    Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has predicted that the incumbent government, led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), will last only two more months.

    Inside Rawalpindi Adiala’s jail, the former Prime Minister told journalists, ‘’The government is plunging into a quagmire; however, the rulers are fools and unable to understand this.’’

    ’I am predicting this from prison that this government has only two more months.’’
    He also said he has enough time, but the incumbent rulers are running out of time.

    Earlier, Imran offered to negotiate with the stakeholders in power by selecting Chief Milli Awami Party (MAP) Mahmood Khan Achakzai from his side.

    Alvi wants people from both sides of country to forgive each other

    Former president and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Dr Arif Alvi said on Wednesday that people from both sides of the political spectrum should forgive each other. This can be seen as an indirect message to the ‘poweful circles’ regarding the violent protests that occurred last on May 9.

    He gave this statement while talking to journalists after visiting an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, where he met multiple PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omer Sarfraz Cheema, and Ejaz Chaudhary.

    On May 9 last year, law enforcement agencies arrested PTI founding chairman Imran Khan for the first time in connection with a corruption case, triggering violent riots across the country in which several installations of the security establishment were attacked.

    Arif Alvi assured PTI leaders during the meeting that they don’t need to worry about the cases as the people of Pakistan are with them.

    PTI senior woman leader Dr Yasmeen Rashid told Alvi to convey her message to PTI founder Imran Khan that she is happy despite facing multiple challenges in jail.

    The Rawalpindi Police have arrested a man from the Jatali area for posting pictures with weapons on social media, The News reported on Wednesday.

    The police arrested the suspect named Naqash because people were scared and worried about him sharing content about weapons.

    SP (Saddar) Muhammad Nabil Khokhar said the man will face strict action, adding that this is a clear message that those who use social media platforms to spread fear and terror will be held accountable.

    ‘You’re asking the cat who drank the cream’; Fawad Chaudhry jokes about PM’s inquiry commission

    Former federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has quipped that the commission to investigate the six judges’ letter is akin to “asking a cat to investigate who has drank the milk.”

    Chaudhry had been detained by authorities on graft charges since November 2023. His office page on X, formerly Twitter, posted the video of him being presented to the court for a hearing where he gave the humorous remarks about the inquiry commission.

    On Tuesday, six judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC) wrote an explosive letter to Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) alleging egregious meddling by the executive, including spy agencies, in judicial affairs. Following this, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.

    It was decided that the PM would constitute an inquiry commission headed by a retired judge to probe into the allegations levelled against intelligence agencies.

    An Iranian court has sentenced a police chief in northern Iran to death after he was charged with killing a man during mass protests in 2022, local media reported Wednesday.

    Local police chief Jafar Javanmardi was arrested in December 2022 over the killing of a protester during the widespread demonstrations sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in custody.

    Iranian Kurd Amini, 22, died in custody in September that year following her arrest for allegedly violating the country’s strict dress code for women.

    Javanmardi was sentenced to death “in accordance with the Islamic law of retribution, known as the ‘qisas’ law, on the charge of premeditated murder”, the lawyer for the victim’s family, Majid Ahmadi, told the reformist Shargh daily.

    The protestor, Mehran Samak, 27, succumbed to injuries he sustained after being hit by shotgun pellets during a rally in the northern city of Bandar Anzali on November 30, 2022.

    Rights groups based outside of Iran said Samak was shot dead by Iranian security forces after honking his car horn in celebration of Iran’s loss to the United States in the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar while at the Amini protest.

    The defeat eliminated Iran from the football tournament and drew a mixed response from government supporters and opponents.

    The lawyer, Ahmadi, said at the time that the police official was charged with “violating the rules for firearms usage, resulting in the death of Samak”.

    In mid-January, the judiciary’s Mizan Online website said the Supreme Court had annulled a death sentence and referred the case to another court.

    Gilan province, where Bandar Anzali is located, was a flashpoint of the nationwide protest movement that shook Iran.

    Hundreds of people were killed during the months-long protests, including dozens of security forces, while thousands were arrested and nine men were executed in cases linked to the demonstrations.

    The newly-elected Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, broke her fast on Sunday with prisoners of the central jail in Lahore in Kot Lakhpath. She visited the prisoners in jail, after having been imprisoned there herself in the past.

    Videos released by her party showed her taking iftar with prisoners, giving them gifts and clothes, and providing Rs 15,000 in monetary assistance. 

    People on X (previously Twitter) appreciated that Maryam Nawaz extended her support to prisoners in jail. However, some people are also criticising the iftar as a publicity venture, stating that putting up banners of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in jail is wrong.

    A video shared by Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb showed the CM Maryam visiting different sections of the jail and planting a tree in the garden on the occasion. Besides meeting the prison officials, Maryam also spoke to the prisoners and asked about their issues and problems.

    Biryani, samosas, pakoras, fruits, and other savoury items were included in Iftar’s menu.

    Earlier, Maryam Nawaz inaugurated a 20-bed hospital for drug addicts inside the prison.

    Japan’s justice ministry next month will allow male prisoners to have face lotion and hair conditioner, which women inmates may already use, in light of changing gender norms, an official said Wednesday.

    Under previous rules, the in-prison purchase and gift acceptance of the toiletry items were allowed only for female inmates, based on the notion that those items tend to be used by women.

    But the ministry notified prisons nationwide this month that men will be able to obtain those products too under revised rules, a justice ministry official told AFP.

    “It is our view that steps are increasingly being taken in Japanese society towards eliminating unreasonable gender gaps”, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

    “We felt it is necessary to treat prison inmates in a way that would better reflect the changing landscapes of outside society”, the official added.

    The new rules will take effect beginning next month, he said.

    Still, some items will remain off-limits to men, including hair bands and women’s sanitary products, the ministry said, adding shampoo and handkerchiefs have long been accessible regardless of gender.

    Speaking to the media after paying a visit to Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan said her brother is doing just fine.

    “There is a glow on his face,” she said. “He has finished the Quran four times by now.”

    Aleema said Imran Khan has read a lot of books in jail and that he is “gaining a lot of knowledge”.

    When a reporter referred to the conflicting claims regarding Khan’s health and statements issued by his lawyers, Aleema laughingly said that there is no contradiction and it’s just that while losing weight and body fat is considered ‘healthy’, some people think it’s unhealthy and the other person has gotten ‘weak’.

    A reporter asked that his opponents are claiming Imran Khan is ‘breaking’, Aleema responded: “Go read up on hybrid warfare.”

    “You all are saying that Imran Khan has gotten weak, that’s not how it is.”

    “All prisoners are allowed to walk and exercise in prison according to international law. They thought that by disallowing him (Imran Khan) of these liberties, he would break.”

    She indirectly alluded to his opponents, saying that they should give up because Khan “will not break no matter how many false stories you publish”.

    Claim: Multiple journalists including Sami Abraham and Sabir Shakir have implied in their tweets that Imran Khan is being held in a derelict jail cell, complete with a picture of a dark jail cell.

    Sara Taseer, daughter of late Governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer, also took to X (formerly Twitter) on October 1, writing:

    “This is what you call “zameen tang”. This inhumane treatment for the man you has given so much for the name fame betterment for #Pakistan I’m so ashamed to call myself Pakistani today. I never thought I’d ever feel this way. #ImranFightingForPakistan”

    The picture of the cell was quite disturbing, with peeling paint, a dark interior and derelict walls.

    Journalist Sami Abraham also tweeted the same picture.

    However, this is not actually Imran Khan’s cell.

    The cell picture shared by these accounts is actually in Missouri, from a now-closed facility where prisoners on suicide watch were detained.

    The details of a report submitted to the Supreme Court (SC) regarding the facilities available in Attock Jail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, who was arrested after his conviction in the Toshakhana case, have come to light.

    On the orders of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial, the Attorney General submitted a report to the apex court regarding the facilities provided to the PTI Chairman in jail.

    The report states that Chairman PTI has been kept in the most secure high observation block in Attock Jail and the adjoining barracks of Chairman PTI have also been kept vacant.

    Chairman PTI is kept in a barrack measuring 9 by 11, the wall of the washroom of Chairman PTI is 6 feet high and the size of the washroom is 7 by 4. The walls of Khan’s washroom have also been plastered and distempered. 

    The report states that being a prisoner of a better class, Chairman PTI has also been given the facility of mattress, air cooler, four pillows, a table and a chair. Apart from this, Imran Khan has also been provided with four English translations of the Holy Quran and 25 historical books.

    The Attorney General’s report states that Khan has been provided with a 21-inch TV and a daily newspaper; he is also provided with staff for the check-in barracks, washrooms and cleaning of clothes, and additional 54 officers have been assigned duty in jail for his security.

    The report states that according to the law, the prisoner’s family can meet for two to three hours on Tuesday, while the prisoner’s lawyers can meet for two to three hours on Wednesday. Khan’s wife and lawyers have met him three times. Chairman PTI is examined by a team of five doctors.

    It also states that Imran Khan is served desi chicken cooked in desi ghee on his request and is also provided mutton prepared in desi ghee.

    The PTI chief has been provided better class facilities in jail, the report stated, adding that the suspect has been given all the facilities according to the jail manual, rules and law.

    Imran Khan is allowed to walk in the corridor in front of the jail, as per the report.
