    Further reduction in naan prices by Punjab government

    The Punjab government has set the new price of plain bread in the province at Rs 14, effective from tomorrow.

    Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz issued a statement on the reduction in the price of naan, stating that while the price of plain bread is fixed at 14 rupees in Lahore, prices in other cities is fixed at 12 to 14 rupees.

    Previously, the Punjab government had reduced naan price to Rs 16.

    The Naanbai Association has announced a strike, starting tomorrow, across Punjab including Lahore.

    According to the Association, the district administration of Lahore is silent on their demands.

    During the strike, tandoors across the province will be closed down.

    The demand is to issue a new notification on the price of roti and naan.

    The Association has also demanded that the price of naan be kept open while wheat flour be supplied as per demand of cheaper rotis.

    The Nanbai Association of Lahore has summoned a meeting to discuss a raise in the price of roti and naan, ARY has reported.

    The Association is considering raising the price of roti and naan by Rs11 in the provincial capital.

    The owners of tandoors requested approval from the Lahore district administration to raise the price of naan and roti to Rs35 and Rs25 respectively, citing a hike in wheat prices for raising rates of the dietary staples.

    An uptick of smuggling of wheat and subsidised flour bags to other provinces has led to the price of flour in the Punjab capital increase by Rs5 per kilogramme to Rs140.
    Smuggling has exacerbated Punjab’s flour problem, increasing open-market prices to an all-time high. According to sources, subsidised flour bags were being smuggled into Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkwa at a cost of Rs2,400 per bag.

    The Nanbai Association in Punjab’s capital city has hinted at increasing the price of naan and roti in the city, calling a meeting to determine the price.

    The prices of Roti and Naan are expected to increase by Rs2 to Rs3.

    According to details, Aftab Gul, the President of the Association, has said that the increase in the price of roti and naan has been proposed because of the increase in price of wheat in the market. In addition, he said that non-availability of gas, wood and expensive LPG are among reasons behind the expected increase.

    Aftab Gul also said that the price of a 15 kg bag of wheat has increased from Rs1400 to Rs1775, while a bag of fine flour has increased from Rs8500 to Rs9500.
