    Malik Riaz, wife, refuse to get tested for coronavirus at the airport, home

    Real estate tycoon Malik Riaz, his wife, and another member of his team allegedly refused to undergo Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) for coronavirus when landing at Lahore airport, violating the instruction of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

    In a letter written to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) headquarters in Karachi, Lahore airport chief operating officer and manager Akhtar Mirza said the Bahria Town CEO refused to give samples for the Covid-19 test. The team of airport health staff went to his residence to follow up with a test but Riaz refused to take the test.

    Riaz, along with four other people, landed at Lahore Airport from Dubai. After the passengers passed through the immigration process, the CAA duty staff requested Riaz and his fellows to undergo the RAT, which is a rapid diagnostic test that directly detects the presence or absence of the antigen and gives results within few minutes.

    “But they did not respond and rapidly moved towards international arrivals exit gate,” Mirza stated in the letter.

    Riaz, Bina Riaz and Shahid Mahmood Qureshi, “left the airport without [the test] which is an open violation of NCOC instructions and SOPs”, the letter added.

    The CAA management then contacted the government health team and Riaz’s personal staff officer to obtain the RAT samples from the property tycoon’s residence. A two-member team of airport health staff subsequently left for Riaz’s house shortly “but unfortunately once again [he] flatly refused to give samples for the requisite test.”

    The letter was submitted to the airport services director at CAA Karachi headquarters for his “information and further necessary action”.

    After detection of the coronavirus in some passengers arriving in Pakistan and despite them having negative PCR test results, the CAA tightened the rules regarding testing.

    Zain Malik, the son-in-law of property tycoon Malik Riaz, has been acquitted by an accountability court in six cases pertaining to fake accounts after he pledged to pay Rs9.5 billion in plea bargain, Dawn reported.

    The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted a schedule of payment to the accountability court.

    Accountability Court judge Mohammad Bashir took up applications of Mr Malik seeking acquittal in three under-trial cases and approved them.

    Zain undertook to mortgage his six properties and pay Rs4 billion in one case, Rs170 million in another and Rs37 million in the third case to NAB, Rawalpindi Directorate, in three years. He will pay the amount in instalments in three months’ interval.

    He joined the court’s proceeding through a video link from the UK.

    When the judge asked Zain whether he knew consequences of acquittal through the plea bargain, he replied in the affirmative.

    The acquittal under the plea bargain did not absolve the accused from the case as the conviction stands despite acquittal.

    He is accused in the fake accounts cases of Pink Residency, Illegal Allotment and Mega Money Laundering. He is also an accused in the Icon Tower case of Karachi and has to formally plead in the accountability court in this case for acquittal under the plea bargain.

    Actor Uzma Khan has accused the daughters of property tycoon Malik Riaz of assaulting and threatening her.

    In a statement, the actor wrote, “I have been shamed, blackmailed, harassed, been threatened to kill in the past three days. I feel I have nothing to lose now and I have decided to fight the strongest people of Pakistan. For me, it is either I get justice or I will be killed but there is no turning back now.”

    “I will fight against daughters (Amber Malik & Pashmina Malik) of Malik Riaz, who stormed into my house around midnight with 12 men,” she added.

    Uzma also said that she has filed a police complaint against her alleged harassers and requested them to register her FIR and conduct her and her sister Huma Khan’s medical examination.

    According to the actor’s lawyer Khadija Siddiqui, the incident took place on the eve of Chaand Raat. She shared that Malik Riaz’s daughters – Amber and Pashmina – along with Usman’s wife Amna stormed into Uzma’s house with 12 gunmen where they assaulted and injured Uzma and her sister and threatened to kill them. Amna is the daughter of Amber Malik’s husband’s brother.

    They vandalised the house, broke things and even attempted to sexually assault the girls by telling their goons to touch them. Moreso, they filmed everything including the women which is a breach of their privacy. The lawyer added that Riaz’s daughters took away all the belongings of the two sisters, including their clothes and shoes and said that they will set them on fire.

    “We’ve registered a complaint against Malik Riaz’s daughters but the police were not willing to register an FIR against them,” said Khadija, adding that if they are unable to register an FIR, they will take the matter up in court. Uzma’s other lawyer, Hassan Niazi also tweeted that the local police station was not willing to register the FIR and that the SP exited from the police station after asking them to wait.

    However, Punjab Police later clarified that legal action has been initiated against perpetrators.

    Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari also shared a copy of the FIR on social media.

    Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media with people, including fellow actors, demanding justice for Uzma and her sister.

    Malik Riaz, Aamna Usman respond

    Meanwhile, following the incident, Malik Riaz took to social media to say that Usman was not his nephew and that he has nothing to do with the incident. While the relation between Malik Riaz and Usman is still not clear, it has been confirmed that the women attacking Uzma and her sisters in the video were indeed his daughters.

    Usman’s wife Aamna, in a video message also shared her side of the story and asserted that Usman has no relation with Malik Riaz. She said that she repeatedly asked Uzma to stay away from her husband, but the actor paid no heed to her warnings. Aamna also said that the house where the incident took place was Usman’s and not Uzma’s.

    However, Uzma’s lawyers slammed Aamna’s video and said that they will not compromise under any circumstances.

    £190 million recovery: TV channel mutes ex-governor upon mentioning Malik Riaz’s name

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former Sindh governor Muhammad Zubair was muted on-air by a private media outlet when he took property tycoon Malik Riaz’s name in relation with the £190 million settlement of United Kingdom’s (UK) National Crime Agency.

    Discussing the issue, Zubair highlighted how the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was hesitating when it came to naming the Bahria Town founder publicly. He then went on to take Malik Riaz’s name twice, but it was censored by the TV channel both times.

    Media has largely been ignoring the news of Riaz’s settlement with the National Crime Agency, with majority of the English daily newspapers refraining from posting the news on their front page. While some are avoiding mentioning Riaz’s name, others are not reporting the settlement at all.

    Government officials, including the premier’s aide on information and broadcasting, have also been spotted avoiding mentioning the name of the Bahria Town founder.

    Sharing the details of the settlement with the media, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday avoided mentioning Riaz’s name when asked about the family in question. “The report contains the name of the family that made the settlement,” she said.

    Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan refrained from naming Malik Riaz in front of the media while giving details about £190 million property settlement case in the United Kingdom (UK).

    Firdous avoided saying Malik Riaz’s name when a journalist asked her about the family who had settled with the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

    The special assistant while replying to the question said, “The report contains the name of the family who made settlement”.

    The UK’s crime agency had earlier agreed to a settlement worth £190 million with the family of property tycoon Malik Riaz. The statement from the agency said, “The £190 million settlement is the result of an investigation by the NCA into Malik Riaz Hussain, a Pakistani national, whose business is one of the biggest private sector employers in Pakistan”.

    Meanwhile, the special assistant to the PM on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar has said, “The money has been transferred to the Supreme Court and we have already filed a request before the apex court that the money should be given to us [state of Pakistan]”.

    However, Mirza Akbar did not remove the ambiguity as to how the money can be transferred to the Supreme Court, if the NCA anno­unced in its official press release that it will be given to the state of Pakistan.

    Pakistani business tycoon, Malik Riaz has agreed to hand over cash and assets worth £190 million to National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom (UK).

    NCA in recent tweet disclosed the news about a settlement with a Pakistani businessman. The tweet said, “The NCA has agreed a £190m settlement with a family that owns large property developments in Pakistan and elsewhere after a frozen funds investigation”.

    The NCA has accepted a settlement offer in region of £190 million which includes a UK property, 1 Hyde Park Place, London, W2 2LH, valued at approximately £50 million and all of the funds in the frozen accounts.

    The agency also said that agreement had been reached with Hussain to hand over the cash and ownership of the exclusive address, which overlooks Hyde Park, adding that the assets will be given to the government of Pakistan.

    In August 2019 eight account freezing orders were secured at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in connection with funds totalling around £120 million.

    These orders followed an earlier freezing order secured in December 2018 linked to the same investigation for £20 million. All of the account freezing orders relate to money held in UK bank accounts.
