Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan have reportedly met in London.

As per media reports, Aleem met Nawaz on Wednesday for three hours. Former finance minister Ishaq Dar and Nawaz Sharif’s sons also attended the meeting.

Sources privy to the matter have revealed that Nawaz and Khan have decided to work together.

Aleem left for London on Wednesday to meet Jahangir Khan Tareen and Nawaz Sharif. It was reported that Aleem would discuss the future course of action with Tareen for the group as the Opposition has submitted the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

Moreover, reports of differences between the Tareen group and Aleem Khan have also come to the surface.

In a report published in The News, it was revealed: “Jahangir Khan Tareen is avoiding meeting Aleem Khan because he is facing pressure from some hard-line members of his group. As such, there has been no contact between Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan. The hard-line members of the Tareen group believe that joining hands with the Aleem Khan group was tantamount to hijacking the Tareen group.”

PM Khan slams SCBA for ‘supporting criminals, fugitives’

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday slammed the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) over its decision to file a petition against lifelong disqualification.

PM Khan said that one of the leading lawyers’ bodies in the country has gone to court for a “thief” who ran to London by “lying”.

PM Khan, without taking the name of former PM Nawaz Sharif, said, “If this is how things are, then what is wrong with stealing?”

“They [SCBA] are asking the court to give him [Nawaz Sharif] one more chance. SCBA’s next petition should be to open [the doors] of all the jails,” said PM Khan while addressing the launch ceremony of the Sehat Insaf Card in Bahawalpur.

Referring to the criminals who were behind bars, the premier said: “If you don’t see the evil in it, then why are these poor souls behind bars? First, let them out… The next petition should be to open all jails and free all those people who have been imprisoned for theft.”

PM Khan further said that only the powerful get away unpunished. “They can do whatever they want. Both his sons are… living in London in properties worth billions of rupees. London is the most expensive city in Europe and their properties are located in the most expensive parts of the city.”

“Till a nation does not unite to fight [against wrongdoing], the rule of law will not prevail. Our struggle is against bandits,” said PM Imran.

When asked about PM Khan’s comments about the petition, President SCBA Mohammad Ahsan Bhoon responded by narrating an incident about humans.

Last week, the SCBA filed a petition against the lifelong disqualification of lawmakers and said that such a law without the right to appeal is unjust.

It is pertinent to mention here that the result of this petition can affect the outcome of SC verdicts disqualifying Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen.

SCBA president files petition against lifetime disqualification in SC

President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Mohammad Ahsan Bhoon on Thursday filed a petition against the lifelong disqualification of lawmakers and said that such a law without the right to appeal is unjust.

The petition asks the Supreme Court (SC) to rule that the declaration by a court of law under Article 62(1)(f) only applies to the election under question, and does not entail a perpetual or lifetime bar on contesting future elections, reports Dawn.

The petition argues that the lack of clarity regarding the procedure for a declaration under Article 62(1)(f) continues to pose an obstacle to the constitutional protection of citizens under Article 17(2), which allows citizens to form or become a member of any political party.

It is pertinent to mention here that the result of this petition can affect the outcome of SC verdicts disqualifying former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen.

The two were disqualified as lawmakers in judgements rendered in the Panama Papers case on July 28, 2017, and the Hanif Abbasi case on Dec 15, 2017, respectively.

The contents of the petition said that the principle of lifetime disqualification should only be applied to electoral disputes. Under Article 184/3 of the Constitution, the SC cannot act as a trial court and there is no right to appeal against the decisions made by the apex court, which contradicts the principles of justice.

The petition said that the lifelong disqualification without the right to appeal is unjust to the voters.

When a reporter asked If Tareen’s plane could ever go towards the PML-N, Tareen responded by saying “Jahaz tou hur jagah ja sakta hai [The plane can go anywhere]”.

Jahangir Tareen was all smiles when the reporter asked him about joining PML-N, to which PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq said that “whether it was Jahangir Tareen or some other PTI leader, everyone except Imran Khan are smiling.”

  • Fawad tells Shahzeb to talk to the mirror, Shahzeb tells him to go to a comedy show

Fawad tells Shahzeb to talk to the mirror, Shahzeb tells him to go to a comedy show

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had a fiery exchange of words while conversing with anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada on Geo News’ political talk show, ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’.

The issue under discussion was the allegation of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member, Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed, who claimed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s monthly household expenses were once catered by PTI’s disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen.

Khanzada while asking questions in relevance to the comments of Justice Wajihuddin could not get a clear answer from the minister, leading to a fiery exchange of words.

“If you have to talk continuously, you can sit in front of the mirror and talk,” Fawad told Khanzada.

Fawad told Khanzada that he doesn’t let him speak while Khanzada interjected and said that Fawad goes off-topic and said “I am looking for an answer, you start making a speech.”

Responding to Khanzada’s comments said, “There is a context and background to questions. If you say something out of context it will turn out ridiculous, just like our questions [regarding Justice Wajih’s allegations] are ridiculous.”

“You are finding the questions ridiculous because they are based on reality, and you trying to interpret them as such. If you want to do comedy, I will tell you to go to Khabarnaak which [airs] at 11 o’clock. This is a serious show, give us answers seriously,” responded Khanzada.

“You think your programme is serious, maybe others have a different point of view regarding this,” said Fawad.

Khanzada responded, “We have called you may be that is the reason you are finding [my show] a comedy show but trust me it’s a serious [political talk] show. Now that you are the information minister we have called you, otherwise, it’s a serious show.”

Twitterati reacted to this rather interesting exchange of words.

‘Set the record straight’: Jahangir Tareen responds to allegations of giving PM Khan pocket money

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen, clears the air on the allegations levelled towards him of bearing the expenses for Bani Gala, the residential place of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

Jahangir took to Twitter and wrote, “Regardless of the current status of my relationship with Imran Khan, the truth must be told. I did whatever was in my capacity to help PTI in the quest to build a new Pakistan.”

“I never gave a penny for the household expenses of Bani Gala. Just want to set the record straight,” tweeted Jahangir.

Earlier, former PTI leader, Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed, claimed that PM Khan’s monthly household expenses were once catered by Tareen.

Wajihuddin revealed that Tareen initially gave funds worth Rs3 million per month for Imran Khan’s household expenses, which was later increased to Rs5 million per month.

Speaking further about the honesty of the premier, Wajihuddin said that the notion about Imran Khan being an honest man is “completely wrong”.

“This belief is entirely false that Imran Khan is a [financially] honest man,” Wajihuddin said. “His condition is such that he hasn’t been running his household himself for years.”

‘PM Khan needed 30 lakhs and then 50 lakhs from PTI to run his home’, claims former PTI member, Fawad refutes

A former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member, Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed, recently claimed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s monthly household expenses were once catered by PTI’s disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen. He made the claim while speaking on Bol news’ programme ‘Tabdeeli’.

“This belief is entirely false that Imran Khan is a [financially] honest man,” Ahmed said. “His condition is such that he hasn’t been running his household himself for years.”

He further said certain people within the party would try to outdo each other in footing the bills for things like keeping Imran’s car fuel tank and “keeping his pocket full at all times”.

Recalling the statement of another party member without revealing the name, Wajihuddin said, “The man who doesn’t even pay for his shoelaces, how can you call that man honest?”

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday, responding to the claims of retired Justice, called him a “buffoon”.

“Such buffoons roam around trying to seek importance in media by making such allegations. These people are not even given respect in their own homes, therefore please do not give importance to them,” the minister told media persons.

Special Assistant to PM for Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill rubbished Ahmed’s claim as “completely false and illogical”.

“Whoever knows Imran Khan, knows his honesty and dignity. Wajih sahib often makes illogical remarks such as these in despair over being expelled from the party,” he tweeted.
