  • Islamabad Traffic Police creates special squads to curb road stunts, one-wheeling

    Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has constituted special squads to prevent one-wheeling and road stunts in the federal capital.

    The special squads were created on the orders of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Muhammad Ahsan Younis to control one-wheeling, car racing, and rash driving, which endangers not only the offenders’ lives but also many other motorists.

    Various ITP units and special squads would conduct continuous patrolling operations at different spots of the metropolis, particularly on 7th Avenue, 9th Avenue, Margalla Road, Kashmir Highway, Islamabad Expressway, and Murree Road, and take action against motorists who engage in dangerous road stunts.

    The police officers and squads in these regions would maintain intensified watch, prohibiting young folks from being involved in dangerous actions.

    SSP Traffic, Rai Mazhar Iqbal stated that one-wheelers and rash drivers would face severe punishment. He urged parents to keep a close eye on their children and not allow them to play stunts on the roadways, endangering their lives.

    One-wheeler’s bikes will be seized, according to the SSP Traffic, while heavy fine tickets will also be issued to them.

  • Over 14,000 unlicensed drivers penalised in Islamabad

    As many as 14,489 motorists driving cars or riding bikes without a license have so far been fined by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) in 2020.

    According to an ITP spokesperson, the department is currently on a mission to ensure vehicular discipline and take strict action against motorists who neglect traffic rules. He added that the fine tickets are issued not as a punitive measure, but to enable citizens to respect traffic laws and contribute to road safety.

    The reports suggest that the police department has also started an awareness campaign to sensitise motorists to the importance of traffic laws. The authorities are aiming to control illegal activities like driving without a licence, one-wheeling, careless driving, risky stunts, and ensuring lane discipline.

    ASSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed said that the ITP personnel will continue their efforts to ensure road safety in the capital. In his statement, he urged people to cooperate with the ITP to make Islamabad accident-free.

    In a bid to curb vehicular tragedies, the Road Safety Council of Pakistan (RSCP) has been established to ensure the prevention of road accidents, through the dissemination of information and coordination with various relevant departments to lessen the risks associated with on-road commutes.

    RSCP Chairman Irfan Baloch has said that the main objective of the council is to reduce traffic crashes and injuries by generating awareness about road safety and build a sense of responsibility in people.

    “We want to save precious lives through the prevention of road traffic accidents, and we strongly believe that all road crashes are preventable.”

  • DIG suspends traffic warden for making TikTok video while on duty

    An official of Islamabad Traffic Police was suspended for allegedly making a TikTok video during duty hours. Director Inspector General (DIG) Security/Traffic Islamabad, Sarfaraz Falaki suspended the traffic policeman and ordered an inquiry into the matter.

    According to details, Constable Yasir Aftab was on duty in Islamabad when he allegedly made a video while wearing a police uniform in an official vehicle and posted it on TikTok.

    Officials of Islamabad police immediately took action against Aftab after the video surfaced on social media and suspended the officer for violating rules and regulations of the force.

    Superintendent Police (SP) Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), Khalid Rashid revealed that Aftab had been on leave but has been called in for the inquiry.

    According to the spokesperson, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police Chief, Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan had ordered all the officers to stay away from social media while on duty.
