    Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa nay Mercedes neelami pay lagga dee

    Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, has ordered that two luxury vehicles, allocated for his use by both the federal and Punjab governments, should be auctioned, as per Geo News.

    The decision comes as Chief Justice Isa deems the allocation an “inappropriate splurge of scarce public resources.”

    The Supreme Court registrar communicated the Chief Justice’s decision through a letter addressed to the federal government, cabinet secretary and Punjab chief secretary.

    The letter revealed that in September 2020, the apex court purchased a new Mercedes Benz, 2996 CC sedan for the Chief Justice at the cost of Rs61 million.

    Furthermore, the Government of Punjab provided a brand new bullet-proof Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number LEG-S00 for the use of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

    The vehicle is currently stationed at the Supreme Court Rest House in the Government Officers Residence (GOR), Lahore.

    The communication emphasized that, by established rules, every judge of the apex court is entitled to two vehicles.

    “Justice Isa has not used the said Mercedes sedan nor the Toyota Land Cruiser,” said the letter. It further stated that it is an “inappropriate splurge of scarce public resources to buy imported luxury vehicles for the use of constitutional and public office holders”.

    “Therefore, these vehicles may be collected and auctioned and the money realised from the sale be spent on much needed public transport,” said the letter.

    Justice Isa took oath as the 29th CJP in September of this year after his predecessor Umar Ata Bandial hung up his robes.

    Justice Isa’s tenure as the country’s chief justice, however, will be quite brief, as he is set to retire from the position on October 25, 2024.

    He took oath as the apex court’s judge on September 5, 2014.

    This is not a movie plot-line but a baffling revelation of an imposter working as a lawyer with a streak of 26 victories in a row. Brian Mwenda Njagi, an alleged advocate, now faces arrest and unsettling questions about the country’s judicial credibility.

    The unmasking happened when Njagi dared to represent former leader Maina Njenga. A video of the courtroom went viral, prompting the Law Society of Kenya(LSK) Nairobi Branch to dig deep into the matter only to find out that Mwenda was never registered as a member of the society. On top of that, he also had no legal qualifications.

    He had been presenting himself as a lawyer for three years and had handled 26 cases before High Court Judges, Magistrates, and Court of Appeal Judges. He won all the 26 cases before his arrest.

    This shocking expose has garnered a range of reactions, from shock to amusement that someone without any qualification outperformed established lawyers in the court.

    One social media user posted “So he won 26 cases against Lawyers who went to the law school but he’s rather being punished? Those lawyers should rather be punished for letting one who hasn’t attended a law school win cases against them,”

    Other pleaded to give him the lisence. “Fair enough. Winning 26 cases isn’t beans. He deserves that license.”

    Another user pointed out the forgery of Law Schools. “Brian Mwenda has proved that Law School is a Scam and Law Bar Examination is a Scam too these are Standards made by the Colonial systems this man litigated and won all his cases give him the Law license to practice Law.”

    Lawyer fined by Qazi Faez Isa for ‘wasting’ court’s time

    Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa imposed a fine on a lawyer on Thursday for what he considered a clear wastage of the court’s valuable time. According to reports, the Chief Justice levied a penalty of Rs5,000 on the lawyer for consuming the court’s time during proceedings related to a property case.

    Justice Isa pointed out that the attorney had failed to appropriately draw the court’s attention to pertinent documents, instead attempting to misguide the court. Expressing his disappointment with the petitioner’s legal representative, the Chief Justice remarked that their actions had undermined the court’s trust.

    He addressed the lawyer directly, saying, “The court has lost faith in you with this act of yours”.

    Chief Justice Isa further instructed the lawyer to donate the fine amount to a charity of their choice and provide the court with proof of the donation receipt. The case in question revolved around a property dispute, with court proceedings having extended over several weeks.

    Advocate Jalila Haider has won the distinguished Justitia Award in Vienna on Friday, September 15.

    The Justitia Awards are presented to women in law in one of three categories: international leaders / lifetime awards; academia; game changers / pioneers / young achievers.

    Jalila Haider is a human rights attorney and a political activist from Quetta and the first female attorney of the local Hazara community.

    She is the founder of We the Humans – Pakistan which works towards the empowerment of local communities in Balochistan by creating opportunities for women and children.

    The advocate also heads the Balochistan chapter of the Lahore based organisation Women In Law ‘Women In Law Initiative Pakistan’. It works for equality of opportunity and connectivity of female lawyers in Pakistan.

    Among many other achievements, Haider was selected as one of ‘News Women Power 50’ list of Pakistan’s most influential and powerful women in 2015.

    In 2014, she was selected as an Atlantic Council Emerging Leaders of Pakistan Fellow.

    She is not the only Pakistani lawyer to have won this prestigious award.

    In 2021, Nida Usman Chaudhary won the Justitia Award, becoming the first Pakistani woman to be granted the honour.

    Civil rights activist and lawyer Mohammad Jibran Nasir was picked up by armed individuals on Thursday, from Karachi, his wife, actress Mansha Pasha, has confirmed.

    Pasha has revealed that she and her husband were coming back from dinner when a white Vigo almost crashed into their car. Fifteen men armed with guns came out and took Nasir with them.

    Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of abduction.

    FIR:

    A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the abduction of Lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir.

    The FIR states that the lawyer has been picked up by unidentified people.

    The case has been registered at the Clifton Police Station under two sections of the Pakistan Penal Code — 365 and 34. The FIR has been registered on the complaint of Jibran’s wife Mansha Pasha.

    Social media users are calling for Nasir’s immediate release.

    Who is Jibran Nasir?

    Jibran Nasir is a lawyer by profession, a human rights activist and an independent politician.

    Jibran Nasir participated in 2013 and 2018 general elections as an independent candidate from NA-247 and PS-111 constituencies of Karachi.

    Jibran is known for his strong stance against hate speech and the lawyer has always been vocal about human rights violations.

    Jibran has also worked with different non-profit organizations including, Elaj Trust, advocacy, Never Forget Pakistan.

    After the Army Public School attack in 2014, Jibran took a stand against Taliban apologists. He was among the four people who held a candlelight vigil in front of Lal Masjid against then-chief cleric Abdul Aziz for refusing to condemn the attack.

    Jibran has been at the forefront in different cases of human right violations such as the Khadija Siddiqui stabbing case. He has been part of the counsel for the father of slain aspiring model Naqeebullah Mehsud and against Shahrukh Jatoi.

    He was the creator of the famous #ImagineKashmir campaign.

    In 2021, Jibran tied the knot with actress Mansha Pasha.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry has said that party Chairman Imran Khan is the most popular and respected leader of Pakistan and should be treated with respect.

    While talking about the possible outcomes of the contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry said that the on-going case is between the contemnor and the court and they are not letting Khan speak.

    On being asked if Khan will “unconditionally apologise” today, Chaudhry said, “He can, there is no harm in it.”

    He further said that Khan’s lawyer, Hamid Khan, doesn’t know anything as he is “Ghuggu ghorra” [a person who doesn’t speak]. “I have told Khan saab many times that you yourself should speak [in the court]. Hamid Khan doesn’t know anything,” said Chaudhry.

    “If Allah Almighty gives respect to someone, it becomes obligatory on people to give that person respect as well. Imran Khan is the leader of millions of Pakistanis, so judges must also give him respect,” said Chaudhry.

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is scheduled to formally indict Khan in a contempt of court case today (Thursday), for his controversial remarks about Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during a rally in Islamabad on August 20.

     Japan’s Princess Mako will marry a commoner, her former classmate, this month after years of controversy as she will give up her royal status, BBC News reported.

    The couple is all set to tie the know on October 26.

    The couple initially planned their wedding in 2018, but this was put off, reportedly after Mako’s boyfriend, Mr Komuro’s family had run into financial difficulties.

    They are expected to move to the US after marriage where Mr Komuro works as a lawyer.

    This excessive media coverage around the princess — whose father is Crown Prince Fumihito — and Mr Komuro’s family over the years has caused the princess to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, the Imperial Household Agency said, according to news outlet Kyodo.

    Her aunt, Empress Masako, also suffered from a stress-related illness, due to intense pressure to produce a male heir. There is often a stigma around mental illnesses in Japan. The couple first met in 2012 when they were students at the International Christian University in Tokyo.

    They were engaged in 2017 and were set to marry the following year. But news of Mr Komuro’s mother’s financial problems started doing the rounds; she had reportedly taken a loan from her ex-fiancé and not paid him back.

    The palace denied the delay was linked to this, though Crown Prince Fumihito said it was important for the money issues to be dealt with before they got together.

    Princess Mako will reportedly forego a traditional lump-sum payment of up to 150 million yen ($1.3m), which is normally gifted to a member of the royal family upon their departure from the household.

    She is also expected to skip the usual rites associated with a royal family wedding. If she skips both the payment and the rites, it will make her the first female member of the Japanese royal family to do so.

    Under Japanese law, female imperial family members forfeit their status upon marriage to a “commoner” although male members do not.

    The two pet dogs that attacked a Karachi lawyer have been euthanised as per the conditions of the compromise agreement reached between the dogs’ owner and the victim, confirmed the police.

    As per reports, the dogs were euthanised at a veterinary clinic. The owner of the dogs informed the police about it.

    Last month, two pet dogs attacked and injured a resident of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Karachi.

    The video that did rounds on social media showed the two dogs rushed towards the resident and injured him. The pet-sitter at first tried to pull off the dogs from the man but upon seeing the dogs out of control, he ran away from the scene leaving the victim to defend himself.

    The victim, Mirza Akhtar Ali, later registered a complaint with Darakshan Police Station. However, an agreement was reached between the Mirza Akhtar Ali, and the dogs’ owner, Humayun Ali Khan, on July 6.

    “The two dogs involved in the incident will be euthanised/put down by a veterinarian immediately. Any other such dogs that Humayun Khan has, he shall give them away,” stated one of the conditions of the agreement.

    The other conditions of the agreement are:

    • Humayun Khan tenders unconditional apology to Mirza Akhtar Ali for the hurt and injury caused to him.

    • Humayun Khan and family shall not keep at their home any dangerous or ferocious dogs as pets. Any other dogs kept as pets shall be registered with the Clifton Cantonment Board and shall not venture out on the streets without a properly trained handler and shall be muzzled and leashed at all times they are outside.

    • Humayun Khan shall make a donation of Rs1,000,000 to the Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation — ACF Animal Rescue.

    The two German Shepherds that attacked a lawyer in Karachi last month will be “euthanized”, according to a compromise agreement between the dogs’ owner and the victim.

    Rights activists call the agreement between Humayun Khan and Mirza Akhtar Ali Advocate preposterous.

    As per reports, Khan’s dogs attacked the lawyer when he was out on a morning walk. The CCTV footage of the incident showed the two dogs attacking the Mirza Akhtar as he helplessly attempted to defend himself.

    Mirza Akhtar “agreed for the sake of Allah [to] forgive Humayun Khan”, reads the agreement between the two parties.

    “The two dogs involved in the incident will be euthanised/put down by a veterinarian immediately. Any other such dogs that Humayun Khan has, he shall give them away,” states one of the conditions of the agreement.

    The agreement between the two parties further states that Humayun will tender an “unconditional apology” to Mirza Akhtar for the “hurt and injury caused to him”.

    Another condition states that the dog owner will register any other dogs with the Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) and not allow them to come on the street unless they are with a “properly trained handler.”

    The agreement concludes on a clause that Humayun will donate Rs1 million to a local animal shelter, ACF Animal Rescue.

    The case was registered at the Darakhshan police station and Humayun was granted a bail before arrest while his employess were in police custody.

    A police team has been formed to probe the kidnapping and week-long torture of a woman lawyer, Advocate Irshad Nasreen, who was recovered from Mailsi, the district police officer (DPO) has said.

    The DPO, while formally announcing the woman’s recovery, said the special team, comprising the superintendent of police (SP) for investigation, Shamsul Haq, and two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), was tasked with searching for and arresting the kidnappers.

    The police officer noted that a FIR [First Information Report] — including charges of kidnapping — was registered on behalf of the woman’s son on August 22.

    The special team was investigating the case in light of her recorded statement, Geo quoted the cop as saying.

    The woman has been shifted to the Dipalpur Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, the police officer said.

    A resident of Dipalpur, police had earlier told media that Nasreen was recovered in a semi-conscious state from a field near Dhoda Road in Mailsi. She was found with her hands and legs tied and unable to speak.

    The day she was recovered, police said she told them she had been kidnapped from her office by unidentified men on August 14.

    A viral video that followed her recovery showed the lawyer in a traumatised state.

    Further investigation was underway, police added.

    On Monday, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan also reportedly took notice of the incident after the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) issued a statement condemning incidents of targeted killings, kidnappings and incidents of torture of lawyers.

    In the statement, PBC Vice Chairperson Abid Saqi strongly condemned the incident, saying the increasing lawlessness in Pakistan was extremely concerning. Five lawyers have been shot dead in targeted killing so far, including four in Punjab and one in Sindh, he said.

    Three lawyers in Lahore, Pakpattan, Sialkot were kidnapped and tortured, Saqi added.

    The PBC official said the torture and abduction of the woman lawyer was extremely worrisome. The woman lawyer, he added, was tortured continuously for six days after her abduction.

    She was recovered in a very critical condition in the fields in Mailsi, he added.

    Saqi further said these incidents of violence have made lawyers vulnerable and their safety compromised. The government’s indifference to targeted killings, kidnappings, and violence in just three weeks was reprehensible, he added.

    It was the duty of the government and the administration to improve the law and order situation, he said, lamenting that the incumbent leadership had failed to protect its citizens.

    The official said the current situation called into question the ability of the government. He demanded action against those involved in the targeted killings, kidnapping, and torture of lawyers.

    Meanwhile, according to reports, she was once kidnapped earlier in October 2019 as well.
