    Which is why the result of Gallup’s new survey comes as no surprise.

    Gallup Pakistan, the well-known public opinion polling agency, has released a new survey on social attitudes, according to which only five per cent of people in Pakistan get married to people of their choice, aka love marriage.

    Whereas 85 percent of the country’s marriages are arranged.

    A 22-year-old man staged his own kidnapping to trick his father into giving him two million rupees, reports Dawn News.

    Two days ago, Muhammed Ahmad, son of Mushtaq Mahra, went missing from Rohillanwali, 25 km from Muzaffargarh city. His father approached police by calling 15, complaining about his son being abducted by Katcha gangs of Sindh.

    Rohillanwali police registered a case. A day later, Mushtaq received a call from his son who told his father that he had been kidnapped by the Katcha area gangs of Sindh who demanded two million rupees as ransom for his release. He told his father that the kidnappers would kill him if they did not get the money.

    Police took action, reaching the Katcha area of Ranipur in Sindh, and located Ahmad by using modern technology and recovered him.

    The SHO said that Ahmad had faked his kidnapping and his ‘kidnapper’ kept calling his parents, demanding the ransom amount.

    During the investigation, police came to know that Ahmad wanted to marry a girl of his choice while his parents opposed it. He made a plan with his friend to get a money from his father and contract a love marriage. Police arrested Ahmad and his accomplice who was with him in Ranipur.

    Another cross-border marriage is about to take place, this time in India. Jaweria from Karachi and Sameer from Kolkata are set to get married soon. Jaweria Khanum finally made it to India after a wait of five years to marry Sameer Khan Yousafzai.

    The two befriended each other on social media and got the approval of their families in 2018. The pair got engaged and started trying to get a visa to culminate their deep bond into marriage.

    Detailing the difficulties she met, Jaweria revealed that her visa was rejected twice, in addition to travel restrictions imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

    She was eventually granted a 45-day visa after two rejections. The couple plans to marry in the first week of January, with Jaweria expressing joy at fulfilling her wish after five years.

    Following her arrival in India, she was received with a wholehearted welcome from her future in-laws. The couple is set to travel from Amritsar to Kolkata, where the marriage ceremony is scheduled to take place.

    A private bank’s cash van carrying Rs 6 crore and 35 lacs was robbed on September 19 in Karachi’s Korangi area.

    The suspect, Zohaib, has not been arrested yet.

    According to investigative authorities, Zohaib was the employee of a private security company, and had been working in Karachi since the past 10 months. He left his job two months ago to get married to his love.

    Officials revealed that after reaching his wedding destination in Okara, Zohaib found out that the girl he was interested in had already gotten married elsewhere.

    In a statement provided by relatives to investigative authorities, it was mentioned that the suspect was distressed due to the failed love affair and became a robber.

    Investigative authorities further revealed that Zohaib returned to Karachi and rejoined the same security company. He robbed a bank’s cash van in September and is still on the run.

    Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa has remarked that having a beard does not make a person a Muslim, people themselves marry for love and then it becomes an issue for the court as per Aaj news.

    The case of the extradition of two minor girls was heard in the Supreme Court by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

    The court ordered the two girls to be handed over to their mother, ordering that the father of the girls will be able to visit the girls on Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm, and if the father violated the court order, contempt of court action will be taken against him.

    The lawyer of the father pleaded with the court that the girls should be with the father, as their mother works at night, and does not have time to take care of them.

    Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa expressed his anger and asked whether the lawyer has read the principle of extradition in Islam or not, stressing that according to Shariat, children stay with their mothers.

    The Chief Justice remarked that we are Muslims in name only, our work is not that of Muslims, just having a beard does not make a person a Muslim, action must also be taken. Prayer, fasting, and Hajj are not enough, he observed, adding that humanity and morals are also necessary. If the parents are not divorced, their mutual resentment will spoil the future of the children.

    The Chief Justice asked the children’s father whether he had a love marriage or an arranged marriage.
    Taimur, the father of the children, said that it was a love marriage.

    The Chief Justice remarked that people themselves marry for love, and then they become an issue for the court.

    The Supreme Court disposed of the case with the consent of the parents.

    Girl’s father bites off finger of boy’s dad over love marriage clash

    A girl’s father bit off the finger of a man’s father during a physical assault over a love marriage dispute at the Gulshan-e-Zia area of Orangi Town in Karachi, reports Geo News.

    Muhammad Hussain, the father of Muhammad Suleiman, told the police that the girl named Nabila lived in their neighbourhood and was also his son’s class fellow. He said that the girl fell in the love with his son and wanted to marry him. She went to his house and tried to convince Suleiman’s mother to let them marry each other.

    However, his mother explained to Nabila that her son did not have any job so he could not get married right now.

    Meanwhile, the girl’s father, Nadeem, reached Suleiman’s house along with his brother, Aleem, and they started beating Suleiman and his mother.

    They physically abused Suleiman’s mother by grabbing her hair. They also dragged her and tore off her clothes.

    While rescuing his wife and son, Muhammad Hussain was attacked and his finger was bitten off by Nadeem.

    Police added that Hussain was provided medical aid from the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police arrested both Nadeem and Aleem for assault and lodged a First Investigation Report (FIR).

    About 40 students at a girls college have pledged to desist from love marriage besides giving or receiving dowry, a 2020 video going viral a day after Valentine’s Day has revealed.

    As per the details, the video was recorded at Mahila Kala Vanijya Mahavidyalaya in the Indian state of Maharashtra

    The oath was administered by teachers during a National Service Scheme (NSS) camp, which was attended by 100 students.

    The college is run by an educational organisation, Vidarbha Youth Welfare Society, founded by late Ram Meghe, Congress leader and former state Education Minister. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts and commerce.

    The oath administered to the students was, “I take the oath that I have complete faith in my parents. So, considering the incidents happening around, I will not get entangled in love and will not do love marriage. Also, I wouldn’t marry anyone demanding dowry. If my parents marry me off by giving dowry due to some social compulsions, as a future mother, I will not take dowry from the parents of my would-be daughter-in-law and will not give dowry for my daughter’s marriage. I am taking this oath for a strong and healthy India.”

    Indian media reported that the oath was optional.
