Huda Beauty’s founder willing to risk her business for truth and justice

Huda Kattan, the founder of Huda Beauty, posted a video on December 11, stating that she will “not be intimidated” by the backlash she has faced for speaking up against Israeli atrocities in Gaza.

“I am speaking on behalf of humanity, and I will not be intimidated,” Kattan said in her video.

“We can’t be afraid to lose anything; we have to trust the process. If we lose something, something else will come to us the right way because we are doing good work — I believe that wholeheartedly,” she said.

She also asserted that she is willing to risk her business for what’s right and fair.

“I am willing to risk my entire business, everything that I have on that, in search of the truth and justice,” Kattan stressed.

“I’m not antisemitic; I’m not anti any people and never will be. I stand against that,” Kattan added, pointing at the attempts being made to redefine terms related to genocide and that Israel is jeopardizing Jewish people.

  • Meet Manu Bebo, first transgender makeup artist in occupied Kashmir

Meet Manu Bebo, first transgender makeup artist in occupied Kashmir

Manu Bebo, Kashmir’s first transgender makeup artist is breaking barriers in her area. Manu is winning hearts all over social media with her flawless makeup tutorials.

Speaking to Geo News, Manu said, “Everyone appreciates my work. It makes me feel very happy and proud.”

Manu was born in a middle class family in Srinagar and was raised as a boy. She had a happy childhood like other children. She enjoyed playing video games. But as she turned 13, she started feeling different.

“After my sister got married, I was feeling very lonely. I had many female friends and I started realising that I too wanted to be a girl. I started to wonder why God didn’t make me a girl,” Manu said.

She said with time she understood that she had the “soul” of a girl.

She received backlash from family, friends and relatives for thinking like this. She faced rejection and society made fun of her.

“I was badly bullied during my high school days and I felt mentally tortured to such an extent that I decided to quit my studies. Later on, I got used to it, and eventually, I didn’t care.”

She said that even her family was ridiculed because of her. But as the time passed, they too stopped caring about what others said.

Manu was not able to continue her studies after the 12th grade but she was ambitious to make something of herself. She decided to start her own business.

Transgender community in Kashmir mostly earns their living by singing and dancing at weddings or by matchmaking. But Manu chose to stand out and make her own way. That is when she decided to improve her makeup skills.

“Makeup is something that I’ve always enjoyed doing and when one has an opportunity to start a career in something that is enjoyable, then why not do that? I am totally self-taught and don’t have any professional training,” said Manu, who speaks and writes fluently in English.

Manu started her venture four years back and with her hard work and commitment, she earned a name for herself everywhere in Kashmir. She has thousands of followers on social media.

“I believe in doing the work that earns you respect. Why should I dance at weddings and bear people’s shameless, humiliating laughter?”

Manu credited her mother for her success.

“I am happy with my life. I don’t have any regrets. It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks or how they react. I earn my own money and my family is fine with whatever I do.”

She said that people in Kashmir are supportive  and people are more welcoming and respectful of them.

Motivating her fellow transgenders, she said, “To all the transgenders out there, or even those people who are forced to hide: be yourself, as life is too short to give weight to what people think. Whether you do good or bad, people will always have something negative to say. So just don’t pay attention to such people, and rise, like a boss.”

  • Huda Kattan does not want to endorse unrealistic beauty standards

Billionaire make-up mogul Huda Kattan has urged people to stop using photoshop and look beyond unrealistic beauty standards by sharing an over-edited version of a picture from the campaign of her newly launched beauty line GloWish to show what the picture would have looked like after editing.

“We’ve had ENOUGH of the over-editing, photoshop and not showing enough realness!!! So we thought we’d look in the mirror and start with ourselves,” she wrote in the caption of the post.

“Here is a not so, ‘perfect’ photo from our GloWish campaign shoot and I thought it would be really interesting to show you guys what it would have looked like had we chosen to photoshop and try to sell unrealistic beauty expectations,” she added.

Huda Kattan has launched a third beauty line entitled GloWish which consists of everyday makeup essentials.

Earlier, this year in April she said that she has “had enough” of filters and photo editing, as they have warped modern beauty standards into something “unrealistic”.

In 2018, Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan requested  Zara Shahjahan to not photoshop her pictures from the shoot as she endorses the idea of embracing natural beauty standards.

The screenshot of Nabila’s text stated, “Don’t you have brain of your own?”

“For someone of Nabila’s repute, to stoop so low and send me such an underhanded message on the launch of my GO makeup palette is just beyond me,” wrote Nadia.

She went on to clarify that how her product is different from Nabila’s product, “My item may be similar but surely the concept is totally different, she has no copyright on such a design, many many international brands have such similar travel makeup kits and also that my product itself offers much much more in comparison to her zero makeup kit”

Nadia also attached screen recording of her pervious conversation with Nabila to prove the authenticity of her claims.

She continued, “Surely my GO makeup palette rocks and surely it has rocked her boat.”

Sharing pictures with her makeup artist Adnan Ansari, the Superstar actress wrote: “People always ask me why I post so many photos of my team, particularly my make up artists. Most of the time I don’t know how to answer that. Today as I write a post for Adnan, I thought I’d share this with all of you.”

“Adnan was an assistant makeup artist at Nabila’s when I was a VJ at MTV. We were all sent to Nabila’s for a makeover, I wasn’t ready to get anything done so I was assigned to Adnan. We sat there literally twiddling our thumbs. I remember laughing at everything he said. This was 2006/7,” said Mahira.

“15 years later and he is still my make up artist- well to the world at least,” she continued. “For me, he is so much more than that.”

“He’s my friend, my brother, my keeper of secrets…he knows when I’m upset and knows how to make me smile. He has seen me cry sneakily on set and held my hand through it. I have held him in my arms when he has broken down. We have laughed, cried, danced all night, ate like crazy, travelled the world… all of it.. together.. he is my family.”

The actor further said: “So to answer the question…is quite simple – I am, because of them.”
