    26th Amendment: PPP chief all praise for Maulana Fazlur Rehman in parliament

    Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid tribute to Chief Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman in parliament over his support for the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

    “Other than President Asif Ali Zardari, the second person I respect for their politics is Maulana Fazlur Rehman,” he said while addressing the National Assembly session on Sunday night.

    “Maulana’s efforts contributed the most to the success of the 26th Constitutional Amendment,” he maintained.

    Praising the political parties who voted in favour of the Constitutional Amendment bill, he forgot to mention the name of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).nehen his fellow lawmakers reminded him, he humorously stated, “How we can forget BAP, without BAP amendments can’t be passed.”

    Recalling the former dictators who ruled the country for around 33 years, he, in euphemistic words, declared the judiciary responsible for facilitating Martial laws over the past years.

    A high-profile meeting took place yesterday at the President’s House in Islamabad between the government and Chief Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, in which the proposed constitutional amendments were the focus.

    After the All Parties Conference (APC) held at the President’s house to show solidarity with Palestine, In a meeting with government officials, Chief JUI-F reportedly said that since the central leadership of his party was not present in the meeting, except for him and Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, no decisions could be made.

    Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman claimed that his party had prepared an 80 per cent draft of the constitutional amendments and would soon hand it over to the government’s negotiated team.

    It was stressed that a draft with common proposed constitutional amendments would be preferred.

    The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People Party (PPP) negotiated team would again engage with the JUI-F team in the upcoming week.

    President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif assured their support to Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and praised his efforts in promoting democracy.

    Maulana Fazl backs PTI in NA speech

    Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in his first speech in the National Assembly, criticised the ruling government, the recent general elections of February 8, civil bureaucracy and the establishment.

    Fazl emphasized that Pakistan was created through the democratic struggles of the people, “Neither bureaucracy nor establishment has a role in the creation of the country.”

    Maulana took the sitting assembly to task asserting, “Is this a parliament of representatives of the nation or a setup arranged by the establishment?”

    He also said this is the first kind of election in which the losers are upset and even the winners are not satisfied.

    The JUI-F leader also supported Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Qaiser’s demand for granting the right to the latter’s party to organise public gatherings, terming it the Imran-founded party’s “constitutional right”.

    Fazl said that his party raised objections to the previous 2018 general elections as well, terming it similarly “fraudulent”.

    While talking to the media after attending a training convention as the chief guest at Jamia Uloom-i-Sharia, Jamiat Ulama e Islam (Fazlur Rehman) emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman said,

    “It is out of the question that Imran, who is a product of a fake and bogus election, will return to power again.”

    He further said, “He has been disqualified because of his performance; his disqualification is a direct result of his own rule, governance, and policies.”

    He added that many in PTI are booked in several cases and will have to clear their names from cases pending in courts if they wish to contest the elections.

    While talking about general elections, he raised concerns over holding elections in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a time when they face extreme winters.

    “In January, weather would be harsh in Chitral, Khuzdar, and other parts of KP and Balochistan,” he said, adding that despite concerns, his party won’t demand any delay in polls.

    The JUI-F is ready to contest elections whenever the Election Commission announces a date, he said, adding that he is against the philosophy of “Caretaker Government”.

    “I don’t recognize the caretaker government because in [this] government, ‘caretakers’ are someone else,” he said in an apparent reference to the establishment.

    Nawaz free to fly back to Pakistan, name removed from ECL

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will go on his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia on April 27. He will be accompanied by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

    PM Shehbaz will call upon Saudi Prince Muhammad Bin Salman. The Pakistani delegation will also perform Umrah during the trip, reports The News.

    Member National Assembly Mohsin Dawar was supposed to accompany PM Sharif on his trip to Saudi but will most likely miss the trip as his name is on the Exit Control List (ECL). For being in the ‘anti-state category’, the names of Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir were not removed from the ECL as per the new policy.

    The new government removed the names of PM Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz, PML-N head Mian Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz from the Exit Control List (ECL) under a new policy, reported Azaz Syed for Geo News.

    Senior anchorperson Saleem Safi asked federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar why Dawar’s name has not been removed from the ECL when the Sharif family removed their own names. Tarar said that it is due to two categories of cases: one that deals with anti-terrorism, anti-state cases and narcotics while the other category is banking offences, misuse of authority, loans, etc. He added that now they will have to amend the Act and also take rules to the cabinet again.

    “I believe that when someone is an elected member of parliament and represents millions of people, there should be no travel ban for him/her. As a firm believer in human rights, I think this law is wrong and only should be applicable on extreme cases. But nobody should be placed on ECP indefinitely,” said Law Minister Azam Tarar.

    Last week, Maryam Nawaz filed a plea before the Lahore High Court (LHC) to get her passport back in order to travel travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah in Ramzan. She also said that she wants to travel to London to visit her ailing father, Mian Nawaz Sharif.

    “I want to go to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah but cannot because my passport is surrendered at the LHC,” read Maryam’s plea.

    ‘We still want immediate elections,’ Maulana Fazl tells the new govt

     Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded immediate elections.

    Addressing his party workers in Islamabad, Maulana said that the maximum time this new government would be in power for is a year.

    “In this new setup, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has its own identity and we are telling them [new government] that we still want immediate elections.”

    Maulana said that continuing to stay in power unnecessarily is not his party’s stance. The new government, he added, can take some time for electoral reforms but Maulana said that Imran Khan was ousted so that the people of Pakistan could be given their mandate back.

    “Now it is our responsibility to give back the nation what we promised.”

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also been demanding early elections. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that elections cannot be held before October as it needs four months to complete the process of delimitation of constituencies.

    JUI-F announces to place 10,000 Ansarul Islam volunteers in Islamabad for March 25 rally

    The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has announced on Thursday that 10,000 members of Ansarul Islam will provide security to marchers coming to Islamabad on March 25, reports Dawn.

    Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and JUI-F Chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman ordered all party workers to reach Islamabad on March 25 for the long march.

    According to the JUI-F media cell, the provincial council of the party held a meeting with Maulana Attaur Rehman, brother of Maulana Fazl ur Rehman, in Peshawar on Thursday. They discussed a plan in detail for the Islamabad rally against the government on March 25.

    Ansarul Islam is a group of volunteers force of the JUI-F that provides security to leaders and party workers during rallies and major events.

    MNAs, MPAs, and other local body members from JUI-F will lead a rally for Islamabad long march that will reach the capital on March 25.

    On March 10, Ansarul Islam members entered the Parliament Lodges to provide security to the Opposition lawmakers. The police raided lodges and arrested dozens of its members, including some prominent parliamentarians. JUI-F party workers blocked the highways in protest but later opened them after police released all members from JUI-F and Ansarul Islam.
