‘Opposition scared because Imran Khan has no price’: Prime Minister

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday said that the Opposition would not receive a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

“They are scared because Imran Khan has no price, he will not give you an NRO like General Musharraf,” said Khan, referring to the country’s former military ruler.

Addressing a rally in Mandi Bahauddin, PM Khan said, “Thieves will not get any NRO until they return the country’s [looted] money […] as long as I am alive, I will not let them rest until they return the people’s wealth.”

If Shehbaz Sharif is innocent, then why is he running away from the courts?

Criticising Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, the premier said that he had a “weak heart and knew he would not be able to escape if his case (of being a guarantor in Nawaz Sharif’s case) is heard”.

“If Shehbaz Sharif is innocent, then why is he running away from the courts?”

PM Imran went on to say that when the Opposition had filed a case against him in the Supreme Court, he did not leave the country and had proved that he was sadiq and ameen (honest and righteous).

“I provided the documents the court asked for. I did not run away [or] ask for more dates. I told them to listen to the case [day-to-day],” said PM Khan.

Have you ever heard a politician blackmail others via tapes?

Whatever your plan is, Kaptaan is prepared

“I have a message for the Sharif family: Kaptaan is ready for all your plans. You will not only face defeat, but all of you will go to jail,” the prime minister vowed.

“This is not what politicians do, this is what mafias do,” he declared, calling on supporters to help the government combat them.

“I have vowed to fight them as long as I am alive.”

There is no doubt inflation has increased

The prime minister said: “They [the Opposition] say that inflation has increased. There is no doubt it has increased.”

He went on to say that the government was always working on how to lessen the burden of this inflation on the people of the country.

“I promise to reduce the burden on the people.”

“Supply lines were affected due to the pandemic. There was a shortage of commodities and they became more expensive,” said PM Khan.

“Every month, the government suffers a loss of Rs70 billion due to this,” said PM Khan.

‘Imran Khan the standard you want to set for Bushra Bibi, apply the same for all women’: Maryam Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, in a fiery press conference, fiercely criticised Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

“Yes, your [PM Khan] wife [Bushra Bibi] is of respect to us. The standard you want to set for your wife, the same standards should have been there for the deceased Kalsoom Nawaz [wife of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif]. When I used to go to check on my mother from our London apartment to the hospital, three to four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers used to abuse me. When my son Junaid used to leave, they used to abuse his mother,” said Maryam Nawaz.

She alleged that some PTI activists had barged into the hospital just to take pictures of an ailing Kulsoom.

“The standard you set for your wife, apply the same for every woman,” added the PML-N leader.

“I was innocent and you put me in the death cell. You did the character assassination of a daughter in front of her father. When I was in Gilgit Baltistan and running my political campaign in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, you did not have an answer to my political criticism. So your minister on record hurled below the belt criticism towards me.”

“I want to request the media to play the footage of the speeches of the PTI ministers where they have made personal attacks against me. Imran Khan Sahib used to praise them for making such comments, clap at them. I too am someone’s daughter. What you have done with Asma Shirazi, Gharidah Farooqi, and Sana Bucha, the country has not forgotten it.”

“Have the guts to take criticism,” reiterated Maryam.

Responding to the arrest of journalist Mohsin Baig by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), who is accused of initiating a debate on a television show with obscene references towards PM Imran Khan and Minister for Communication Murad Saeed, Maryam said, ” When Mohsin Saab was with you [Imran Khan], helped you with your political matters, at that time he was very nice. And now that he is criticising you, you should have had the guts to take the criticism. You used FIA against him. I feel sorry for your mental condition Imran Khan Saab.”

“People are cursing you for the price hike and increase in the petrol prices,” said Maryam, adding, “People don’t have fuel. The people of Pakistan do not travel on government-provided vehicles.”

“I agree that you [PM Khan] are not eligible, and do not have the qualification but I wish you had a heart which was kind. You have used the hard-earned money of the people of Pakistan just to settle your score with your opponents,” said the PML-N leader.

“You have made FIA, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a part of your politics to settle scores with your opponents. Despite the fact that you are a liar and fake, you are sitting on the seat of a prime minister of the country, you should have spent all your time serving the people of Pakistan, instead you utilised all your energy to take revenge on the Opposition,” said Maryam.

Talking to reporters after appearing at the Islamabad High Court in the Avenfield Apartments case, Maryam was asked if Shehbaz Sharif would resign as PML-N president if the “no-confidence gamble” failed.

Maryam responded that she was hopeful of the move’s success “because Imran is on his last legs and it’s a risk that should be taken”, adding that the messages sent by her party to disgruntled lawmakers were also applicable to the PML-N itself.

She did not elaborate on who she was referring to as “disgruntled” lawmakers or what messages were sent to them.

“If the opposition does not take a united stand here then we will be blamed for it. It’s ultimately the public that we have to go back to at the time of elections.”

Responding to a question on whether she supported another extension for the army chief, Maryam said “it’s a premature question and we don’t have any details before us”.

  • Avenfield trust deed can’t be called forged, says Islamabad High Court

Avenfield trust deed can’t be called forged, says Islamabad High Court

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday observed that the Avenfield trust deed involving Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and her brother Hussain Nawaz can’t be called forged or fake.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the appeals of Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar against their conviction in the Avenfield properties reference.

The court observed that since both Maryam and Hussain never disowned the Avenfield trust deed, it could not be a forgery.

“The trust deed can be termed back-dated or that the font used in the said document was different, but this cannot be called forgery,” said Justice Farooq.

The IHC judge made the observation when the bench was informed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that they had proved forgery in the trust deed. The IHC stated that a lack of evidence would result in a different verdict.

It mentioned that if the father made the property illegally and gave it to the son, would the daughter be found guilty? The court said that the petitioner should just prove that NAB could not prove the case, nothing else is required.

Maryam Nawaz’s counsel, Irfan Qadir, said that NAB did not complete the basic details of the case, the actual value, and source of the assets were not mentioned in advance. Also, it does not meet the requirements of Section 9-A of the NAB Ordinance. If the court wants, it can give bail to Maryam Nawaz.

NAB prosecutor Sardar Mazhar mentioned that Maryam Nawaz claimed to be the trustee of the property.

“NAB has proved through evidence that Maryam was their beneficial owner and forgery in the trust deed, which was confirmed by the trust deed deposited in the Supreme Court before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT).”

The court directed all the parties to look into the case papers and adjourned the hearing till February 17.

“There is unrest in the country; terrorism is on the rise once again […] I want to tell the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, (PTI) MPAs and MNAs: stop supporting the government,” the PML-N leader said.

“It’s my honest opinion: wear a helmet whenever you go to meet the people,” Maryam told PM Imran Khan, adding: “People will grab you from the collar, so be careful from now on,” said Maryam.

Maryam said that at first PML-N, supremo Nawaz Sharif did not favour moving a no-confidence motion against PM Khan. But, according to her, the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) convinced him to listen to people’s demands.

The PML-N leader said the masses also demand the prime minister’s ouster. “Nawaz heard people’s voice and backed the no-confidence motion,” she stated.

In response to the Opposition’s strategy, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that the PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam “orchestrated the drama of no-confidence motion” against PM Imran Khan in a bid to flee the country.
