A cop opened fire on a prisoner at a police station in Lahore after he repeatedly asked the officer for a cigarette.
According to reports, the incident took place at Chuhang police station in Lahore, where Constable Waris wounded an imprisoned man, Zeeshan, who was taken into custody relating to electricity theft.
“The constable opened fire after the inmate repeatedly asked for a cigarette from Waris, who was appointed at the security of a lockup at the police station,” they said.
The injured was taken to a hospital for medical treatment as police arrested the cop for injuring a prisoner and registered a case against him.
The police said that they would investigate the incident and determine if it was over mere refusing a cigarette or anything else.
The doctors, who treated the injured accused, said that he was currently out of danger.

A kitten died after a 15-year-old boy along with his friends allegedly gang-raped it repeatedly for over a week.
According to a viral social media post by an animal shelter, which has also widely been shared by other animal organisations and the general public, the kitten was adopted by the family of the boy who abused it many times until she died after suffering from crushed internal organs.
The posts revealed that the kitten couldn’t sit, walk, eat or sleep due to the pain and trauma. “The culprits used shopping bags for the act which were left inside the poor cat,” the posts claimed.
The vet confirmed that the cat was abused but refused to write it on paper to avoid involvement in the case.
Upon inquiry, one of the culprits’ mother refuted the allegations and said, “My son hasn’t done this.”
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked outrage and many people, including celebrities and journalists, have strongly condemned the incident, urging the authorities concerned to take action against the culprits.

Senate Human Rights Committee has taken the notice of sexual harassment incidents at the Lahore Grammar School and will hold a meeting in this regard on July 22.
Senate Human Rights Committee Chairperson and PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar shared details of the meeting and said that “parents of the students who were concerned with the way investigations have progressed so far” can also attend the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting will be to brief the Senate body on the incidents and the actions taken after the allegations by the Punjab Education secretary, LGS principal, and Lahore DPO.
Speaking to The Current about the matter Senator Khokhar said, “[These incidents are] deeply disturbing. One wonders where we are headed as a society with crimes of sexual assault and harassment on the rise.”
He added: “[We are] waiting to hear from the authorities and the outcome of their investigations so far, whether cases have been registered against offenders and whether any action has been taken by the education ministry or school for incidents like this not to happen again.”
On June 28, dozens of girls came forward with accounts of harassment and inappropriate behaviour by teachers at LGS 1A1 Ghalib Market Branch. The management of the school, including female teachers, also came under fire for brushing the matter under the carpet for years. It is pertinent to mention here that most of the girls studying at the school were minors at the time.
Such incidents had reportedly been going on for the past four or five years and the victims had been reporting the matter to the admin and their teachers. However, they took no action and resorted to victim-blaming. Strict action was only taken after the girls shared their ordeal on social media and the matter became public.
According to details, students have come forward and shared their experiences of being harassed by three teachers namely Aitezaz Rehman Sheikh, Umer Shareef and Zahid Iqbal Warraich. All three teachers were fired soon after the allegations surfaced.
Following the uproar on social media, Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari had said that she has taken serious notice of the allegations. The Punjab government had also said that they will hand exemplary punishments to the perpetrators and make an example of them.
The Lahore Police has arrested a man who allegedly gang-rapeda girl with his two accomplices. The two reportedly became friends at a popular video-sharing app, TikTok.
According to reports, the victim girl filed a complaint at Millat Park police station in Lahore in which she accused three men of gang-raping her.
In her complaint, the girl stated that she became friends with a boy, Shiraz, through the TikTok app 20 days ago. Shiraz then called her to come to the Samanabad area on June 13. When she reached there, Shiraz asked her to sit in his car. Two men were already sitting in the vehicle.
The girl said that she was gang-raped by all three men on gunpoint inside the car.
A case was registered against a woman who slapped and misbehaved with a traffic warden who stopped her for parking her car in a no-parking area in Lahore’s Liberty Market.
In a video doing rounds on social media, a traffic warden requests a woman not to park her car on the road as it is a no-parking area. In response, the unidentified woman started abusing and slapping the warden on his face and giving him threats.
The warden then could be seen calling women police constables to arrest the woman for violating traffic rules and hitting him. He filed a complaint at the Gulberg police station after which a case was registered.
According toreports, the incident took place two days ago when the woman had wrongly parked her car on a main road near the Liberty Market exit that resulted in a traffic jam. Warden Furqan asked her to park the car properly on the side. The woman started abusing and asked the warden to speak to her father. Upon his denial, the woman allegedly slapped the warden and escaped from the scene.
As the video went viral on social media, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) retired Capt Syed Hammad Abid ordered raids for arresting the woman. A police team raided her house, but could not find her there. Her vehicle was detained.
However, a sessions court in Lahore granted bail to the woman today (on Thursday). The court directed the woman to deposit a surety bond of Rs50,000 to secure her bail.
Accounts of sexual harassment that were shared on social media last month by students of Lahore Grammar School’s (LGS) 1A1 branch were harrowing to say the least.
Four male staffers were subsequently terminated while the principal, administrator and coordinator were suspended as they have been accused of covering up the scandal.
We must say that it was very brave of the victims to recount their trauma and raise this issue on social media when all other avenues failed. More power to these girls who did not back down for demanding justice for themselves and their fellow students.
To think that this had been going on for four years under the administration’s nose makes one wonder why senior members of the administration did not pay any heed to multiple complaints by students. Sexual harassers are of course the main culprits here and they must be punished according to the law but those who abetted them by covering up their crimes cannot shirk responsibility either. Once a student had approached the administration to report sexual harassment, it should have been investigated right away and proper measures should have been taken instead of blaming and shaming underage girls for ‘leading on’ these predators.
Victim-blaming is not just mentally damaging and demeaning, in this case it was downright criminal. The commitment of Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas as well as Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari to the LGS case is commendable. However, Raas’s suggestion that only female teachers should teach at all-girls’ schools is a stop-gap arrangement of sorts. This policy cannot be dictated and it should not be implemented either. By this token, do we think that any man who teaches girls in schools cannot control himself? What about all-boys schools where male teachers have abused? This sort of messaging is not appropriate. Male teachers must be taught to treat their students as ‘students’ and not any sexual beings. Parents send their children to school for education, believing they are sending them to a safe environment where they will be looked after by the school management just like families look after their own.
A school is quite literally a child’s second home where he or she learns, makes friends and prepares for their future. It should never have been a place where underage girls were sexually harassed by faculty members with unwanted and inappropriate pictures, messages, etc.
Educational institutions – from schools and colleges to universities – should have a proper and clear policy on sexual harassment. This policy should be public and awareness sessions should also take place regarding this issue. Psychologists should also be hired by educational institutions to provide free counselling to children and not just for sexual harassment but also for other issues they might be facing. Just like some schools have career counselling, there should be counsellors – like ombudspersons – to hear complaints about sexual harassment at schools. These are just the basic things that all educational institutions must comply with.
FAST Lahore has reportedly expelled students over making and sharing memes about the university on social media.
The university’s administration has also issued a notification demanding an apology from students that posted ‘defamatory memes’ on Facebook. According to the notification, six students were expelled and the academic grades of many other students were downgraded. The notification also directed students to post an apology on their social media accounts.

“Failure to comply with the orders will render the respondent liable for either cancellation of the degree; or blacklisting; or reporting to authorities for trial under cyberbullying and harassment laws; or all of the mentioned punishments,” the notification read.
Punjab government has finally once again sealed worst-hit areas of Lahore for at least two weeks despite which the number of coronavirus infections in Punjab rose to 71,987 on Friday.
The development came days after Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid slammed the people of Lahore for not taking precautionary measures against COVID-19 and held them responsible for the surge in the number of infections in the country’s most populous province.
“Lahoris are weird creatures. For them, everything is a joke. They are so ignorant… they do not listen and don’t care. No other nation is more ignorant and stupid than Pakistanis,” she had said.

Seven COVID-19-affected areas have been sealed in Lahore over the past week. These include Gulberg, Model Town, Faisal Town, Garden Town, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Gulshane Ravi and the Walled City.
A complete ban has been imposed on transportation and businesses in the sealed areas where 3,606 cases have so far been reported. The actual number of cases is likely to be way more than official figures that are as follows:

Government guidelines were issued before re-opening business ahead of Eidul Fitr, under which shopkeepers were told not to let people gather at their stores, social distancing was stressed, availability of sanitisers for general public’s use was to be ensured and wearing gloves with masks was made necessary in most spaces.
However, none of the SOPs [standard operating procedures] were followed by most Lahoris, resulting in the provincial capital of Punjab becoming the epicenter of COVID-19 in the province.
At present, there are 71,191 coronavirus cases in Punjab while 35,582 cases (about 49.98 per cent of the total number of infections) are in Lahore alone with the local spread in the city standing at 69.4 per cent.
Despite a lockdown being put in place again, government SOPs are still not being followed by people as many believe that coronavirus “does not even exist”, and throng to markets, destroying social distancing among other guidelines.
A look at stats of police actions against violators of SOPs amid the government’s “smart” lockdown, also proves the same.
According to Lahore police stats from June 16 to June 24, almost 238,400 citizens violating coronavirus guidelines were warned and sent back home. As many as 8,251 motorcycles and vehicles were confiscated while 4,599 citizens submitted surety bonds for not unnecessarily leave their homes again.
During the ongoing lockdown, 8,927 cases have been registered and 1,888 shops have also been sealed for violating SOPs in Lahore.
Facebook helped in capturing two robbers, who entered a house in Lahore after a girl posted a status on Facebook that two robbers have entered her house.
As per reports, two robbers entered a house in Faisal Town, Lahore. A woman named Saba, who was in the upper portion of the house, posted a status on Facebook that two dacoits have entered her house after observing resistance from the family members.
Reading the post, friends and the other family members of Saba, instantly called police helpline 15, who reached the house in no time and arrested the robbers after negotiations of half an hour.
Saba said after the robbers broke into the house, she immediately shared a status on Facebook after locking her room in the upper portion of the building.
