‘Doctors recommend Nawaz Sharif to get married, suffers from broken heart syndrome’, Twitter reacts to Shahbaz Gill

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill took to Twitter and made fun of Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz’s (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports.

Gill tweeted, “Dr Sahib [Fayaz Shawl] has indirectly tried to recommend that Nawaz Sharif should get married.”

Gill’s remark comes after Nawaz Sharif’s latest medical report was submitted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on February 1, which said that he suffers from broken heart syndrome possibly caused by the demise of his wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, who passed away on September 11, 2018 in London after a long battle with cancer.

The three-page medical report – authored by Dr Fayaz Shawl, advised Sharif against undertaking any travel “without undergoing a definitive treatment in London”.

“If he [Sharif] returns to solitary confinement, he may develop what we call the takotsubo syndrome due to stressful environment” and it could have “devastating consequences”, Dr Shawl warned in the report.

Twitterati reacted to Gill’s tweet. Here are some reactions.

Dr Osama Siddique said, “This man does have one qualification that no one can beat. And that qualification is that he is deeper than anyone breathing. Which is to say that he routinely sinks lower than anyone else conceivably can.”

Nawaz Sharif’s son claims an ‘almost official’ person contacted Nawaz’s doctor, sent abusive e-mail

Hussain Nawaz, son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, lashed out at the government and said that neither Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan nor his party members have any say when it comes to Nawaz’s health. He was speaking on Geo News‘ programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’.

Anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada asked Hussain why the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif are not being sent to Pakistan and why was the family sending a doctor’s opinion and not legitimate reports for the medical boards to examine. “We don’t need it, Dr Shawl is a world-renowned doctor. Whatever he says is enough,” responded Hussain.

Khanzada further questioned that Sharif addresses the people, gives speeches, visits restaurants but just doesn’t come back to Pakistan. He asked if the family didn’t trust the courts of Pakistan anymore, to which Hussain said, “There must be a reason as to which Nawaz Sharif is not coming back. Everyone is concerned about his health.”

Hussain further said the courts have not yet asked for the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif, adding, “Let’s not talk about what has not happened yet.”

Referring to the contact of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government and the doctors in London written in the affidavit signed by the family on Nawaz’s departure to London, Hussain said, “They [government] should reveal who did they contact to ask about Nawaz’s health. Did they write a letter? They should provide names of the people they contacted.”

Hussain further said that the family doesn’t care about these contacts anymore. He also revealed that Dr Shawl was contacted and abusive e-mails were sent to him.

“An abusive, disrespectful e-mail was sent to a professional like Dr Shawl. He has complained about it to us as well. Who did this?” said Hussain.

Khanzada, interjecting Hussain, said, “Did someone from the officials sent the e-mail to Dr Shawl?” Hussain responded, “It’s almost official. Ask any neutral person, who can have a problem with Dr Shawl. Who can take out his/her anger and frustration on a professional?”

Khanzada said that it is indeed disrespectful and further asked if the government contacts Dr Shawl, will he present his medical opinion on Nawaz Sharif? “He will stand by the content mentioned in the report and will co-operate,” responded Hussain.

On the question of a viral video of Nawaz Sharif where he was spotted visiting a factory with his son Hussain Nawaz and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other people, Hussain said that the video was four to five months old, adding that he took his father outside for a “change in environment” as he was not feeling well.

Hussain clarified and said that due to Covid-19 SOPs, factories in the United Kingdom (UK) are understaffed.

Hussain further added that visiting someone’s factory is not a sin and Nawaz Sharif went out for just two hours.

Hussain Nawaz also lashed out at the incumbent government over the leaked video of PML-N supremo Nawaz, asking why the government did not bring this video to the media before.

Nawaz Sharif’s latest medical report was submitted in the Lahore High Court on February 1. According to the submitted report, Nawaz’s doctor has stopped him from travelling.

Nawaz Sharif’s medical report was been prepared by Dr Fayaz Shawl, Director Interventional Cardiology, and has been submitted to the court through Amjad Pervez Advocate.

PM Khan slams SCBA for ‘supporting criminals, fugitives’

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday slammed the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) over its decision to file a petition against lifelong disqualification.

PM Khan said that one of the leading lawyers’ bodies in the country has gone to court for a “thief” who ran to London by “lying”.

PM Khan, without taking the name of former PM Nawaz Sharif, said, “If this is how things are, then what is wrong with stealing?”

“They [SCBA] are asking the court to give him [Nawaz Sharif] one more chance. SCBA’s next petition should be to open [the doors] of all the jails,” said PM Khan while addressing the launch ceremony of the Sehat Insaf Card in Bahawalpur.

Referring to the criminals who were behind bars, the premier said: “If you don’t see the evil in it, then why are these poor souls behind bars? First, let them out… The next petition should be to open all jails and free all those people who have been imprisoned for theft.”

PM Khan further said that only the powerful get away unpunished. “They can do whatever they want. Both his sons are… living in London in properties worth billions of rupees. London is the most expensive city in Europe and their properties are located in the most expensive parts of the city.”

“Till a nation does not unite to fight [against wrongdoing], the rule of law will not prevail. Our struggle is against bandits,” said PM Imran.

When asked about PM Khan’s comments about the petition, President SCBA Mohammad Ahsan Bhoon responded by narrating an incident about humans.

Last week, the SCBA filed a petition against the lifelong disqualification of lawmakers and said that such a law without the right to appeal is unjust.

It is pertinent to mention here that the result of this petition can affect the outcome of SC verdicts disqualifying Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif, as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen.

Nawaz Sharif majorly stressed out after wife’s death, can get worse

Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s latest medical report was submitted in the Lahore High Court today (February 1). According to the submitted report, Nawaz’s doctor has stopped him from travelling.

Nawaz Sharif’s medical report has been prepared by Dr Fayaz Shawl, Director Interventional Cardiology, and has been submitted to the court through Amjad Pervez Advocate. The medical report further said that Nawaz Sharif should continue his medication and take a walk in the open air. He has also been advised to take precautionary measures against corona while walking. In view of the current global coronavirus epidemic in the world, Nawaz Sharif should refrain from any kind of travel and public places such as airports, stated his medical report.

His medical report says that Nawaz Sharif is under more pressure after the death of his wife, Kulsoom Nawaz. Nawaz should continue his activities without stress. He is currently under severe mental stress and depression can worsen Nawaz Sharif’s illness.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, while commenting on Nawaz’s health, said, “You are making fun of the rule of law in the country by submitting such reports.”

“Nawaz should return the money of the people and continue living in London. This report is full of lies. The report should also have mentioned that Nawaz Sharif should only be allowed to walk in Hyde Park, otherwise his stress will increase,” said Fawad.

Fawad further said, “I hope the courts will take notice of how Nawaz left Pakistan and his fake medical reports.”

  • Zardari, Nawaz, Maulana have all been ruined by one man: Saleem Safi

Zardari, Nawaz, Maulana have all been ruined by one man: Saleem Safi

Senior journalist Saleem Khan Safi, while speaking on Geo News programme, ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, said that there was one man who had ruined the politics for many in Pakistan. Safi was giving his analysis on the recent Senate fiasco after the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Amendment Bill 2021 was passed on January 28.

“Zaradri, Nawaz Sharif aur Maulana sub ki siyasat ko aik banday nay fail kar diya hai [One man has led to the failure of Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, and Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s politics],” Safi said alluding to Chairman of Senate Sadiq Sanjrani.

Safi went on to say that what happened in Senate on January 28 was a collective failure. “This is the failure of the Opposition that they could not devise a joint strategy against the government. This Opposition does not carry the traits of the Opposition. This entire matter was part of the script. It started with Yusuf Raza Gilani becoming the Leader of the Opposition, to the passing of various bills. Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was the mastermind behind it all and he was the one who devised this script.”

“Sanjrani is our friend and a respected man. There was a time when he was in charge of the complaint cell in Gilani’s government. Giani played a role in the script prepared by Bilawal and former president Asif Ali Zardari. I will consider Gilani’s resignation as part of the script as well,” added Safi.

Senior journalist Fahd Husain, who also was part of the panel on the show, said, “This is very obvious that the Opposition was given a clear message that they will not block the [SBP Amendment] bill.”

Agreeing with Safi, Husain said that how the events unfolded themselves makes it very obvious that everything that happened was pre-planned. “The way all this happened and the way the people went missing, they did not turn up, I will say that this was done in a rather crude manner. The Opposition should have taken advantage of this scenario and should have said that the government got the bill passed in an illegitimate manner, they [Opposition] have now got all this on themselves.”

Husain further said that what happened in the Senate cannot be fully put on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He said that the mistrust built between Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) and PPP over Yusuf Raza Gilani becoming the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate is still there and we are witnessing history repeating itself.

Anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada asked Safi if the Opposition was a threat to the government. Safi said that the entire fuss of the Opposition was mainly to prove that they actually are the Opposition. Just like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), all this suits the PPP. If early elections take place, the PPP is of the view that they might not get to rule Sindh as well. “All these marches are just tactics to prove themselves as the Opposition,” said Safi.

“They [Oppostion] have not devised a concrete methodology towards their policies. We are ignoring the role of Sadiq Sanjrani in all this. If Zardari wants to rule completely, he should make Sanjrani chairman instead of Bilawal. If PDM wants success, they should make Sanjrani their leader,” said Safi.

  • Nawaz Sharif has not undergone any procedure since 2020

Nawaz Sharif has not undergone any procedure since 2020

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has not undergone any medical procedure since 2020, reports Dawn.

Sources privy to the matter revealed to the news outlet that the former prime minister was advised to undergo a fresh cardiac procedure that is not without its risks.

Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said that Sharif has had ample time for treatment — Covid or no Covid — and “if he has survived for two years on medication alone, he is stable” enough to travel back to Pakistan.

Rashid further points out that while cardiac catheterisation — the procedure that the former premier was scheduled to undergo when he proceeded abroad — could also have been carried out in Pakistan, Sharif had insisted he would prefer to undergo the procedure in the UK, where he had already been operated upon twice.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Attorney-General of Pakistan (AGP) Barrister Khalid Javed Khan has said that there is no evidence to support that Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports are fake.

Speaking on Geo News show ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, the AGP Javed said they do not want to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Shehbaz Sharif over the subject of Nawaz Sharif’s return. Instead, he said, they want the situation to be settled amicably.

AGP Khalid Javed said that Rashid too said that the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif were not fake.

Earlier the AGP had written a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to bring back his brother Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.

The AGP had instructed Shehbaz to submit Nawaz’s medical reports within the next ten days. In case he fails to do so, contempt of court petition will be filed against Shahbaz.

‘No evidence that Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports were fake’: Attorney-General of Pakistan

Attorney-General of Pakistan (AGP) Barrister Khalid Javed Khan has said that there is no evidence to support that Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports are fake.

AGP Khalid Javed said that Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid too said that the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif were not fake.

AGP said that he is waiting for a decision made by the medical board constituted to further comment on the reports. Until they don’t submit an authentic and comprehensive report, he will wait.

He also said that he has requested Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif to cooperate and submit Nawaz’s recent medical reports so that the due proceedings can happen. He also said that the medical board will then examine Nawaz’s reports once again and will plan out further accordingly.

Earlier this week, the AGP had written a letter to the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to bring back his brother Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan.

The AGP had instructed Shehbaz to submit Nawaz’s medical reports within the next 10 days. In case he fails to do so, contempt of court petition will be filed against Shahbaz, he had said.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar had previously revealed that it was “100 per cent Imran Khan’s decision” to send the former PM to London for his medical treatment. “This was first discussed in a cabinet meeting,” he said, adding that the decision was entirely made by the prime minister and the premier did not say that the decision was not his.

  • SCBA president files petition against lifetime disqualification in SC

SCBA president files petition against lifetime disqualification in SC

President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Mohammad Ahsan Bhoon on Thursday filed a petition against the lifelong disqualification of lawmakers and said that such a law without the right to appeal is unjust.

The petition asks the Supreme Court (SC) to rule that the declaration by a court of law under Article 62(1)(f) only applies to the election under question, and does not entail a perpetual or lifetime bar on contesting future elections, reports Dawn.

The petition argues that the lack of clarity regarding the procedure for a declaration under Article 62(1)(f) continues to pose an obstacle to the constitutional protection of citizens under Article 17(2), which allows citizens to form or become a member of any political party.

It is pertinent to mention here that the result of this petition can affect the outcome of SC verdicts disqualifying former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) disgruntled leader Jahangir Tareen.

The two were disqualified as lawmakers in judgements rendered in the Panama Papers case on July 28, 2017, and the Hanif Abbasi case on Dec 15, 2017, respectively.

The contents of the petition said that the principle of lifetime disqualification should only be applied to electoral disputes. Under Article 184/3 of the Constitution, the SC cannot act as a trial court and there is no right to appeal against the decisions made by the apex court, which contradicts the principles of justice.

The petition said that the lifelong disqualification without the right to appeal is unjust to the voters.

Government ally PML-Q’s Chaudhry Shujaat advises govt to focus on inflation instead of Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has advised the government to focus on national issues instead of Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that Nawaz will not come back. “It seems rather funny when PTI’s members make comments about his return.”

He further stated that if the government keeps focusing on Sharif’s return, then Pakistan is in the hands of Allah. According to him, the government has spent a large amount of money on his [Nawaz] proceedings.

While talking about the issues in the country, he also pointed out that no one gives any sort of solution to solve inflation because they [govt] are busy in the leg-pulling of others.

  • ‘It’s in the interest of the country that establishment and Khan be on same page’: Sheikh Rasheed

‘It’s in the interest of the country that establishment and Khan be on same page’: Sheikh Rasheed

Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has said that there is no difference between Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and the military leadership and it is in the interest of the country that the establishment and Imran Khan be on the same page.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Urdu, Rasheed said that the military leadership had decided that it would stand by the elected government.

Responding to a question about the differences between the government and the army, the minister said, “Small differences can happen. There may be differences of opinion between the civil government and the establishment, but they are on the same page.”

Rasheed had recently stated that the hand of the establishment is on Imran Khan’s head and later said that he was asked to withdraw this statement.

However, Rasheed said he was still standing by his statement and that he had been asked by a person in the civilian government, not the establishment, to withdraw his statement. “I did not name the establishment but I meant that the policies of the government and the institutions are on the same page,” he explained.

Rasheed further said that the PM is adamant on the issue of corruption and accountability and that he fired many people from the party or positions who were accused or suspected of corruption. “Imran Khan can’t do more than that,” he said.

Accountability was Imran Khan’s biggest slogan but we did not get the success we deserved, he added.

Rasheed said that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was trying to repatriate those wanted by the courts and the government in Pakistan, but he also complained that despite many efforts, it is still not possible for Ishaq Dar to return.

Regarding the return of former PM Nawaz Sharif, he said that the government of Pakistan is trying to get him back. “We have been doing this for three and a half years. We sent him ourselves, it is our fault. He [Nawaz] managed to throw dust in everyone’s eyes and went out.”

Rasheed said that the reason for the former adviser on accountability and interior Shahzad Akbar’s resignation and the Prime Minister’s displeasure with him was not only about bringing back Nawaz Sharif or Shehbaz Sharif but also because “we could not bring back the money”.

Sheikh Rasheed says there is room for improvement everywhere in the accountability process. “We need to prepare cases well, be good lawyers. Imran Khan has no lack of intent, he says giving National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) would be treason.”
