    Rs8 crore becomes unexpected star of ‘Sunn Mere Dil’

    What do you get when a drama revolves around a number that’s never been seen but constantly mentioned?

    The obsession with ‘8 crore’ in Sunn Mere Dil has taken the drama by storm, but not in the way fans would expect.

    Controversial writer Khail Ur Rehman Qamar, known for his misogynistic scripts and problematic plots, previously faced heavy criticism for ‘2 takay ke larki’, one of the dialogues from ‘Meray Paas Tum Ho’, and now, he is facing the same backlash for the constant use of ‘8 crore’ in Sunn Mere Dil.

    The ‘8 crore’ reference is to the conversation when Sadaf learns that her brother, Zaviyar, has cancer. The doctor says he could survive with a transplant, but the treatment is only available in the U.S. Sadaf goes to Bilal Abdullah’s office, where she meets him and asks for help. She requests him to lend her eight crore, saying, “Whatever you ask, I will do it.” Bilal agrees, signs the cheque, and hands it to her.

    Maya Ali and Wahaj Ali play the lead roles in Sunn Mere Dil, however, despite the hype, the execution has not had a positive response from fans.

    Maya Ali portrays Sadaf, and Wahaj Ali plays Bilal Abdullah.

    The script and character development have left viewers disappointed, with many questioning the storyline that seems to lack coherence.

    Now, ‘8 crore’ is the most discussed subject on social media as it has been persistently used in a number of episodes.

    Instagram blogger Miss Malik compiled a list of the many times ‘8 crore’ is referenced, and so far, it has been used 13 times in the drama.

    This is followed by another repeated dialogue: “crore chahiye” and “Mirza Shahab ne mujhe bola, please sir, peete waqt meri beti ko discus mat kare” said by Bilal played by Wahaj Ali.

    Fans have been vocal about their frustration with the constant repetition of 8 crores and its impact on the drama.

    A fan commented, “I can’t believe they keep talking about 08 crore like it’s just pocket change. The drama’s plot should be more than just this number.”

    A viewer couldn’t contain their amusement and commented, “The 8 crore obsession is so intense, and I’m starting to feel like I need it too. Who else is watching this drama just for that magic number?”

    Written by controversial writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and directed by Haseeb Hassan, ‘Sunn Mere Dil’ may have missed the mark in some areas, but one thing is for sure: ‘8 crore’ has taken over the conversation.

    It’s Friday, Mercury has stopped going in retrograde and everything is going back to normal, except for Pakistani dramas, which will keep scraping the bottom of the barrel to search for sexist content.

    It’s hilarious and yet quite terrifying how dedicated Pakistani dramas are to not provide what their audiences actually want: progressive storylines that recognise women as equals, rather than as props. But what currently popular trending dramas like ‘Yunhi’ prove, the best way to get ratings and to keep eyes glued to screens is to keep peddling the same sexist tropes over and over again and proclaim it as the standard content everyone should watch.

    ‘Yunhi’ began trending on social media this week when the actor playing the female lead on the show, Maya Ali, shared a clip from the latest episode. In it, her character is having an emotional, heart-to-heart with her father (played by fashion designer Deepak Perwani). Judged on performance alone, the scene is definitely tearjerking. However, we made the mistake of unmuting the video and heard the female character discuss how tragic it is for her to leave her father and how happy she is that her mother isn’t alive to see her wedding day.

    We should clarify here that Maya’s character is not heading off to war or to a distant land, but is actually getting married and leaving for her new home.

    Exactly what magical powers does a yellow mayun joraa hold, we want to ask Deepak Perwani, because of which a woman suddenly becomes a shadow of her past self and leaves behind her old family and friends? Does signing a marriage pact suddenly mean that over night, no woman can come back to her old home, and is now just the wife of the man that she has married?

    And most importantly, how is this supposedly tear jerking scene suppose to sit well in a country where women are taught that once they are married, they can never freely visit their families nor can they wear what they want or go where they want? They are not even allowed to escape domestic abuse.

    The message that Maya Ali likes, is once more, a terrifying reminder that for Pakistani families, marriages are basically equivalent to exiling women from their parents’ homes. And that for parents, including the dead mother who Maya is glad isn’t alive to watch her get married, the sole emotional and fundamentally important moment is their daughter getting married, nothing else.

    If these drama creators need any advice to show a rukhsati that actually makes the audience sob, take notes from ‘Kuch Ankahi’. That drama serial included a wedding scene where the phupoo (aunt) passionately defended women’s right to include protective clauses in the nikkahnama, and prove that women do not become strangers to their own families once they get married. They are still individuals with a personality, and definitely more than just the wives of the men they are getting married to.

    The Chan Ve diva wrote: “Yes, I will always respect this person for giving me a good time. Sometimes, shit happens and happens for a reason. And to answer all your questions, yes we have parted ways. but we both are doing good and fine so don’t worry.”

    Actor and morning show host Nida Yasir recently appeared on The Talk Talk Show where she marked the leading ladies of Pakistan out of ten for their acting skills.

    The host Hassan Chaudhry first asked her about Sarah Khan, and Nida gave her 7.5 marks for her acting chops. She then marked 8.5 to Ayeza Khan, 9.5 to Maya Ali, 7.5 to Minal Khan, and 7.5 to Mawra Hocane.

    The Nadaaniyaan diva stated that there is a scope for improvement in their performances.

    Nida also addressed other controversies surrounding her. She has long been under scrutiny for the type of guests she invites on her morning show, Good Morning Pakistan. From the likes of Dananeer Mobeen, Ayesha Mano to Ahmed Shah, Nida has invited them all to her popular show.

    However, throughout the years, many spectators have also criticised the TV host for not highlighting people with more academic achievements, and only catering to people who go viral online for ‘foolish theatrics’. Taking her chance, the famous host has finally set the record straight and reminded her audience about the many times she has provided limelight to such guests on her show.

    “I want to respond to this criticism by recalling the time I invited Ayesha, the girl who became viral on TikTok for her dance to my show. Many people started asking me why I didn’t invite a specific guest who has won academic awards. The truth is, you cannot even fathom how many shows I conduct that feature academic champs, but they never get high ratings,” said the Hum Tum actor.

    She then went on to highlight how Mobeen and Zara Naeem were invited on the same day together. “Once I even invited 7-8 people on one show, and they all possessed so many talented skills, but the episode went unnoticed. I also invited Zara and Dananeer together, still, people only remember the latter one better. How does the audience not recall Zara? This is not my fault, but actually of the people who want to see these guests on my show.”

    Yasir elaborated her stance by speaking about the repetitive narratives used in dramas. She noted, “If our Pakistani dramas are still stuck on producing family politics storylines, it’s because of the demand too. The channels will obviously try to create more dramas that give them more profitable responses.”

    Tired of the ongoing fuss, the Nadaaniyaan actor then put forth an interesting question for her critics. She asked, “When I do invite educated people to my show, why aren’t people watching them?”

    She also further explained how fans request her to feature guests on her show. “I also would like to add that people even tag me in photos now to show who they want to see on my show. When I woke up one morning, I saw a picture online of the ‘Lahore Da Pawa – Akhtar Lawa’ man doctored beside me, and that’s how I learned about the viral meme circulating on the internet. I also once got a call from a man who married a woman much younger than his age asking me to invite him as a guest because he’s gone viral. Like, should I just invite you because of your marriage?”

    Yasir then concluded the conversation by highlighting how viewers don’t give her the complete credit she truly deserves. “People just watch the viral clips of my show and assume that’s the only type of guests I invite, but that’s really not the case. I run a morning show that takes place every day, so I keep a proper balance of my guest list,” expressed the Yeh Zindagi Hai actor.

    Earlier this year when actor Ayesha Omar shared a horse-riding video from the sets of her film, Rehbra costarring Ahsan Khan, her post received backlash over their supposed explicit pose. The Bulbulay diva later edited the caption to include a note specifically aimed at those who had something unpleasant to say about it.

    “P.s. turned off comments! Don’t want negative energy around. We just doing our work baby and laughing through the hard, tough shoot to keep our energy, mood and focus up. It was freezing and raining and we hadn’t slept properly in days because of nonstop shoot. We had 30 minutes to finish the entire sequence. We still put in our best with smiles on our faces. And that’s NOT easy,” she wrote in the caption.

    The duo was quick to respond on their personal profiles, with Omar adding in a short note in her original post’s caption. In the note, Omar clarifies the context of the clip, including the cast keeping up morale in the midst of difficult shooting conditions.     Now the Fraud star has opened up on the scene in an exclusive interview with anchor Shahzad Iqbal on his show, Jashn-e-Cricket.

    Although initially Ahsan couldn’t control his laughter on being teased by Shahzad for the scene, later he revealed that the video was misinterpreted by netizens.

    Khan also shared the context of the scene and justified the duo’s positioning on the horse.
