Qalandars vs Gladiators; who will win today?

Tournament favourites Lahore Qalandars will face a team in trouble on Thursday. Quetta Gladiators are at the bottom of the points table while Qalandars are right on top.

Lahore Qalandars fans are excited to watch Lahore vs Quetta in their home ground, but they are likely relaxed too after their team performed extraordinarily well in their first 4 games.

Last time Lahore palyed against Quetta at the National Stadium, Qalandars thrashed the Gladiators, winning the match by 63 runs. Now Quetta Gladiators are ready to take revenge.

Experts say that there is a strong chance of Lahore Qalandars maintaining their winning streak, with a complete batting and bowling line up. Spinner Rashid Khan can change the game single handedly, Shaheen Afridi is famous for grabbing first over wickets and the king of seam, Haris Rauf.

Their batting line up is also strong in term of hitting in power play, with powerful hitters Fakhar Zaman and Kamran Ghulam.

Shaheen Afridi’s team heads into the fixture after thumping Islamabad United by 110 runs in their previous outing. Quetta Gladiators have managed to win just one match in the tournament so far, with their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition looking increasingly bleak with each passing game.

‘It shouldn’t have happened on TV,’ Afridi reacts to Haris Rauf slapping Kamran Ghulam

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has addressed a recent incident that happened in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi on Monday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars’ pacer Haris Rauf slapped his teammate Kamran Ghulam, who dropped a catch on his bowl to Zalmi batter Hazratullah Zazai.

The veteran cricketer said that whenever he met Haris, he (Rauf) was the best. “Haris is a simple man and his bowling shows how aggressive he is,” Afridi said.

He said: “Haris has not done a good thing and it should not have happened on TV. PSL is being watched all over the world.”

The former captain further asserted that if certain things happen, then lessons should be learned from them and caution should be exercised in the future in “grooming academies”.

He added that Haris will have to be very careful in the future as “his behaviour will not be tolerated in the future while the team management should have taken action on this move but it is wrong for the management to defend him.”

In the same over, Fawad Ahmed caught Haris’ ball and Ghulam went towards Rauf for a hi-five and that was when Rauf slapped him in frustration. He, however, hugged him later.

It was reported that Haris was given a warning by an on-field umpire and was not given any penalty for his behaviour during a match.

During the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches, Lahore Qalandars’ pacer Haris Rauf slapped his teammate Kamran Ghulam after he dropped a catch on his bowl. Video of the incident went viral in minutes but the speedster later hugged Ghulam during the match against Peshawar Zalmi in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

It happened when Ghulam dropped Hazratullah Zazai at Haris Rauf’s full delivery on the leg side. However, Fawad Ahmed took a good catch to send Mohammad Haris back. While celebrating, Ghulam went towards Rauf for a hi-five and that was when the latter slapped him in frustration.

    He, however, hugged him later.

Lahore Qalandars’ official social media account also posted a video of the two players hugging and having fun with each other.

Peshawar Zalmi won in the Super Over after the teams were tied on 158 runs. Shaheen Afridi’s unbeaten 39 off 20 deliveries, which included a last-ball six, had earlier helped Qalandars tie the game.

A report in Cricket Pakistan also said that, “Although no serious action was taken, Haris Rauf was let go after being given a warning.” Rauf finished the match with figures of 1/36 from his four overs.

Quetta failed to get a good start as Lahore’s skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed back-to-back wickets of batters Jason Roy and James Vince in the first over. They posted a total of 141, thanks to Iftikhar Ahmed’s half-century.

The recovery came initially through another little cameo from Umar Akmal, and then a 51-run stand between Iftikhar and Hassan Khan. Iftikhar scored a 39-ball 52 to ensure the Gladiators would have something to bowl at, but needed to bat through the innings to really give them a defendable total. Once he holed out in the 18th over, the innings deteriorated.

The Qalandars didn’t go hard in the powerplay, but only because they didn’t especially need to. Ghulam Mudassar removed Abdullah Shafique early but Fakhar’s sensational inning showed no mercy on the opposition’s bowling attack. The opener struck six boundaries during a 42-ball 53, and even when he top-edged one-off Noor Ahmed to end his knock, his side required just 24 more in 27 balls.

Then came Hafeez and clinched the match with Ghulam, who scored an unbeaten 55 on 39 balls.

Twitterati couldn’t stop lauding Fakhar’s consistent stint at this year’s PSl.

Former cricketer Rashid Latif took to Twitter and shared Fakhar’s picture and wrote: “Sar Fakhar se buland ho gaya.” (The head is raised with pride.)

While several showered praise sharing Fakhar’s stats in the seventh edition of PSL.

Fakhar has become only the second player in the history of PSL to score six fifty-plus scores in a single season, Babar Azam holds the record of seven in 2021. Fakhar stands on top of the table of players with 469 runs. Multan Sultans’ Shan Masood is behind him with 351 runs while Multan’s skipper Mohammad Rizwan is following Shan with 269 runs.
