Bold scene in ‘Resident Evil’: Ahad Raza Mir shares his side of the story

When Pakistani actor Ahad Raza Mir stepped into the world of Resident Evil, he knew the bold scene would spark conversations. But what went through his mind as he took on the role?

In a recent interview with Gloss Etc by Maliha Rehman, the Dhoop Ke Deewar actor opened up about the controversial scene, the process behind it and the double standards he faces as a Pakistani actor in international projects.

“Did you feel comfortable doing the bold scene in Resident Evil? Did you ever think ‘should I do it or not’?” asked the host.

“It was quite scary because I know that it’s going to happen. But we have to also understand that we show slapping, violence, and abuse on screen. We see all of this… sometimes to the extent where I feel it shouldn’t be something children are watching. But when it comes to affection, suddenly, there’s a big problem. The reality is, we’re all watching these things in Indian and Hollywood films, but when a Pakistani actor does it, we think we must judge… we must say something about this,” he replied.

Ahad also went on to explain the process behind shooting such scenes.

“I understand that everyone has their own opinion, but when I was shooting in the UK or America, I didn’t refuse to perform such scenes. Why? Because it’s a part of the story. It’s not just about doing the scene… it’s a very technical process. There’s a checklist and a very thorough process that goes behind it. It’s not just about showing up and doing whatever you feel like. There’s a whole structure to it,” the HUM TUM actor added.

In the same interview, Yakeen Ka Safar actor opened up about upcoming projects.

In Meem Se Mohabbat, Ahad Raza Mir will star opposite Dananeer Mobeen, marking their first on-screen pairing.

“It’s lighthearted with a little bit of a heavy undertone. It’s the kind of story I’ve been looking for because it’s multi-dimensional… has its moments of depth. Not to say that lighthearted work doesn’t have depth, but this has something worth exploring, and that’s why I signed up. It’s written by Farhat Ishtiaq, and I have trouble saying no to her scripts. Her storytelling is phenomenal. Every time I read or hear one of her stories, I get hooked.”

Speaking about his much anticipated Netflix project Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, the Ehd-e Wafa actor reflected on the timing and significance of the series.

“I think I’m waiting for ’Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo’. I’m hopeful and all, but everything has its time, you know? It had to happen at this time, and that’s when it did. I think there are reasons for that. There must be a reason behind it in the cosmos. That’s kind of how I’ve been living life anyway now. I think there’s no point in worrying as long as we, as human beings, think that way… like there’s a greater plan for everything. That’s the way I look at it. I’m just happy it’s coming.”

Ahad Raza Mir’s future plans also include branching out beyond his established relationship with Hum TV to explore new opportunities with other channels.

He’s excited to see how working with different networks will change his experience as an actor.

“I am moving on to other channels as well and I’m excited for that… just to kind of see what the difference is, and obviously, I think every channel also has their own mandate of the kind of content that they want to do. So I’m excited to see myself in that position.”

  • When is Pakistan’s first ever Netflix series coming to our screens?

When is Pakistan’s first ever Netflix series coming to our screens?

Author and drama writer Farhat Istiaq’s novel Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo is making its way to a Netflix adaption with fans eagerly awaiting the release of the much anticipated drama series.

Farhat has shared some exciting details about the fairly secretive upcoming series on Connect Cine.

Indian journalist Faridoon Shahryar asked, “What is the latest update of Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo?”

“Insha’Allah, most likely it will be released next year. Our shooting is complete, and you’ll witness a high-quality product, shot in Italy, the UK, Islamabad, Karachi, and across multiple locations. It has a vibrant mix of locations, adding an enjoyable flair. Italy, for instance, holds special significance as I was inspired by my years spent there, I adore its history and the love I developed for the place led me to write a novel centered around it.”

Italy plays a key role in Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel, almost acting as a character.

“In fact, Italy itself is almost like a character in the novel, featuring the cities of Rome, Milan, and Florence as integral parts of the story. So naturally, in the drama adaptation, Italy will also play a key role, with all the places I mentioned in the novel beautifully depicted on screen,” she explained.

The Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum writer also highlighted the challenges of adapting a novel for the screen, particularly for an OTT platform like Netflix.

Farhat said, “In novels, you’re freer to express, but for a screen adaptation, especially an OTT platform, adjustments have to be made to meet different requirements. The essence of the novel, however, remains intact.”

The host asked, “Who are your favorite writers?”

“I have many, I love reading Ghalib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s, Ahmed Faraz, Munir Niazi poetry deeply touches me, a good verse stays with me for days, and I can live happily with it for a long time. Although I don’t write poetry , I greatly admire its beauty, the way a poet can convey what would take pages to express in a novel with just a couple of lines. Among fiction writers, Bano Qudsia, Ashfaq Ahmed, and Qurratulain Hyder stand out, and in English literature, Shakespeare and Thomas Hardy. I read everything, I enjoy good and bad literature and don’t just restrict myself to good literature; I enjoy reading everything, even things that are considered  not-so-good,” Farhat concluded.

Aamina Sheikh took a break from acting for these reasons

Aamina Sheikh, known for her exceptional acting talent, is not only celebrated for her compelling performances but also for her unwavering commitment to promoting arts and culture.
During an interview with MomKast, Aamina Sheikh talked about that she planned to put her career on hold and focus only on her children.

Aamina said, “I would shoot a scene and I would nurse my daughter in between then I would go back to shooting, Nursing is such a big commitment on your body, so I wasn’t getting any break by feeding in between scenes, I was basically running a double shift.”

“After that, obviously her schooling and her routine became a priority. I also had to face some other challenges in life due to which I had to put my work aside and figure out the way forward, for myself and for my child, hence my move to Dubai.” Sheikh added.
Recalling the difficult decision she had to make as a working mother, Aamina Sheikh shares,
“And for a while, I had to choose what takes priority here? My child, and her future, or my passion? And I chose her. I took that break. I had to really redesign things and reestablish my family, my ground. I put work on the back burner and Alhumdulliah I could, monetarily speaking, because many women don’t have that option or support in their marriage, or are financially challenged. Well, I had that support from my parents and having worked so much and been so financially mindful all my life.”

After a long break, Aamina Sheikh is making a return to the spotlight with an exciting new project. She will soon be seen in Netflix’s upcoming series Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo.

Aamina Sheikh tied the knot with actor Mohib Mirza, in 2005, and they announced their divorced in 2018. The couple has daughter, named Meissa, in their 13-year marriage.
She re-married businessman and entrepreneur, Omer Farooqi, in August 2020, and the couple had a son, named Issa, in 2021.
