    LHC summons PTA, federal govt and Information Ministry over internet disruption

    The Lahore High Court (LHC) has asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the Information Ministry, and federal government representatives to appear before the court on a petition pertaining to internet disturbance on the next hearing on August 21.

    Advocate Nadeem filed the petition stating that the internet shutdown should be declared unconstitutional and the government should ensure smooth internet.
    The petition stated that ‘’Internet shutdown is a violation of Constitution Article 9 (personal security), 18 (freedom of business), article 19 (freedom of speech).”

    “Apart from the general public, hundreds, if not thousands, of companies have also been affected. Ride-hailing companies like Bykea, Careem and InDrive have taken the brunt, as their users —drivers and passengers — need mobile data on the go,” the petition read.

    Air Link partners with Xiaomi for assembling TVs in Pakistan

    Air Link Communication Ltd. will start assembling Xiaomi televisions in Pakistan in January 2024. This noteworthy development, reported by Bloomberg, marks a strategic move forward for the company.

    Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Link, shared insightful details with the publication. He highlighted the collaborative partnership formed two years ago between Air Link and Xiaomi, focused on distributing mobile phones across Pakistan.

    Importantly, both companies foresee a streamlined investment process, as the assembly lines for the two product lines exhibit notable similarities.

    Bloomberg’s analysis sheds light on Pakistan’s positive economic transformation following a pivotal deal with the International Monetary Fund. This consequential agreement effectively doubled the nation’s foreign exchange reserves, elevating them to an impressive $8 billion. A key requirement of this agreement was the removal of all restrictions on imports, a significant move that has provided relief and opportunities for companies, including Air Link.

    Notably, Air Link’s journey has been one of progress, transitioning from breaking even to achieving profitability over the past six months. This serves as a testament to their resilience and strategic acumen, according to Air Link’s CEO.

    Air Link, which commenced operations as a mobile phone distributor a little over a decade ago, etched its name in history by spearheading Pakistan’s largest private sector initial public offering in 2021.

    Piracha highlighted this milestone while also outlining the company’s ambitious goal to ramp up monthly mobile phone production to an impressive 500,000 units by the end of the year, surpassing the current rate of 300,000 units.

  • ISI, Military Intelligence chiefs brief SC judges on security situation

    The heads of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Military Intelligence (MI) met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and two OTHER apex court judges who are hearing a case related to the election in Punjab on May 14 on Monday to update them on the security situation in the country.

    According to news reports, the meeting between the judges, the ISI, and MI chiefs continued for over three hours in the CJP’s chamber.It was reported that the intelligence official gave a briefing to the judges on the security issues confronting the country. However, specific outcomes of the meeting remain undisclosed.

    A three-member SC bench comprising Justice Bandial, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan had previously ordered that elections in Punjab be held on May 14 and declared the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to hold polls on October 8 as “unconstitutional”.

    Redmi’s President and General Manager Lu Weibing recently teased yet another future Redmi Note 11 variant. Presently, the Note 11 series offers a number of variants, still the tech giant is not done with it yet.

    The teaser graphic does not provide any features or design details, although the firm has previously hinted that the 11T phones will have a top-notch, turbo level performance. It is expected to include a number of performance-enhancing features.

    Redmi Note 11T Pro will include a 144Hz refresh rate LCD display, based on previous rumours. In China, it will be powered by MediaTek’s high-end Dimensity 8000 SoC, however, it is unclear what chipset would be used in the international or Pakistani variant. Also, the global variant will most likely have a different name.

    The Note 11T will have a 4,980 mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, while the Note 11 Pro will have a slightly smaller 4,300 mAh battery with 120W super fast charging.

    Redmi 11T phones will arrive in China before the worldwide market as the teasers are from China. A few months later, the Pakistani market and other countries will most certainly see an official release from the company.
