Small business Amaltas Studio accuses Khaadi of plagiarism

A small business by the name of Amaltas Studio took to their Instagram account to accuse Pakistani fashion giant Khaadi of plagiarising their artwork. The page posted photos of the two mirrors side by side to point out the similarities, writing in the caption:

“Appalled to share Khaadi Home’s shameless act of plagiarism our unique mirrors! We were informed by one of our clients that our whimsical mirrors, which we submitted for the Kreate Your Mark project, were imitated instead of appreciated. Shame on them for disregarding originality and betraying the spirit of supporting women entrepreneurs.”

In the comments section, a user claimed the designs by Khaadi were inspired, rather than plagiarised, to which Amaltas Studio responded:

“Hi, this is not inspired, this is blatantly plagiarism. These copied our product, technique and aesthetic.

Please note that, we specialise in exclusively making these printed whimsical mirrors, whereas Khaadi is a giant corporation. Inviting small business to apply to their programs to support women entrepreneurs and stealing their ideas is not a good look. Thank you.”

This is not the first time a fashion brand has been accused of plagiarism by a small business. Hussain Rehar was accused of copying designs of small business Kook Studio without giving them credit. Rehar responded in a lengthy statement, explaining the designs for his collection ‘Jugnu’ took inspiration from traditional African embroidery designs.

“Jugnu, a project in the making for over a year, derives its inspirations from traditional African embroidery designs. While there may be similarities in using the same monochrome palette, these elements are commonly found in various art forms across cultures. In an effort to maintain transparency, we are sharing all relevant images and references.”

Esra Bilgiç, who has become immensely popular in Pakistan after Diriliş: Ertuğrul aired on PTV in Urdu, has reportedly refused to work with Pakistani makeup artists and photographers.

Lahore-based photographer Natasha Zubair, in a message shared to her Instagram stories, claimed that Esra refused to “work with Pakistani makeup artists and photographers.”

She continued, “[She] is still wearing our clothes…and we’re still paying her…the amount we must be paying her.”

Later, when a local media outlet reached out to Natasha for more details, the photographer refused to comment on the matter.

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends cloth masks for the general public.

Designers across the world have started introducing face masks into their collections and Pakistani brands are not far behind. Many of them have launched printed and embroidered masks for those who are bored with the regular surgical masks or the N-95s.

Loyalty in a partner and attending Oxford is what Pakistanis want

The Current starts its day with a morning mood to engage followers and find out what they are interested in. This is done via a ‘this or that’ poll and the winner had to compete the same category the next day. It is done over a week’s time and we found out a lot about our followers – and Pakistanis – based on what they vote for.

    Food Wars

Honestly, this one is no surprise given how much Pakistanis love their biryani. Hence, biryani was the winner.

But, we were surprised when chicken biryani won on Eidul Adha.

Which university appeals the most to Pakistanis?

We did a poll on different Pakistani and foreign universities and asked you what your dream university is. It’s sad that no Pakistani universities made the cut but here is what did win.

    Personality Traits

This is the most interesting. What do you all want in your life partner?

Loyal beat everything! Seems like nothing is more important for Pakistanis than a partner who is loyal.

    Your dream car?

We asked you about your dream car and we got our answer. As per our final poll reults 72% people would go for a Rolls Royce beating Bentley.

    Clothing Brands

This one was intense and Khaadi was winning but in the final poll that we posted on Saturday, check out who beat Khaadi.

Follow us on Instagram at @thecurrentpk to take part in our polls and message us why you vote the way you do. The latest one is on the most popular fast food chains and that’s not one to miss.
