Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ahmed shared how he met Mirza in New York while preparing for his latest film.
“She’s an amazing novelist. We met so randomly while I was preparing for this role, for Sound Of Metal when I was in New York,” said the 38-year-old actor. “We both sat down at the same table in the cafe where we both turned up to write. We were both jostling over the same laptop plug points, like a very modern way of meeting.”
“And we struck up a friendship and reconnected down the line. But it’s weirdly like one of the many things about preparing for this role that was so special, it just brought a lot of goodness into my life,” he continued.
“Obviously I met Fatima for the first time and met so many people in the deaf community that have become friends. There’s just something about this whole period around this film that was kind of life-changing,” he added.
Ahmed had first revealed that he was married during a BBC podcast Grounded With Louis Theroux. In the podcast, the actor had shared that he hadn’t been married for “very long” and is currently residing in North California because that’s where his wife’s family is from.

“I don’t really feel it’s generally that relevant [his private life], so I don’t delve into my personal life or dating history. I guess I don’t feel like it’s that necessary to go, ‘Hey, here’s everything that’s happening in my life’,” he added.
Ahmed recently won the Best Actor award at the Gotham Awards for his performance in Sound Of Metal. In his acceptance speech, Riz paid a rich tribute to the late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, by quoting a lesson Khan gave to his son Babil.

He added, “Not only are you feeding wrong piece of information to your audience but also you may create a rift between people am friends with.”
Later, the actor also issued a detailed statement on Instagram in which he further expressed his anger.
“First of all, you’ve made news out of the interview which was done three to four years back and then even quoted me wrongly,” said the actor.
He then clarified what actually happened.
“I didn’t face any discrimination during the shoot. When I’d gone to shoot in Pune, on the first day I stayed in a different hotel. But when I told the production team who was I etc, the very next day they moved me to Taj.”
“From the second day till the shoot was over, I stayed at the Taj where Angelina Jolie and the late Irrfan Khan were also staying,” added the actor.

“There was an India-Pakistan match. I was very young. Zaheer Abbas was there. I went to take his autograph. That was the first time as I never took autographs from anybody in my life. He just looked at me… and I felt so humiliated. I felt really bad,” said the late actor. “I was a Zaheer Abbas and Imran Khan fan.”

Saba said that her on-set memories with the late actor were all about “fun conversations.”
“There was never a dull moment when he was around. We used to crack jokes with each other all the time. He always used to make me learn new things and give pro tips on life,” she said, adding that he was also very philosophical.
Recalling one her fondest memories with him, Saba shared that on their first meeting, Irrfan sang a song for her.
“When I entered the room where he was sitting, he started singing the song Badan Pe Sitaray…for me. I’ll always cherish the entire time I’ve spent with him.”
Saba further said that she wished that “things were better between our countries.”
“I am of the belief that acting is a form of blended art that shouldn’t be restricted to a particular type or even a country. It should be assorted in such a way that even we enjoy it and so do our fans and audiences. It is this assortment which I miss. I’d love to do more movies for my fans if I get any opportunity.”
