    Model Nayab Nadeem strangulated to death in Lahore

    Fashion model Nayab Nadeem was strangled to death in Lahore’s DHA area by an unknown person. The complaint was registered by Nayab’s step brother.

    SHO Nayyar Nisar stated to Dawn that, police officers have suspected that the model was strangulated, but added that the post-mortem report will reveal the facts about her death.

    Muhammad Ali, her stepbrother lodged the complaint and stated that on July 9’s midnight, he found his stepsister dead on the floor, that too unclothed. He added, “There were scars on my sister’s neck.

    He added that her bathroom’s window was broken. He suspects that his sister has been murdered and demands for justice.

    The model lived alone in the house and she wasn’t married.

    Woman gets misprinted Rs1,000 currency note from ATM in Karachi

    A woman received a misprinted currency note of Rs1,000 from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Karachi’s Landhi area on Saturday.

    As per reports, the woman withdrew a note of Rs 1,000, which had two pictures of Quaid-e-Azam. However, the serial number was properly written on the note. The woman said that she was afraid to use that note as people might think that she was the one who prints fake notes.

    The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) spokesperson, in a statement, asked the woman to submit the misprinted note to the SBP.

    He said that an inquiry is under way and strict action will be taken against the bank, if found guilty.

    ‘Punjab police will soon arrest culprits behind Lahore blast’: Sheikh Rasheed

    Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Thursday said that the Punjab Police were close to arresting the culprits responsible for the Johar Town blast.

    The minister tweeted that officials had achieved “great success” during the investigation process. “Punjab police will soon arrest the suspects and give good news to the people,” he said.

    Rasheed said that Pakistan’s enemies could not tolerate the economic and political stability in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and had started adopting “terrorist routes”.

    A powerful blast near the residence of Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed killed three people and injured 24 others, including a police constable.

    Three dead, 23 injured in blast at Lahore’s Johar Town

    At least three people were killed, while around 23 others sustained injuries in a blast in Johar Town, Lahore. The explosion took place in a residential area near Allah Hu Boulevard, police said.

    Lahore Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riaz Malik said while it was not immediately clear what had caused the blast, it had left behind a crater. “We will only be able to determine the cause after carrying out an investigation,” he said, adding that the area was being cordoned off.

    Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police has said that the Johar Town blast was a terrorist attack and as per the initial investigation the enforcement/police agencies may have been the target.

    According to reports, rescue, police, and bomb disposal teams have reached the site of the incident, while witnesses said that the glass windows of nearby houses and buildings have been shattered. One of the buildings has been severely damaged and some vehicles parked at the site of the blast have also been affected.

    An emergency has been declared in Jinnah Hospital to treat the injured, while Rescue 1122 and other relief organisations have been asked to expedite rescue activities.

    Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the blast, and directed the IG to investigate the incident and submit a report.

    Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid also took notice and directed the Punjab chief secretary and IG to submit a report. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

    Nine cops suspended for harassing Johny & Jugnu staff for refusing ‘free burgers’

    Lahore police have suspended its nine officials on Sunday for harassing and illegally detaining Lahore restaurant, Johny & Jungu’s staff for ‘refusing for burgers’.

    As per reports,  at least nine police officials including a station house officer (SHO) were suspended for illegally arresting employees of the restaurant in DHA after they refused to give “free burgers” to the cops.

    A few days before the incident, some police officers went to the eatery ‘Johnny and Jugnu’ located in DHA Phase-6 and tried to get burgers for free.

    The cops left after they were refused by the staff and returned later on Friday night only to arrest the staff members of the restaurant for reasons that the outlet claimed as “baseless and unjust”.

    After the news did rounds, Punjab Inspector General Inam Ghani ordered to suspend all officials involved in the incident for the abuse of  power.

    The Punjab police chief also directed the Lahore CCPO to take strict departmental and legal action against the officials involved in the incident without any delay, according to a statement.

    He further stated that the “officers and personnel involved in illegal activities do not deserve any concession so no leniency should be given in taking action against those responsible after the inquiry.”

    The restaurant also took to social media to tell the incident with details, “This was not the first time something like this has happened with our kitchen teams at our restaurant but we want to make sure this is the last. Yesterday night, around 1am our kitchen teams were taken into custody by the Police.”

    The statement of the restaurant added, “19 of our innocent crew members were kept locked up at the [police] station for the entire night, without any basis, as per orders from their SHO.”

    They further stated that this happened because they refused to give burgers to someone “very special,”

    On June 11, for almost seven hours in the night, “they (policemen) kept our team locked up, harassing them, pushing them around, all for not giving them free burgers, for not entertaining a ‘request from a very high profile special guest’”, the restaurant said

    Elaborating on her point, she added that she wants Karachi’s roads and infrastructure to improve, Hira also wants the water crises in the city to be resolved at the earliest.

    Hira explained her Katrina Kaif comment by saying that she likes Bollywood superstar Katrina but the Dhoom 3 actress has used botox whereas Hira hasn’t.

    The Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2021 has listed Karachi among the least liveable cities in the world, Geo News has reported. The city has ranked the as the seventh least liveable city in the world.

    Meanwhile, Auckland has been ranked as the world’s most liveable city.

    Usman Buzdar’s helicopter makes an emergency landing

    Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s helicopter made an emergency landing in Lahore due to strong wind on Thursday evening.

    Buzdar and his staff members who were travelling from Islamabad to Lahore, remained safe.

    The chief minister’s helicopter was scheduled to land at Lahore old airport but the wind forced the pilot to divert and land at the Railway Stadium in Garhi Shahu. Buzdar had gone to Islamabad on Wednesday to attend meetings chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

    Two kangaroos die at Lahore zoo

    A male and a female kangaroo died in Lahore Zoo on Thursday.

    As per reports, the male kangaroo died after suffering from a jaw infection while the female kangaroo was unwell for a long time.

    Both were provided medical assistance but couldn’t survive, the  officials said.

    Now13 adult kangaroos and three baby kangaroos are left at Lahore Zoo.

    Earlier, a lion died of ‘cardiac arrest’ in Karachi Zoo. The director of the zoo said the lion died because of its old age and that the average lifespan of a lion is 18 years normally.

    The Wild Life Department of Sindh with the help of District East officials captured the two lions in 2017 because they were transported into the city illegally. One of the two had died the later year of their fostering in the zoo, due to old age as well, the director claimed.

    According to the post-mortem report of the deceased lion, the cause of death was the cardiac arrest due to heavy fat deposits on its heart.

  • LHC acquits couple sentenced to death for blasphemy

    In a landmark judgement, The Lahore High Court has acquitted a Christian couple who was on death row for seven years on the charges of alleged blasphemy.

    “I have to confess that after the justices had given their verdict I wept,” the lawyer of the acquitted couple told Catholic Charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN).

    “There were times when I wondered if, after so long, justice would ever prevail in this case,” he added.

    The couple’s lawyer said that the case against the couple was always weak. “Who is responsible for taking eight years for justice to prevail?”

    The couple was arrested in 2013, under Section 295C on the charge of sending alleged blasphemous text messages.
