    • Dr Adnan Khan, has said that Professor Simon Redwood of the London Bridge Hospital had recommended hospital admission for the former prime minister to undergo angiogram followed by further intervention.
    • “Once he has gone through all haematological investigations, we will then have a clear picture of what is required next and what the exact treatment should be”, Dr Adnan added.

    Treason case: Musharraf, Govt file petition against special court’s verdict on Nov 28

    • The federal interior ministry and former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf both submitted pleas in the Islamabad High Court on Monday, requesting it to stop the special court from announcing its reserved verdict in the high treason case against the former army chief.
    • The special court, constituted to try the former military ruler for high treason, was set to announce its verdict on November 28. The IHC will hear the case on Tuesday.
    • The ministry in its plea has stated that the accusers to be tried with Pervez Musharraf were not included in the trial. The prosecution team was denotified on Oct 23, but it proceeded with the case on Oct 24 without having an authority in the matter.

    Hundreds of charity posters and pamphlets with a picture of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif have emerged in different parts of London, requesting donations for the ailing former prime minister’s (PM) treatment, a private media outlet has reported.

    “Please donate your Sadqa and Zakat to save your qaumi (national) hero,” read the banners, a majority of which have emerged in East London.

    The former premier is currently in London for medical treatment. On Wednesday, PML-N chief Shehbaz Sharif, while talking to media, had said that his brother’s medical treatment would begin after a complete medical examination.

    “Nawaz has undergone some medical tests today [Wednesday] with others more to follow,” he had said while briefing media over the ongoing treatment of the former premier outside Guy’s Hospital. Shehbaz had also prayed for the health of the three-time prime minister of the country.

    Ex-PM Nawaz reached London on Tuesday night for medical treatment in a “high-end air ambulance” equipped with an intensive care unit and an operation theatre.

    Nawaz was accompanied by PML-N President Shehbaz and personal physician Dr Adnan Khan. A team of doctors and paramedics were also on board to cope with any emergency situation.

    As soon as the former premier exited through the VVIP gate at Heathrow in London, he was welcomed by a convoy of party loyalists who took him home. In a statement, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Nawaz had safely landed in London and thankfully had not faced any medical complications during the flight.

    She also asked the nation to pray for Nawaz’s health.

    Ailing former premier was granted bail on humanitarian grounds while he underwent treatment at Lahore’s Services Hospital following a precarious drop in his platelet count last month. He was shifted to the hospital from Kot Lakhpat jail and later diagnosed with acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), an immune disorder that leads to an abrupt and sharp drop in blood platelet.

    Last week, the Lahore High Ccourt (LHC) had permitted Nawaz to seek medical treatment abroad without any conditions for a time period of four weeks. In its decision, the LHC said that in case Nawaz’s health doesn’t improve then the time-period can be extended, adding that the government officials will be able to contact Nawaz through the Pakistani Embassy.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former finance minister Ishaq Dar’s son Ali Dar has said that PML-N Vice President (VP) Maryam Nawaz’s presence in London is essential for her ailing father and former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s treatment.

    “Maryam is aware of her father’s deteriorating health and knows his medical history. His [Nawaz’s] sons haven’t lived with him for around 20 years,” Dar reportedly said.

    Former premier Nawaz is in London after he was allowed to travel abroad for medical treatment despite his convition in corruption cases. His daughter Maryam, however, was denied the same due to the ongoing Chaudhry Sugar Mills case against her.

    Granting her bail, the court had told her to submit her passport with the court.

    Dar’s demand seeking foreign travel for Maryam to see her ailing father comes amid reports that she will soon be moving the Lahore High Court (LHC) in this regard. While PM Imran Khan has said that Maryam won’t be allowed to go to London come what may, according to some journalists, the government won’t be challenging the move if Nawaz’s health deteriorates any further.

    Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi, sharing a video of Nawaz Sharif and his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif walking out of Heathrow Airport, expressed that Francis Ford Coppola who co-wrote and directed 1970s classic The Godfather should “do a film on the Sharif family of Pakistan.”

    It is pertinent to mention here that Francis Ford Coppola did not write The Godfather. While he co-wrote the script and directed the film, the film was based on Mario Puzo’s best-selling novel of the same name.

    The video shows the former prime minister walking out and hugging his son and the leader of the opposition, Shehbaz putting his best fashion front forward sporting a British bowler hat.

    Nawaz reached London yesterday in an air ambulance via Doha, accompanied by Shehbaz and personal physician Dr Adnan.

The film’s plot is centred on Don Vito Corleone who is the head a mafia family. Corleone decides to hand over his empire to his youngest son Michael, a decision that puts the family in jeopardy.

    Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khan Khosa has said that it weren’t the courts that allowed ailing former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif to leave the country and PM Imran Khan should refrain from making such statements.

    “The PM should not blame the courts for Nawaz’s departure by saying we wrapped up the case of an influential person because, for us it is only the law that is all-powerful,” the top judge said while addressing a gathering in Islamabad.

    He said that the premier had mentioned “powerful and the weak” in his speech without realising that the judiciary had wrapped up around 3.6 million cases of those who were neither powerful nor influential.

    CJP Khosa further said that both the powerful and the weak were equal for the judiciary and these were the same courts that had sentenced one PM and disqualified another.

    “Only the law is powerful to us,” the top judge said, adding that he would not comment over any subjudice matter unlike the premier, but “whoever left the country was allowed by PM Imran himself”.

    “Another verdict is about to come,” he said in what appeared to be a hint at the forthcoming ruling on former military ruler Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf’s high-treason case.

    Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has expressed hope that ailing former premier Nawaz Sharif, who left the country for medical treatment Tuesday, will return as per the court’s instructions, saying that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had always respected the judiciary.

    “The indemnity bonds demand was only to ensure that Nawaz will return to face the cases against him,” Imran reportedly told a federal cabinet meeting wherein it was also decided that the government won’t be challenging the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision that allowed Nawaz to travel abroad.

    Last Tuesday, the federal cabinet had permitted the former premier to travel abroad for medical treatment with the condition that he should furnish indemnity bonds worth over Rs7 billion to ensure his return within four weeks.

    The amount was equal to the fine imposed on him at the time of his conviction by an accountability court of Islamabad in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Avenfield properties cases. However, the LHC allowed him to travel abroad without any such bond but with an undertaking that he would definitely return to Pakistan.

    Ailing former prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, who is currently travelling from Lahore to London for medical treatment, was on Tuesday evening spotted in his air ambulance along with his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif and personal physician Dr Adnan Khan.

    Seven people are travelling with Nawaz, who was granted special permission by the court to seek medical treatment abroad despite his conviction in the Al-Azizia reference case and subsequent jail term. He had earlier been granted bail on humanitarian grounds while he sought treatment at Lahore’s Services Hospital.

    He had been shifted to the hospital from Kot Lakhpat jail after a precarious drop in his platelet count last month and later diagnosed with acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), an immune disorder that leads to an abrupt and sharp drop in blood platelet.

    The air ambulance that arrived at 8:45am at Lahore Airport on Tuesday, had Qatar as its first destination, from where it will continue its journey towards London. At least 21 senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders saw off their party supremo from the Hajj Terminal of the Lahore Airport earlier in the day.

    Since Nawaz’s name remains on the Exit Control List (ECL) even after the court allowed him to go abroad for medical treatment, he produced the court order to get past immigration officials. According to reports, his name will remain on the no-fly list as per the law, but his exemption according to the court order was mentioned in the computerised record.

    LHC VERDICT:

    The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday permitted to remove Nawaz’s name from the ECL without any conditions for a time period of four weeks.

    On Friday, the LHC called the plea admissible regarding the removal of former premier’s name from the ECL on a conditional basis — the government had said it would allow a “one-time permission”, provided Nawaz deposited surety bonds worth Rs7-7.5 billion.

    In its decision, the LHC said that in case Nawaz’s health doesn’t improve then the time-period can be extended, adding that the government officials will be able to contact Nawaz through the Pakistani Embassy.

    PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the doctors conducted a thorough medical test in the morning.

    “If Nawaz Sharif had left 15 days earlier, then his treatment would have already started by now,” Aurangzeb said, adding that “Nawaz will have to be taken to US for treatment.”

    She also said that we will consult the doctors in London and then take a decision,, adding that Nawaz was kept on high dose medicine for 15 days.

    Aurangzeb further shared that in the absence of Nawaz and Shehbaz, party affairs will be handled by the senior leadership of the PML-N.

    The administration of Allama Iqbal International Airport has completed the preparations after receiving a copy of the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict that allowed PML-N supremo to travel abroad. The Interior Ministry has also released a memorandum clearing Nawaz to fly out of the country.

    According to the memorandum, in an interim agreement in light of the LHC verdict, Nawaz has been permitted to fly aboard on a ‘one-time permission’ for a period of four weeks on medical grounds.

    Moreover, the memorandum includes affidavits submitted by Shehbaz and his elder brother to the LHC.

    Lahore High Court (LHC) has allowed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to travel abroad for four weeks for medical treatment, saying the duration could be extended based on medical reports.

    As per reports, an air ambulance will arrive on Tuesday morning to transport Nawaz Sharif to London. Nawaz’s physician, Dr Adnan Khan took to social media to announce that the former premier was scheduled to travel to London within 48 hours once he’s clinically stabilized.

    What is an air ambulance?

    Air ambulance is an aircraft that is equipped to fly as an intensive care unit (ICU).

    medically staffed and equipped air ambulance provides medical care in flight
    while a non-medically equipped and staffed aircraft simply transports patients
    without a care in flight. All medical equipment and medications are selected to
    fit the needs of the patient that is being transported so it can differ from
    patient to patient.

    Common equipment for air ambulances includes medications, ventilators, ECGs (a test that measures the electrical activity of the heartbeat) and monitoring units, CPR equipment ( a life-saving technique that is used when someone is suffering from any emergency issue such as cardiac arrest, heart attack or drowning), and stretchers.

    The equipment in each air ambulance can include everything from breathing apparatus and monitoring systems, pacemakers and defibrillators (devices that restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart) to blood transfusion equipment and a comprehensive supply of medication. The flight crew includes pilots and a medical team that will be able to meet patient needs.

    What Nawaz Sharif’s air ambulance will include?

    Dr Adnan tweeted that Nawaz’s ambulance would be equipped with a fully functional and staffed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as well as an operation theater. A team of doctors and paramedics headed by an Intensivist would also be there for Nawaz.
