    Man arrested for blackmailing and assaulting couple in Islamabad

    Police arrested Usman Mirza in Islamabad after a disturbing video went viral on social media where he could be seen torturing and assaulting a couple. He was also seen stripping a woman in the video.

    The video sparked outrage across Pakistani Twitter, with #ArrestUsmanMirza appearing in the top trends.

    The incident took place within Golra police station limits at an apartment building in sector E-11/2. The case was registered on the complaint of a sub-inspector.

    “The video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, five to six men can be seen keeping the victims in custody under gunpoint. The accused also stripped the man and the woman naked while threatening them,” the FIR said, adding that the suspects indulged in “vulgar acts”.

    Islamabad Deputy Commissioner said that the culprit had been arrested after police efforts. “His accomplices are also being arrested. It is once again requested to please delete the videos which show the victims,” he said.

    Later, the deputy commissioner said that all the suspects had been arrested.

    Mirza reportedly threatened the young man and woman when some people tried to stop him.

    Mirza is reportedly a property dealer.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Maleeka Bokhari tweeted that the Islamabad IG is leading the investigation.

    “I have received numerous messages of women feeling unsafe and angry. The State is here to protect you & will not spare such barbarians,” Bokhari wrote.

    Journalist Reem Khurshid asked people not to post or reshare the video. She tweeted, “The young woman and man were subjected to a horrific assault. “Don’t compound their trauma by circulating images of what is likely one of the worst moments of their lives.”

    PM Khan announces Pakistan’s biggest cricket stadium in Islamabad

    Prime Minister Imran Khan directed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani to lead the plan to build the country’s biggest cricket stadium in Islamabad.

    As per reports, Mani met Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Amir Ali Ahmed in this regard on Thursday to discuss the roadmap for building the biggest stadium in Pakistan.

    The stadium will have state-of-the-art High-Performance Centre.

    CDA’s land, planning, and development department have completed the survey for the stadium. A complete report will be presented to PM Khan by next month. After PM’s approval, the stadium will be built in partnership with the public and private sectors.

    According to PCB’s director of High-Performance, Nadeem Khan, this stadium will be the biggest stadium in Asia with high-class facilities.

    “This is a great initiative by PM and we are looking forward to contributing our role in it. PCB is in touch with CDA for planning the establishment of Islamabad International Cricket Stadium,” he said.

    Nadeem also shared that there is a plan to increase sitting capacity inside the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in the near future.

    PM Khan visited the Korang Cricket Ground and reviewed the pace of work there as he promised other stadiums for young blood.

    An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday evening, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre website.

    There were no immediate reports of casualties or loss of property.

    According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake struck 25 kilometres southeast of Mingora in KP and had a depth of 20 km.

    Twitterati began reporting the tremors they had felt.

    Federal budget to be presented today

    All eyes will be on the National Assembly today (Friday) as the federal budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 will be presented in the lower house of parliament.

    According to Radio Pakistan, the federal cabinet will meet in Islamabad today to discuss and approve budget proposals. Prime Minister Imran Khan will preside over the meeting.

    Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, who presented the Pakistan Economic Survey 2020-21 a day earlier, will unveil the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s budget. The session will begin at 4:00pm.

    The upcoming budget for the new fiscal year is likely to be pro-growth with an overall focus on increasing expenditures.

    At least 25 children in Islamabad were taken to a nearby hospital after they fainted due to intense heat on Wednesday. 

    As per reports, students of a school in Islamabad’s Bara Kahu area suffered due to the scorching heat and power outage. The nose of the students started bleeding after which their teachers poured water over their heads and took them to a nearby health facility for first aid.

    After the incident, 200 school children were allowed to go home from the Federal Government School due to loadsheding.

    Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy took to Twitter and announced that the power shortfall has increased to 1,500 Mega Watt (MW) and the citizens are requested to use the electricity sensibly.

    Pakistani celebrities have been very vocal about the atrocities of Israel on Palestinians. They came out with hundreds of people in Lahore and Islamabad to March in solidarity with the Palestinians on Monday.

    Fakhr-e-Alam escapes fatal accident

    Television host and actor Fakhar-e-Alam has escaped a fatal car accident unhurt.

    Sharing the horrific experience on social media, Alam said: “Without question, Allah is the greatest protector of them all. I have just survived what could have been easily a fatal accident while on my [way] to to Hum News Pakistan for filming.”

    “These trucks become killing machines in the hands of unlicensed drivers,” said Alam further, adding that Islamabad Capital Territory Police is handling the case.

    Later, in a series of tweets, the 45-year-old actor detailed the entire incident.

    “It was a close call to what would have been most certainly a fatal accident. This milk truck from Chiniot without indication made a U-turn from the far out lane forcing our vehicle to take evasive measure missing the truck, hitting the divider and ending up on the other side,” said Alam.

    “Once tossed to the other side we narrowly missed oncoming traffic,” he shared further. “The fact that the driver and I have walked away alive is nothing short of a miracle. These truck operators without proper training are allowed on our roads endangering all of us and our loved ones.”

    “I am grateful to Allah that I will once again get to see my children but there are many who have never returned home because of extremely poor road safety & dangerous drivers. Tonight I followed up with Islamabad Police to do whatever was possible legally to stop this driver,” Alam added.

    Alam shared that the traffic warden, who was an eye witness stated that the truck driver was wrong. “The driver had no ID card, no license. All I want is for Islamabad Police to make sure he never drives again & endanger anyone else’s life. He wrote a confession & maafinama, I just don’t want any family to be a victim of his,” Alam said.

    He also urged people to report such drivers, saying: “Please report dangerous drivers, please wear a belt, it saved my life today and above all the law enforcement must not allow for such irresponsible people to drive on our roads. The truck is now at Aabpara police station. What happens next we will all be watching.”

    Alam is recently in Islamabad, filming a project with Hum News/Hum Network.

    Meanwhile, in one of his tweets, Alam had revealed that he will be sharing studios with five gold medalists of Cambrian Patrol Britain, world’s toughest & largest military competition with 140 teams each year.

    He said: “I will be bringing you the story of this league of extra ordinary gentlemen very soon with Hum Network.”

    According to him, this will be a “very special project” and “a big filming project,” presumably airing on Hum News/Hum Network.
