disgusted,” wrote Asim on Twitter. “How can you attack a place of worship and attack defenceless worshippers?”
“And yet again, the world will stay silent on Israel’s continuous oppression on Palestine. Ya Allah reham,” he added.
Former Pakistan Cricket team captain Shahid Afridi also condemned the atrocities and said that the walls of Al-Aqsa Mosque are on the floor, with Palestinian blood, and my eyes are red with tears of helplessness.
“The global conscience is sleeping wrapped in a blanket of indifference. Perhaps the blood of Muslims is so disrespectful that no voice will be raised and no campaign will be launched, he added.
“First Qibla [Al-Aqsa Mosque], we are unable to pay off the debt of your sanctity.
Similarly, Saeed wrote,”The world’s deafening silence is criminal! How can the international community sit back and watch this happen?”
“This is terrorism,” remarked the singer.
Tens of thousands of worshippers had earlier packed Islam’s third-holiest site on the final Friday of Ramzan and many stayed on to protest against Israeli plans to evict Palestinian families from their homes on land claimed by Jewish settlers in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of East Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Palestinians have also staged a series of sit-ins in the area in recent days denouncing Israeli orders for them to vacate their homes. Israeli security forces have attacked the sit-ins using skunk water, tear gas, rubber-coated bullets and shock grenades. Dozens of Palestinians have been arrested.
Violence erupted on Friday when Israeli police deployed heavily as Muslims were performing evening prayers at Al-Aqsa during the holy month of Ramzan.
Sheikh Jarrah’s residents are overwhelmingly Palestinian, but the neighbourhood also contains a site revered by religious Jews. The site is known to be the tomb of an ancient high priest, Simeon the Just.
As per details, the Sheikh Jarrah cause has escalated over the past week but it is not a new issue.
Jewish settler organisations filed a lawsuit in the 1970s claiming the area belonged to Jews originally, and seeking the expulsion of Palestinian families living there since 1956.
These families, refugees from the 1948 Nakba, eventually settled in Sheikh Jarrah under an agreement between Jordan and the UN refugee agency.
The Israeli district court ruled that four families – al-Kurd, Iskafi, Qassim and Jaouni – must leave their homes for settlers to take over, or reach an agreement with these settler organisations by paying rent and recognising them as landlords.
The families refused and the court postponed the final verdict to Monday.
