Nawaz to fly to London today if name taken out from ECL

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who has been granted bail on health grounds in the multiple cases against him, is scheduled to fly out to London for treatment Monday morning.

According to the tickets booked in his name, Sharif will be flying out from Lahore on a commercial flight of Qatar Airways and 09:05 am in the morning. He will be accompanied by his brother Shehbaz Sharif and his personal doctor Dr Adnan Khan.

Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz will not be able to accompany her father abroad as she had to surrender her passport in order to secure her release on bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

The return ticket has been booked for November 27.

Despite the booking of tickets, media reports suggest that Nawaz’s name is still on the Exit Control List (ECL) and both the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Ministry of Interior couldn’t arrive at a decision regarding the removal of the name of the PML-N supremo from the ECL for one reason or another.

Chairman PML-N Raja Zafarul Haq speaking to a private media outlet said, “All the arrangements for his [Nawaz Sharif’s] treatment abroad have been finalized, and we are now just waiting for the government to remove his name from the ECL [Exit Control List.”

However, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi denied these allegations and said that the government had not created any hurdles to prevent Nawaz from travelling, adding that Sharif was allowed to go anywhere for his medical treatment.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb asserted that Sharif’s condition was critical and it was pertinent that he be sent abroad for treatment. She revealed that a high dose of steroids had been administered to Nawaz in preparation for his expected departure on Monday.

“Doctors have warned against giving him such high doses of steroids repeatedly,” she said. “They cannot risk any further damage in trying to get his platelet levels to rise.”

Aurangzeb said that the drop in the former premier’s platelet levels continues to worry doctors and that if Nawaz’s health worsens any further, it will be “almost impossible to take him abroad”.

Nawaz — who was previously hesitant to go abroad for treatment — is reportedly only going on the insistence of his ageing mother. As far as him flying out Monday morning is concerned, we’ll have to wait and watch.

Sixteen days after being treated at the Services Hospital in Lahore, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif arrived at Jati Umra where a special ICU has been set up for him.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, a special medical unit has been prepared at Sharif’s Jati Umra residence and he will be treated at home.

“An intensive care unit (ICU) has been prepared under the supervision of Dr Adnan (his personal doctor),” Aurangzeb said adding that an ICU ventilator and cardiac facilities have also been provided.

Sharing pictures of the unit on social media, Dr Adnan said that “a specialised HDU” has been established for Nawaz’s treatment “which is appropriately equipped and staffed 24/7.”

The doctors have banned visitors and will ensure that Nawaz remains under intensive care. The doctors have also advised Maryam Nawaz to take precautionary measures for the health of her father.

Meanwhile, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry took a jibe at the PML-N supremo and said that he was the first patient to move home from the hospital despite being sick.

On October 29, the Islamabad High Court suspended Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia corruption reference for eight weeks on medical grounds.

  • Maryam Nawaz still not released despite bail

Maryam Nawaz still not released despite bail

While the Lahore High Court granted bail to Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday, her release has so far been delayed due to procedural issues.

As per media reports, Maryam Nawaz’s lawyers were late in completing the necessary documentation. However, sources share that the delay wasn’t at Maryam’s lawyers’ end.

Due to the delay in her release, Mian Nawaz Sharif also did not shift to Sharif Medical City Hospital despite being discharged from Services Hospital on Tuesday. Mr. Sharif is adamant that he will shift only when Maryam Nawaz is released so that she can go with him.

Meanwhile, #ReleaseMaryamNOW trended on Twitter for several hours once news broke out that her release has been delayed due to procedural issues.

Some TV analysts speculated whether the delay in her release was related to a fear that she may address the Azadi March.

Maryam Nawaz granted bail in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.

A two-member bench of the LHC comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem announced the verdict. The legal representatives of Maryam and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) were also present in the court.

Maryam Nawaz had approached the high court on September 30 seeking post-arrest bail in the CSM case, in which she is suspected of money laundering.

Following the sudden deterioration in the health of her father, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, she then filed a miscellaneous petition on October 24 seeking immediate bail on the basis of fundamental rights and humanitarian reasons.

The bench had reserved its verdict in the case on October 31 after both the petitioner and NAB had concluded their arguments.

In its verdict, the court on Monday directed Maryam to submit her passport with the court besides two surety bonds of Rs100 million each. The court also directed the PML-N leader to deposit Rs70 million separately with the court.

According to her lawyer, bail has been granted on the merits of the case and not on humanitarian grounds.

Maryam and her cousin Yousuf Abbas were arrested by NAB on August 8 in the CSM case. Later, on September 25, they were sent to jail on judicial remand by an accountability court in Lahore.

NAB suspects PML-N president of involvement in money laundering through investments of variable heavy amounts being the main shareholder of the CSM. It has alleged that she was involved in money laundering with the help of some foreigners during the period of 1992-93, when Nawaz was the prime minister.

  • ‘Am I the doctor?’ asks Imran Khan after hearing about Nawaz Sharif’s failing health

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s conditioned worsened as his platelet count fluctuated and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, who was earlier denied permission to meet him, was allowed to do so. After her meeting with her father, she was admitted in the same hospital but family sources are now saying that the government wants to take Maryam back to the hospital “at any cost”.

Earlier, on Wednesday, a judge had denied Maryam’s request to meet her father but the government gave her permission last night.

Senior leadership, including Nawaz’s brother, Shehbaz Sharif, also went to visit Nawaz at Services Hospital in Lahore.

Sources say that Nawaz says that he wants to die in jail and that people have died in jail before. According to journalist Zahid Gishkori, doctors have said that Nawaz should get treatment abroad but the former PM is refusing to go out of the country. Reporters are also stating that a doctor has been flown in from Karachi to conduct further tests.

Journalist and senior anchor, Meher Bokhari tweeted about PM Khan’s reaction to the news, saying that the Prime Minister asked how he could be blamed for Nawaz’s health. She said that when she asked him about it, he “threw his arms up with a bewildered look on his face,” and said, “Am I the doctor? Am I the court? How am I being blamed for this?” and then called “Buzdar to arrange for Maryam to see NS”.

As #NawazneedsUNhelp starts trending on Twitter last night, people have also started Whatsapp groups to pray for Nawaz’s health and others are asking for international help, claiming that Nawaz has been poisoned.

  • Watch: PTI’s Usman Dar copies Maryam Nawaz’s old speech, praises PM Imran

Special Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, Usman Dar has copied Maryam Nawaz’s old speech in his address during Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf’s (PTI) “Kamyab Jawan Program” launch.

Usman Dar was praising PM Imran for launching this program to provide loans to the students and he copied the exact same words, Maryam Nawaz had used for praising former PM Nawaz Sharif after winning elections.

Maryam in her speech had said, “During elections campaign, your PM Nawaz Sharif had made some promises, and despite having a severe economic crisis, your PM has fulfilled this promise”.

While Usman during his address said, “During elections, PTI had promised that they would make the youth of Pakistan independent, and despite having severe economic crisis your PM has fulfilled this promise in the shape of Kamyab Jawan Program”.

Journalist Arshad Sharif during his talk show played both speeches from Usman and Maryam, side by side and asked from the special adviser whether he and Maryam have the same speechwriter.

Replying to this question Usman replied, “You wrote this speech, If he knew Arshad Sharif had written Maryam’s speech also, he wouldn’t have asked him to write his speech”.

Making a comeback to Usman’s answer Arshad said, “No, I am not such a cheap speechwriter”.

Nawaz Sharif advised to leave country with Maryam: report

Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has been advised to leave the country with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and to return at the right time, Dawn reported Friday.

According to reports, a property tycoon recently called on the jailed ex-premier and told him it was “in the best interests of everyone that he and his daughter left the country for now”.

The report also claimed that the said property tycoon was “the same gentleman who had earlier conveyed the message of an important person to Nawaz to step down as the premier”.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif also visited his elder brother on Thursday at the Kot Lakhpat Jail and their meeting has further fuelled rumours about the possibility of a deal that could lead to the Sharif family moving abroad for a few years.

However, it is also said that Nawaz is not ready to leave the country.

Meanwhile, PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb has trashed reports and denied the claim that Nawaz met any property tycoon in jail.

“Mian Sahib had returned to Pakistan along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz clearly knowing that he was going to jail in the Al-Azizia Mills case, leaving behind his beloved wife on death bed for the rule of law,” reports quoted Marriyum as saying.

  • ‘Maryam distances herself from NAB judge’s scandalous video’

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has informed the Supreme Court (SC) that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President (VP) Maryam Nawaz has “distanced herself” from the video scandal of ex-accountability court judge Arshad Malik, Express Tribune reported Thursday.

Maryam on July 6 had presented to journalists a secretly recorded video of judge Arshad Malik and claimed that he was “forced to give the verdict against Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference case”.

According to latest reports, FIA presented before the court a 105-page report, wherein it said that Maryam has now distanced herself from the video and placed burden of the details and specifics of the video upon Nasir Mehmood Butt.

Butt is the person who reportedly recorded the conversation during which Malik had allegedly confessed convicting Nawaz under pressure.

The FIA report further said that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has also distanced himself from the videotapes.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had on July 12 removed Malik as a judge and directed the registrar to repatriate him to his parent department, the Lahore High Court (LHC).
