‘You have your ex to blame’: Maryam Nawaz responds to Jemima

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz responded to Jemima Goldsmith’s tweet where she called out Maryam for her anti-semitic comments regarding her sons.

“I have absolutely no interest in you [Jemima], your sons, or your personal lives.”

“I [Maryam] have better things to do and say, but if your ex [Imran Khan] drags in families of others out of spite, others will have nastier things to say,” responded Maryam Nawaz.

She further wrote, “You have only your ex to blame.”

Jemima Khan on Tuesday had lashed out against Maryam Nawaz for saying that her [Jemima’s] children were “being raised in the lap of the Jews”. She said that she left Pakistan 17 years ago, “after a decade of antisemitic attacks by the media and politicians (and weekly death threats and protests outside my house). But still it continues.”

Maryam Nawaz made the following statement after PM Imran Khan took a jibe at her son, Junaid Safdar.

  • ‘The onus is on men’: Jemima schools Imran on rape

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s former wife Jemima Goldsmith has schooled him on the topic of rape, saying that the “onus is on men”. PM Imran in an interactive session with the public on Sunday had blamed rising rape cases on “vulgarity” when asked what his government is doing to curb the surge in rape cases and sexual violence, especially against children.

Pakistanis had strongly criticised the premier and told him that rape is an act of violence and has nothing to do with the way a person dresses.

PM Khan’s words made it to international publications and now Jemima has criticised him for his remarks.

Sharing a report, Jemima quoted an ayat with which she wrote: “The onus is on men.”

Goldsmith added: “I’m hoping this is a misquote/ mistranslation. The Imran I knew used to say, ‘Put a veil on the man’s eyes not on the woman’.”

Responding to Jemima’s comments, Focal Person to the Prime Minister on Digital Media Dr Arslan Khalid said that PM Khan “never engaged in victim blaming”.

DailyMail has misinterpreted his comments about purdah which in Islam is for both male and female,” said Dr Khalid. “Rest he talked about how society must act against trends that harmfully influence young minds and turn them into sexual predators.”

Dr Khalid also shut down other media outlets and said that they are reporting a “total misrepresentation of what he said.”

Later, a spokesperson of the government said that misperceptions are being created about PM Khan’s comment regarding the incidence of rape in the country.

The spokesperson said that while expressing deep concern about it, the Prime Minister spoke about the societal responses and the need to put our efforts together to eliminate the menace of rape completely. Unfortunately, part of his comment, consciously or unconsciously, has been distorted to mean something that he never intended.

The statement further said: “The Prime Minister said that our strict anti-rape laws alone will not be able to stem the rise in sex crimes. The whole society has to fight it together including lowering exposure to temptation.”

“Prime Minister emphasised a holistic solution with the society and the stringent legal remedies, which are already in place, working together to eliminate the scourge. Plucking a line out of the statement would always distort the perspective and would not serve the narrative of the actual comment.”

“PM Imran Khan remains fully committed to utilise all avenues at the government’s disposal to tackle the incidence of rape. He believes that all of us have a role to play in the fight and hoped that we would do so,” concluded the statement.

Meanwhile, Pakistanis have all sorts of reactions to Jemima’s statements with some asking her if she still loves PM Khan and others rallying for her to become Prime Minister.

  • Jemima is in love with Princess Diana ‘all over again’ after watching ‘The Crown’

Jemima is in love with Princess Diana ‘all over again’ after watching ‘The Crown’

More than two decades after her death, Princess Diana’s ill-fated entry into the British royal family is the main storyline in the long-awaited fourth season of the hit Netflix drama The Crown, which released on the streaming platform the past weekend.

The season has already begun to trend and is currently at number three on Netflix Pakistan. Jemima Goldsmith, who was a close friend of Princess Diana, praised the season and actor Emma Corrin for portraying Diana brilliantly.

“Emma Corrin has captured all the magic of shy Di,” wrote Jemima on social media.

“Prepare to fall in love with Princess Diana all over again,” she added.

Later, when a Twitter user commented that Corrin’s voice was “spookily accurate”, Jemima agreed with her.

Goldsmith also praised Tom Brooke for his performance.

The series shows Diana as a naive teenager who quickly becomes lonely in the role of Prince Charles’ fiancee and rollerskates around Buckingham Palace to pass the time. While the previous series depicted Charles as a sensitive and misunderstood boy, as Diana’s husband he is seen as cold and unfaithful, complaining to Camilla [Parker-Bowles] that she is “so weak, so fragile”.

The love triangle is one of the main storylines in the fourth season, which covers the late 1970s and the 1980s.

The scriptwriters also dramatise a notorious incident that year in which a 33-year-old man, Michael Fagan — frustrated at being unemployed and separated from his wife — broke into Buckingham Palace and entered the queen’s bedroom.

The queen is again played by Olivia Colman, the British actress who won an Oscar for The Favourite in 2019. In the fifth series, she will hand over the role of the older queen to 64-year-old Imelda Staunton, known for playing the cruel Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films.

US actress Gillian Anderson plays Margaret Thatcher, the imperious first woman to head the British government, in a season dominated by strong female roles.

A critical and popular success, The Crown was first broadcast in 2016 and has won numerous awards, including three Golden Globes and 10 Emmy Awards. A total of 73 million people have watched at least one episode of the series, according to Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s joint chief executive and chief content officer.
