A police report reveals that Lahore ranks first in the number of children who run away from home due to disputes with their parents. Most boys and girls head to the railway station to leave for other cities.
According to the Railway Police, ninety-six children from various cities in Punjab were returned to their parents over a period of three months. Children tend to leave home when their demands for phones, laptops, and other items are not met.
The help desk explained to Samaa news that railway stations provide an accessible route for children to travel to other cities.
The meteorological department has predicted rain in different cities today.
Rain may occur in some parts of Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujarat, Faisalabad, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, as per the weather department.
Battered with heat, Karachi is expected to receive rain this evening. Drizzling is expected in other areas of Sindh, such as Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Sanghar, Thatta, Badin, and Sjawal are also likely.
The Meteorological Department reported that the highest rainfall was recorded yesterday (Sunday)at Old Airport, around 20 mm, while 11 mm was recorded at Sarjani Town and 9.4 mm at Jinnah Terminal. Ten mm of rain was recorded on University Road, 7 mm on Shaara Faisal, 6.5 mm on Hassan Square, 2.5 mm on PAF Base Masrur, and 0.8 mm on North Karachi.
Rain is also likely to descend in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir today.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has predicted the fourth spell of monsoon to start in Punjab from today, while south Punjab is likely to experience cloudy skies from tomorrow.
Controversial writer Khalil UR Rehman Qamar was abducted and robbed in Lahore, as confirmed by the police.
The incident happened when a woman named Amna contacted Qamar, inviting him to her home to discuss a drama project. When he arrived, armed men kidnapped him and carried out the robbery.
The First Information Report (FIR) states that the suspects assaulted Qamar and moved him to various locations. The scriptwriter alleged that the kidnappers threatened to kill him and demanded money from his relatives. The FIR also states that the suspects took Rs. 250,000 from Qamar’s ATM card and took his watch, cell phone, and cash.
Qamar is widely criticised for his misogynistic statements while remaining unapologetic and unwavering in his opinions in the face of controversy.
Qamar is safe now and has reported the incident to the police. The police have started investigating. the case.
The Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) degree verification system in Lahore has been faulty since the past 10 days.
According to HEC sources, the malfunction has resulted in the suspension of degree verification for hundreds of students, causing serious issues for those intending to pursue higher education abroad.
Students have expressed frustration over their futile visits to the HEC office and lack of response. Despite submitting online applications, they have yet to receive the issued challans.
In response, the HEC administration has indicated that the system’s malfunction originated in Islamabad. They have stated that once the system is repaired, students will receive their challans and appointment dates.
Punjab government has decided that cellphone services would remain partially suspended on the 9th and 10th of Muharram in different parts of the province.
The spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department says cellular services would be suspended only in the surrounding areas of processions and Majalis. “Mobile services will be partially suspended in Gujranwala, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, Rajanpur, Faisalabad, Bahawalnagar, Hafizabad, Gujrat, DG Khan and Jhang.”
However, the spokesperson clarified that cellular services will not be completely suspended in any city of the province.
In a bid to ensure safety of the citizens, the partial suspension of mobile signals will continue from 8am till 10pm during the 9th and 10th of Muharram, he added.
The spokesperson informed that cellular network services will be suspended at 28 locations in Rawalpindi, 15 locations in Rahim Yar Khan, 11 locations in Mianwali and Bahawalpur.
Meanwhile, the services will remain suspended at 10 places in Layyah, seven places in Muzaffargarh and six places in Nankana Sahib.
The cellular service would remain active in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Khushab, Sialkot, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara and Chiniot, the official statement asserted.
Fashion maestro Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, recently appeared as a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, ‘Excuse Me,’ where he reminisced about his younger days and discussed his fashion inspirations.
Hassan Shehryar Yasin recalled spending time in a women’s hostel with his mother, where he would enter and exit through the window because children were not allowed to stay with their mothers in the hostel.
“I was so scared of being caught that I didn’t speak for two months,” he said.
When Hassan started working abroad at the young age of 12, he realised that having money would lead to a better life.
“I’ve had many different jobs. I worked at a petrol station, a burger shop, and even carried bricks at construction sites,” he remembered.
Talking about his journey to becoming a fashion designer, HSY reveals that Princess Diana’s wedding played an important role in inspiring him.
“I watched Princess Diana’s wedding with my mom and loved her dress. I thought, ‘That’s what makes someone famous.’ I wanted to make clothes like that too. I even made tissue paper dresses for my sister. That’s how my dream of becoming a fashion designer started,” he said.
HSY deems his first fashion show as “a turning point” in his career.
He auditioned in Lahore in 1994 and got selected. “It was a dream come true,” he says.
“I rose to fame quickly, but I don’t attribute it to any special talent or skill. I believe it was pure luck and divine blessings that got me where I am today. I’m just grateful for the opportunity to do what I love,” HSY believes.
A video of a group of girls beating up a shopkeeper in Lahore has gone viral on the internet. Some netizens claimed that the girls were daughters of an influential lawyer, adding that they had beaten the boy because they thought he was harassing them.
In the video, the girls appear to have initiated the assault, with the boy at the receiving end of their blows and slaps.
CCTV footage shows girls standing at the cash counter of a tuck shop holding coffee mugs while a young salesman is sitting at the counter with the cashier. The girls start talking angrily and then barge inside the counter.
One girl, clad in a black T-shirt, grabs the salesman’s neck and slaps him; the other girls grab the boy’s hair and hit him. An elderly customer forbade the girls, but reportedly, they hurled abuses at him and went to the police station.
The incident happened on Saturday night in the Garden Town area of Lahore at a petrol pump tuck shop. The boy was then arrested on charges of harassment, as per Geo, on the complaint of one of the girls, Iman Zahra.
She stated in the complaint that both the salesmen made obscene gestures, and when she complained, salesman Yusuf, along with the cashier, abused them. Social media lambasted the girls for their inhumane behaviour.
Ihtisham ul Haq called the whole act of violence “disgusting”.
Activist Shama Junejo pointed out that the girls come from an influential background. Lahore Police’s Twitter handle replied to her, “On July 7, the police registered an FIR on a harassment complaint by the girls. Today, based on video evidence, these boys were acquitted. However, if any application is received from these boys, action will be taken according to merit.”
To this, Shama replied, “When a crime is shown in a video, is it necessary to take action only on the complaint of the victim? Can’t it happen?”
Netizens criticised Lahore police for this response as Ashir Azeem Gill, an ex-civil servant, actor and activist sarcastically wrote, “Well Done, Lahore police. Tomorrow you’ll say, how can we catch the killer, the deceased hasn’t filed a case.”
The staff of Lahore Children’s Hospital replaced an unwell baby boy with a dead baby girl.
The hospital then handed over the body to the parents.
Irfan Akram, a citizen of Gujranwala, said that his son was born four days ago, and he brought him to Children’s Hospital Lahore for treatment. “The hospital staff declared the child dead after 6 hours and handed him over to me,” he recalled.
Upon reaching home, Irfan found out that there was a dead girl in his baby’s clothes.
The police say a kidnapping case has been registered in the Naseerabad police station, and investigations have started with the help of CCTV footage, while the statements of the child’s family and hospital administration have also been recorded.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered on Wednesday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) lawmaker Zartaj Gul’s name be removed from Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri heard a petition filed by Zartaj Gul to remove her name from ECL.
The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) and the PTI leader showed up before the court for the hearing.
The court ordered the AAG to remove the MNA’s name from the ECL and present a report within a week.
