‘It’s not just my story, it’s Sharjeena’s too’: Fahad Mustafa on ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’

Fahad Mustafa, the lead actor for ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’, has yet again made headlines, but this time, for praising the team that made the drama a massive hit.

“The story in this drama isn’t just mine, it’s Sharjeena’s too… and in my opinion, this is the only drama in many years where every character has done a great job,” he said in conversation with Bollywood Hungama when asked if he thought the audience was biased towards Mustafa as compared to Sharjeena.

Reflecting on his ability to connect with viewers, Fahad replied, “Look, I’ve always had an issue with connecting with the audience. It’s a rare thing, but I always say that I’m gifted. Maybe the audience feels like I’m one of them. I look like a common man, I’m a common guy, the boy next door. So, there’s this idea that if a hero can be someone like me, then anyone can be a hero. This is how I quickly connect with the audience, so bias automatically comes into play.”

“It’s not just about Mustafa and Sharjeena… even the parents, Adil, Rubab and even the brother-in-law who played the role so well. Our sister [Maya Khan], she was very famous in our time… during PTV days, anyone who came on TV became a star overnight,” he added.

Fahad also opened up about his connection with fans, the success of the drama serial and the importance of collaboration between Pakistan and India while commenting on the drama’s success across the border.
“It’s a good thing that we work internationally… I worked with Om Puri, and when he came to Pakistan, he worked with me. I also worked with Kamaljeet and had interviews with Naseer Saab, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, and many others,” he said.

Fahad maintained that artists on either side of the border should interact on an equal basis so that projects on both sides can be at the same level. “Right now, people from India love our dramas. I don’t understand why we don’t work together, what’s the problem? At least both sides should have positivity, because people love each other.”

The ‘Actor In Law’ actor also highlighted the cultural connect between Pakistan and India, recalling moments where fans from both countries bonded over mutual love for cricket and dramas.

“Our people get visas to go to India, and many people come here. I play a lot of cricket so when I go to any ground, I usually meet Pakistani and Indian fans… some of whom are visiting their relatives here,” Fahad concluded.

  • THAT shirt scene in Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum fans can’t get over

THAT shirt scene in Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum fans can’t get over

Fahad Mustafa’s return to television after 10 years with Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum has been a massive hit. The serial has enthralled audiences across the globe, creating a fanatic fan base.

One moment that fans can’t stop talking about is the iconic “shirt scene”.

Fahad portrayed Mustafa, a character with a funky and laid back fashion sense. A unique twist in the story delighted viewers when his on screen wife, Sharjeena, began borrowing his oversized shirts to wear at home.

During a recent appearance on Something Haute hosted by Hassan Choudhry, Fahad Mustafa revealed the story behind the iconic shirt scene from Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.

The host asked, “The idea of creating highly realistic characters and showing Hania and you switching outfits, whose idea was that?”

Fahad replied, “You know, intimacy has its own heights, we’re quite restricted when it comes to television, and many scenes that we showcased were innocent and very cute. There wasn’t a cringe worthy moment or anything that would make you feel uncomfortable.”

“We thought, what could be the height of romance? If you’re truly in love with someone, what would you do, but then again, how could we show that? We can’t dance or do much else here. I think the maximum we could do was hold hands, and that’s about it,” he observed.

The Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum actor shared how the beloved shirt scene came to life.

“There’s a scene where she comes out of the bathroom, and I ask her, ‘What are you doing?’ We decided to just play with it. What I liked most was how the audience connected. If you show them things that happen to them or things that are normal, that’s where the romance lies. Romance isn’t about descending from helicopter with flowing hair,” Fahad Mustafa laughingly said.

In the same interview, he also talked about his favorite scene from Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum.

Talking about his favorite scene from Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, Fahad Mustafa said, “The scene between Sharjeena and Mustafa that I like the most is the last scene, I really love that scene, and no one could have made that last scene, no one could have thought of it, no one could have created it.”

The Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum actor didn’t hold back when talking about the hurdles he faced as a producer and actor. He expressed frustration about how money often overshadows the creative process.

“I was a bit angry during the production of Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum. When I talked to anyone, all they were focused on was how much money they will make. I know that I would earn a lot of money from this drama, a lot of money, but it’s not about money. In any project, you have to be fully involved. If it doesn’t make any difference, there’s no benefit,” Fahad said

‘The connection is very different’: Areej Chaudhary on Mustafa and Sharjeena

Actress and model Areej Chaudhary, who plays the character of Natasha in the hit drama serial Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, recently opened up about her role and the lessons viewers can learn from the storyline.

Recently, she gave an interview to Connect Cinne, where Areej reflected on the chemistry between Mustafa and Sharjeena.

The host, Fardioon Shahryar, asked, “There has been a lot of discussion about Mustafa and Sharjeena’s chemistry. What’s your take on it? Do you find it amazing and one of the reasons it has connected with audiences worldwide?”

Areej said, “Their connection is very different. The first thing I want to tell you about them is that Sharjeena was getting married to someone else, but it didn’t happen, so what happened was she got married to Mustafa.”

The Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum actress also spoke about the unexpected turns of life, sharing her thoughts.

“But you see how things turned out—you didn’t like a person at first, and suddenly you end up marrying them. Sometimes you feel like your chemistry with someone isn’t going to work, but you never really know. You never know when you might develop amazing chemistry with someone. A person you didn’t expect can become the best companion for you,” Areej said.

“I think this is a lesson for people, and it’s a beautiful thing that shows us that sometimes the decision we make, thinking, ‘This person is perfect for me, I should marry them,’ doesn’t turn out to be right in the long run. And sometimes things happen accidentally, by nature or by God’s will, and it turns out to be a miracle for you, becoming much better than expected,” the Sitam actress added.

  • Want a job in Rubab’s company? You might have to kill Adeel first

Want a job in Rubab’s company? You might have to kill Adeel first

Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum has captured audiences with its gripping storyline, and the character played by Naeema Butt is one of the most discussed roles in the drama.

In a recent interview on ARY Digital, she was asked the most-searched Google questions about her character.

When asked about how to get a job in Rubab’s company, Butt jokingly said, “For that, you’d have to kill Adeel because I’m not going to offer jobs just like that. It’s just about love.”

Another question was also asked, “How do you get hair like Rubab.”

“First of all, it’s important to acknowledge that I am a creation of Allah, as we all are. Secondly, it’s about your genes and who your parents are, so choose good parents if you can. Thirdly, maintaining a good diet is essential. Whenever I try to lose weight and don’t eat enough carbs, my hair becomes thin. It’s important to have a balanced diet that includes proteins, carbs, and fibre. Vitamins play a significant role. I take biotin and collagen, which help with hair health. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, manage your stress levels, and get enough sunlight for that vitamin D”, Butt explained.

As for Rubab’s accent, Naeema said, “Well, it can be any accent you like: British, American, Pakistani, or even a blend. It’s all about Rubab’s style.”

  • Can you imagine Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum with different actors?

Can you imagine Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum with different actors?

When it comes to casting the perfect actors for a drama serial, every little detail counts, especially for a drama like ‘Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum’ which has become popular because of its gripping storyline and brilliant performances.

But have ever wondered what the drama would be like with a completely different cast?

Hania Aamir plays the character of Sharjeena, and Emmad Irfani plays the character of Adeel.

Recently, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum director Badar Mehmood appeared on Gloss Etc by Maliha Rehman.

“This is a collective decision, when the story is written and the script is prepared, there are some writers’ inputs involved. The writer (Farhat Ishtiaq) specifically told me that she wanted Hania Aaamir to be cast, and for Emmad Irafani, she mentioned that too. Fortunately, we got both of them because, as you know, there are timeline issues and commitments. The only concern is that there shouldn’t be any commitments. So it was just luck that we managed to get both of them for this drama.”

The host asked, “They also said that if the chemistry is good, the drama will progress well. Did you know from the beginning that this romance might require some censorship?”

Mehmood replied, “Until now, we haven’t had to face any issues on TV. However, when the 25th episode aired, a censor issue came up that I had to address because it was related to romance. In the 25th episode, there’s a scene where Fahad is lying on the bed, and Hania is resting her head on his shoulder. I initially took a wider shot, but then I made it more compact. I thought, when I saw the drama that was the wider shot with both of them lying down and talking. I made it more compact so that it wouldn’t cause too much concern on TV.”

Badar also highlighted how important it is to show closeness in a respectful way, especially when it involves portraying different types of relationships on screen.

“It also depends on the relationship, if it’s a husband-wife relationship, I feel there should be some allowance for that. I spoke to the censor board and said, ‘It’s a husband-wife relationship, it should be fine.’ But if it’s a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, I understand that certain boundaries should definitely be maintained. That’s the beauty of a husband-wife relationship, it should be  shown,” Badar Mehmood added.

Ya’ll the whole stages of ishq scene was cute and stuff but i was more focused on the last stage, that is mout. I had to go back and see the first teaser of the drama and guess what i found!! “Sab kuch dao pe lag sakta hai, zindagi be”

Does that mean— Couldn’t help crying in this scene…it was such a simple scene yet such nuanced writing and performance.
