  • ‘Misbah was made chief selector, coach on Maulana Tariq Jamil’s recommendation’

Pakistani journalist Sohail Warraich has claimed that Misbahul Haq was given the role of both chief selector and head coach on the recommendation of famous religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil.

The journalist has made these claims in his latest column, in which he has said that no one in this country knows cricket better than Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and claimed that every change in Pakistan cricket is happening on PM Imran’s order.

Sohail said that Maulana Tariq Jamil is one of Pakistan’s most loved personality and rejecting his orders is considered as a grave sin, therefore PM Imran while honouring his love with Maulana Tariq “gave these responsibilities to Misbah”.

Warraich further claimed that batsman Babar Azam was made the captain of cricket team on Imran Khan’s order.

“Khan appointed Misbah as coach and chief selector and Babaq Azam as team’s captain, but he [Imran] shouldn’t be held responsible for their poor performance”, Sohail added.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed had said that PM Imran Khan will now focus on improving sports, especially cricket.

“The premier could not concentrate on cricket earlier as he was focused on stabilising the economy and strengthening the institutions, which were in shambles”, reports quoted Faisal Javed as saying.

The statement from the senator came after Pakistan cricket team’s poor performance against Australia and Srilanka in Test and T20 series, respectively.

Fawad Alam gives another reminder to Misbah with his third century

Sindh’s Fawad Alam has scored yet another century in the
Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on Thursday, this time making the Balochistan bowlers toil
    in Karachi.

As per reports, Batsman Fawad, who famously smashed a double
century in the previous round, was at it again as he brought up the 34th ton of
    his glittering first-class career.

It was his third century of the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He
also scored a double century in the previous round’s fixture against Southern
    Punjab.

Fawad’s purple patch could be a timely reminder of his talent
for the chief selector and head coach Misbahul Haq, who is set to announce the
national squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka cricket
    team.

Former legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had earlier claimed
that Fawad Alam would be picked for the series against Sri Lanka.

Shoaib in a video on his YouTube channel had said that Fawad has
proved with his performance that he is a good choice for the squad in series
    against Sri Lanka.

Ramiz Raja not happy with Misbah’s selection

Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja is disappointed with the 20 probables selected by head coach-cum-chief selector Misbahul Haq for the upcoming T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka.

While speaking in a Youtube video, the famous commentator has criticised Misbah for implementing a safety first approach in his selection.

He said, “It was disappointing to see no new name or experimentation from Misbah, despite playing against a second-string Sri Lanka side,” adding that Misbah is playing safe as it is his first big assignment and is opting for tried and tested players.

Ramiz Raja believes that Men in Green needs out of the box thinking with regards to the future.

“You could have invited around four to five players to this camp, who you think are talented and have what it takes to serve Pakistan in future,” he added. “Instead, those players have been recalled who have been playing for Pakistan for last 10 years and we are aware of their potential and limitations.”

“I have always wanted to bring professionalism to the team. From top to the bottom and bottom to the top into the team”, he added.

About the criticism that has been coming the team’s way, he said, “I know how to handle criticism, the key is to listen to people and if it is important then a person should have enough to listen and improve themselves”.

However, he said that if the criticism is relevant then you should know how to handle that as well.

Meanwhile, former chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq reportedly earned Rs 1.6 million (16 lakhs) per month for his role.

Misbah is Pakistan’s most successful Test captain with 26 wins in 56 Tests and 11 draws. He played 75 Tests, 162 one-day internationals and 39 T20 matches for Pakistan.

Misbah likely to become both chief selector, head coach

Former skipper Misbahul Haq has been tipped to play a dual role as both the chief selector and head coach of the Pakistan cricket team under the new model developed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Dawn News reported Friday.

According to reports, the selectors and the team management would previously start a blame-game to avoid taking responsibility for any poor show. However, this development is expected to help the board hold a specific authority/person accountable in case of any defeats.

In this regard, PCB has also appointed Misbah as the camp-commandant for the pre-season training camp being held at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore from August 22 to September 7.

The former captain reportedly selected the players for the camp himself and will also coach them during the training session, which will further prove his skills for the dual role that he is likely to be assigned soon.

PCB Cricket Committee had earlier sacked head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden over the national cricket team’s poor performance at the 2019 World Cup.
