Afridi-led Rawalakot Hawks crowned champions of KPL 2021

Shahid Afridi’s Rawalakot Hawks defeated Mohammad Hafeez-led Muzaffarabad Tigers by seven runs in an epic final of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) 2021.

Chasing a target of 170 runs, the Tigers were restricted to 162 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

They went off to a decent start with Hafeez (29 off 21) and Zeeshan Ashraf (46 off 26) putting up 54 runs for the opening partnership.

However, Hafeez’s departure triggered Tigers’ collapse as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

Hawks’ skipper Afridi, who was playing despite not being fully fit, removed Ashraf and Sohaib Maqsood in the middle overs to keep his side in the hunt.

All-rounder Hussain Talat also chipped in with three wickets to stem the flow of runs.

His economical bowling spell, 3 for 18 in four overs, was instrumental in laying the platform for the side’s victory.

Batting first, the Hawks posted 169 runs in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of Kashif Ali’s brilliant 28-ball 54.

For Tigers, Hafeez and Usama Mir claimed two wickets each.

Expressing his joy, Afridi took to Twitter and wrote: “So proud of my players and staff, one of the most memorable wins for me! The KPL was a wonderfully organised event and it has great potential, I’m sure next year will be bigger and better.”

He also thanked the Pakistan Army: “Special thank you to Pakistan Army for their wonderful support throughout.”

Ramiz Raja, Michael Vaughan hit out at Pakistan’s ‘pathetic’ performance after England loss

Former cricketers and commentators Ramiz Raja and Michael Vaughan hit out at the “pathetic” performance of Pakistan cricket team after losing to England by nine wickets in the first One-Day International (ODI) match on Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, Raja wrote: “#PakvsEng a bit of a disaster this  getting a pasting from an England second XI, losing with 169 balls to spare. Pretty rubbish we were today!”

In a tweet, Vaughan said, “Love watching Pakistan play Cricket. A team that can beat any team in the world on any given day but also lose to any team on any given day.”

In another tweet, former England captain wrote: “For England, to rock up only yesterday as a team and perform like they did tells us so much about the culture of the white ball team, very, very impressive. For Pakistan they were PATHETIC. It’s the only way to describe a performance like that.”

England’s makeshift ODI team put the Covid-19 issues that hit the previous squad behind them to bowl out Pakistan for 141 runs before cruising to a clinical nine-wicket win in the three-match series opener.

Chasing 142 for a 1-0 lead in the series, England cruised home in 21.5 overs.

Sarfaraz vs Hafeez memes break the internet

All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez and former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed have faced each other for the first time since after their Twitter spat, and memers cannot stop flooding social media with hilarious memes.

Lahore Qalandars on Monday chased a 179-run target to beat Sarfaraz’s Quetta Gladiators in the fourth fixture of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL).

The match, during which Sarfaraz seemed visibly perturbed over his team’s performance, had followed a spat between Hafeez and Sarfaraz after the former congratulated Mohammad Rizwan for his century against South Africa in the T20 series.

Here is what memers had to post…

Taking to Twitter, Hafeez had earlier written, “Congratulations @iMRizwanPak on scoring T20 hundred. U r a Star shining star Wonder how long u need to prove that u r NO1 wicketkeeper/Batsman in Pakistan in all formats of the game.”

Sarfraz, responding to the all-rounder’s Tweet wrote, “Hafeez bhai Sb, whoever has played for Pakistan from Imtiaz Ahmed, Wasim Bari, Tasleem Arif to Saleem Yousuf and from Moin Khan, Rashid Latif to Kamran Akmal and even Rizwan right now has always been number ONE for the country and have been respected accordingly.”

  • ‘Shallow-minded approach exposed,’ says Hafeez after Sarfaraz criticises him

Mohammad Hafeez has hit back Sarfaraz Ahmed after the latter criticised him for his recent statements.

“Shallow minded approach exposed,” wrote Hafeez on Twitter. Though he did not specify who the tweet was directed towards, it is being speculated that the tweet was for Sarfaraz who had earlier called him out for spreading negativity.

Earlier, Sarfaraz, while responding to Hafeez’s tweet, in which he had praised Mohammad Rizwan for his performance and “wondered” how long the batsman will have to prove himself, had said: “Hafeez Bhai, whoever has played for Pakistan from Imtiaz Ahmed, Wasim Bari, Tasleem Arif to Saleem Yousuf and from Moin Khan, Rashid Latif to Kamran Akmal and even Rizwan right now has always been number one for the country and have been respected accordingly.”

Ahmed also said that everyone is behind Rizwan and hope he plays many more innings for Pakistan.

Aur ayende bhee jisko bhee chance milega wo Pakistan ke liye number one hee huga (And whoever is given a chance to play would be number one for Pakistan),” said Sarfaraz, adding: “We expect nothing but positiveness coming from an international player who has played so many games for Pakistan.”

Later, replying to Sarfaraz’s tweet, Mohammad Amir who is currently feuding with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) management said: “You are also a number one wicketkeeper-batsman in Pakistan aur aap hi captain the jab team 2 saal team No 1 rahi in T20 or sab se bar kar Champions Trophy so you are [the] pride of Pakistan (You were the Captain when the Pakistan Cricket Team was the number one T20 team).”

Meanwhile, social media users have set the internet ablaze with supporters from both sides weighing in their arguments, opinions and comments.

  • Hafeez says his 12-year-old son has better game awareness than Ramiz Raja

Hafeez says his 12-year-old son has better game awareness than Ramiz Raja

Mohammad Hafeez’s induction into Pakistan’s squad for the New Zealand tour has led to a rift between the all-rounder and cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja.

According to reports, the war of words got intensified after Hafeez stated that his 12-year-old son has better game awareness than Raja.

The episode began after Ramiz Raja showed disinterest over Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) backing experienced players and not giving enough chances to the youth ahead of the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup in India.

The former Pakistan cricketer asked senior cricketers like Hafeez to retire gracefully and give opportunity to the youngsters to showcase their skills on a stage like the upcoming World Cup.

Disagreeing to Raja’s views, Hafeez gave a controversial statement during a conversation with Cricket Pakistan.

“I acknowledge Ramiz [Raja] services for Pakistan cricket as a player. I respect his opinion but I have reservations over his cricketing sense and game awareness. If you talk to my 12-year-old son, even his game awareness is better than Ramiz Bhai,” Hafeez told Cricket Pakistan.

“If Ramiz bhai wants to continue saying such things to boost his YouTube channel, then I can’t stop him but I will continue to play for Pakistan as long as I’m fit and performing,” he further added.

Hafeez asserted that as long as he is fit and performing on the field, he deserves a place in the Pakistan dressing room.

“If I’m unable to meet the fitness and performance standards, or believe there is a better product ready for Pakistan, I’d happily leave. I’m very satisfied with my cricketing career,” Mohammad Hafeez said.

  • Hafeez, who tested positive for coronavirus at PCB, tests negative at private lab a day later

A day after testing positive for coronavirus at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohammad Hafeez says he has tested negative at a private facility.

On Tuesday, Hafeez was announced as one of ten Pakistani national cricket team players who tested positive for the virus as the entire 29-man squad due to fly out to England on June 28 underwent COVID-19 testing.

Hafeez, however, got himself tested from a different lab in Lahore for a “second opinion” for him and his family. That result, he said in a tweet, was negative.

All of PCB’s tests were conducted by Shaukat Khanum Laboratory.

Other players who tested positive for the virus include Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan, and Wahab Riaz.

Apart from the seven players, one support personnel — the masseur — also contracted the illness after the cricket body had 35 tests carried out for COVID-19 in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar.

Pakistan’s Test and limited-overs squads will tour England for three Tests and three T20 internationals.

England director of cricket Ashley Giles has said that the tour is expected to go ahead.

Hafeez comes under fire for criticising LHC’s decision to allow Nawaz to fly to London

After the Lahore High Court granted permission to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to fly to London without any conditions for four weeks for medical treatment, former Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Hafeez took to Twitter to question whether this decision is admission that Pakistan lacks proper medical care.

“It means we 200 million Pakistani are not safe here? Just asking,” he wrote.

Following the cricketer’s tweets, people took to attack him and question why he also opted to get treatment in the UK when he hurt his thumb in the past.

Other’s dug up an old video of his in which he is seen wishing Nawaz Sharif good health.

Meanwhile, others took to defend the cricketer and his decision to get treated in the UK.
