  • My father left his job, my mother left her family: Tabish Hashmi on family’s move to Pakistan

My father left his job, my mother left her family: Tabish Hashmi on family’s move to Pakistan

Host and stand – up comedian Tabish Hashmi is one of our favourite people on screen but did you know that until very recently, his family was living in India?

The star host was invited as a guest on Hafiz Ahmed’s Podcast where he detailed the difficulties his family faced when they shifted to Pakistan from India in 1984.

“My father moved to Pakistan in 1984, leaving behind a comfortable life in India where he had a good job. His brothers, who were already settled in Pakistan, encouraged him to make the move. It was my grandmother’s illness that finally prompted him to take the leap. While my father’s sacrifice was significant, as he gave up his job, it was my mother who made the ultimate sacrifice, leaving behind her entire family to join my father in Pakistan. My elder sisters were born in India, and I was born in Pakistan.”

Talking about how his father became a citizen of Pakistan, he said, “At that time, it was relatively easy to settle in Pakistan by showing investment in the form of dollars or money. Fortunately, my father had the necessary funds, so we were able to obtain Pakistani nationality.”

Well, we are glad that Tabish’s family made the move. Or else we would have been deprived of one of our brightest stars.

  • A fresh take on arranged marriage; ‘Poppay Ki Wedding’ delivers humor with heart

A fresh take on arranged marriage; ‘Poppay Ki Wedding’ delivers humor with heart

I recently watched ‘Poppay Ki Wedding’ and thoroughly enjoyed it. The movie tells the story of a modern man who returns to his hometown for his sister’s wedding, only to find out that his family has arranged his marriage to a stranger. Determined to challenge traditional customs, he sets out to catch a glimpse of his future wife’s face before the wedding day.

The cast, including Khushhal Khan, Nazish Jahangir, Rehan Sheikh, Shamyale Nasir, Sara Aijaz Khan, and Aleezay Rasul, deliver impressive performances in this romantic comedy. The film’s writers and directors, Kanza Zia and Ammar Lasani, deserve credit for giving new faces a chance to shine in roles that fit their characters perfectly. The film introduces new faces that fit their roles perfectly.

The story is engaging, with Poppay navigating his conflicting desires and family pressures, all while maintaining a light-hearted, comedic tone.Chu Chu, Poppay’s friend, and Mooda, who is Poppay’s uncle, are standout characters who add a lot of humor to the story. The music in the film is exciting and enhances the film’s lively atmosphere.

The film features four songs: ‘Poppay di Shaan’ (the theme of the film), ‘Pardesi Larka’ ‘Aisa Ishq,’ and ‘O Khuda.’ Each song adds to the vibrant, festive feel of the movie. The film’s message about respecting our parents’ choices and decisions is a valuable one.

While Poppay’s journey from resisting arranged marriage to embracing it is entertaining, it also highlights the importance of family and tradition. This could be on time watch film recommend ‘Poppay Ki Wedding.’ It’s a fun, colorful, and heartwarming film that you can enjoy with family and friends. You won’t regret buying tickets for this entertaining movie.

One drawback of the film, in my opinion, is that Poppay’s cousin’s acting, while showing promise with her expressions, fell short in terms of her dialogue delivery. Her lines often felt forced or unnatural, which detracted from the overall impact of her performance.

Abrar Ul Haq made Bhangra popular in Pakistani pop music. His songs ‘Aaja Ni Baija Cycle Tey,’ and ‘Billo De Ghar’ are timeless hits played at every wedding. Bollywood recently remixed his song ‘Nach Punjaban.’ After quitting politics last year, Abrar Ul Haq has returned to making music.
Abrar was a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt’s show where he said, “If we put a little effort into it, just like my songs from 15 to 20 years ago,
such as ‘Jatt Charya Kacheri,’ at that time, no such songs were coming from India.

They followed this trend, and after that, they started making songs in the same way. Anwar Aziz, our respected politician from Narowal, once met me in court and said there is a compliment for you, especially this Sikh guy is following your music style. Basically, Pakistan should take pride as we started the trend.”
He was of the opinion that old singers are always angry at new talent. “This used to happen to me, and now singers of my generation are doing it to youngsters. Music of every generation should be respected and enjoyed.”
