PM Jacinda Ardern shows us how to respond to a misogynist question

New Zealand Prime Minister (PM) Jacinda Ardern shuts down a male journalist for asking a misogynist question.

Arden was hosting Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin at Auckland’s Government House on Wednesday during the first visit by a Premier from the European country to New Zealand.

However, a male reporter zoomed in on what he seemed to think was the most important thing Ardern, 42, and Marin, 37, have in common.

He asked, “A lot of people will be wondering: ‘Are you two meeting just because you’re similar in age and have got a lot of common stuff there — when you got into politics and stuff — or can Kiwis actually expect to see more deals between our two countries down the line?”

Ardern interrupted the question to say that she wondered “whether or not anyone ever asked Barack Obama and John Key if they met because they were of similar age.”

With a smile on her face, she added: “We, of course, have a higher proportion of men in politics, it’s a reality. Because two women meet, it is not simply because of their gender.”

She then schooled the reporter on the important trade relations between the countries. “It’s our job to further it, regardless of our gender,” Arden concluded.

Meanwhile, Marin said: “We are meeting because we are prime ministers, of course … we have a lot of things in common, but also a lot of things where we can do much more together.”

The question about age and gender drew criticism in local media outlets, where it was described as “not-so-subtle sexism” and “casual sexism”.

The viral clip rapidly gained the attention of Twitterati who applauded the female leaders.

‘Pakistan definitely out-bowled, out-batted and out-fielded New Zealand’: Former Indian captain Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble, a former captain of India, said on ESPNcricinfos T20 Time Out show that Pakistan “definitely out-bowled New Zealand, they out-batted New Zealand, but most importantly, they out-fielded New Zealand, which is very, very rare.”

Tom Moody, a former all-rounder for Australia, picked up a specific moment during New Zealand’s powerplay that was a reflection of Pakistan’s level of dedication on Wednesday.

“The tone for me was set with one piece of fielding,” Moody said. “And it’s not the run-out. It’s before the run-out [of Devon Conway]. It was by Shadab [Khan], who was at mid-on, dived and stopped the ball from going for four.

“Kane Williamson played a beautiful on-drive, a straight on-drive, and he [Shadab] saved two runs. And that to me set the tone for the way they were going to operate as a team. You talk about body language but you need moments like that to lift the unit and that’s the standard that he basically said ‘this is the standard we are going to set today.”

New Zealand was limited to 38 for 2 on the powerplay as a result of Pakistan’s outstanding fielding in the circle. Shadab’s straight shot to run out Conway produced the second wicket. Pakistan eventually managed to restrict New Zealand to 152 for 8, winning with seven wickets and five balls remaining.

Kumble applauded Haris’ contribution to the match, which includes his 89 runs with a strike rate of 161.81 since joining the team to fill in for Fakhar Zaman.

“Looking at him [Haris], he looks like a free spirit,” Kumble said. “He’s not bothered about getting his eye in or what if the first ball he gets out. That’s what you want in a T20 game.”

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that “We were put under pressure early, they bowled really well and it was thanks to an unbelievable knock from Daryl Mitchell that we got some momentum back.

“At halfway, we thought it was a competitive total because we knew the pitch was a used surface, it was tough.

“But it’s really disappointing to not make Pakistan work harder for those runs, they were absolutely outstanding today and credit has to go to them.”

In the meantime, Shoaib Akhtar, a Pakistani fast bowler, was also overjoyed with Pakistan’s victory.

Former South African allrounder Vernon Philander joined in congratulating Pakistan for making it into the final.

Wasim Akram added his congratulations to those on the side of Pakistani team.

Irfan Pathan, an Indian all-rounder, sent a message as well, praising the Pakistani team for overcoming a near-certain elimination from the competition to reach the final.

England crushes India by 10 wickets to reach T20 World Cup final

England has defeated India by ten wickets to get to the T20 World Cup final. While chasing a 169-run mark, England won convincingly in 16 overs without losing a wicket.

As England’s captain Jos Buttler and opener Alex Hales both struck scorching fifties, the Indian bowlers were completely lost.

Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya each scored fifty runs earlier, helping India set England a goal of 169 runs. In the second T20 World Cup semi-final, England had won the toss and elected to bat first.

In their allotted 20 overs, the Men in Blue scored 168-6, with Hardik Pandya being the hero after slamming 63 runs in 33 balls. He knocked out five sixes and four fours in a combative manner.

With the help of four fours and a six, Kohli scored 50 runs in 40 balls. During the match, Chris Jordan recorded 3-43 in four overs for England.

On Sunday, November 13, the victor of this game will play Pakistan, which defeated New Zealand in the first semifinal.

Mark Wood and Dawid Malan, who were both injured, have been replaced by Phil Salt and Chris Jordan. India’s lineup for the match remains the same.

“We have another chance to perform and play in the manner we have been throughout the competition. Important to maintain your composure “Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, stated during the toss.

Jos Buttler, captain of England, acknowledged that “the dimensions here [Adelaide] are a little different,” making it crucial for his squad to “adjust quickly.”

India advanced to the semifinals by dominating their group and winning four of their five Super 12 games.

The World Cup Super 12 group in which England placed second required a nail-biting victory over Sri Lanka for them to advance to the final four.

Video: Shoaib Akhtar asks fans to give suggestions to Pakistani team

On Wednesday, Pakistan will face New Zealand in the first T20 World Cup semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar chatted with fans ahead of the crucial match.

Akhtar posted the footage to social media. Akhtar can be seen in the video sitting inside his car, asking fans about the ongoing T20 World Cup. While a couple of fans gave suggestions to Pakistani team ahead of the semi-final game against New Zealand, one of them turned out to be a huge fan of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

On Akhtar’s request, the fan mouthed one of Shah Rukh’s most famous sentences from the blockbuster film ‘Badshah.’

However, the discourse was too long, and Akhtar had to cut him off with a witty one-liner.

“Beta Shah Rukh Khan hai, itne lambe dialogue nahi bolte (Boy, he is Shah Rukh Khan! Why are you mouthing such a long dialogue?),” Akhtar said.

Since then, the video of the conversation has gone viral, receiving thousands of likes and retweets.

After losing their first two group games, Pakistan was on the verge of exiting the T20 World Cup.

The Babar Azam-led team, on the other hand, won their following two games to stay in the competition.

The Netherlands stunned South Africa while the odds were still stacked against them.

Pakistan needed to beat Bangladesh in their final game to advance, and the 2009 T20 World Cup champions achieved just that.

Babar Azam’s father hopeful for son’s comeback, prays for Pakistan’s win ahead of PAK vs NZ semi-final

Azam Siddique, the father of Pakistan captain Babar Azam, has extended his best wishes and prayers to his son and Pakistan team ahead of their decisive T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against New Zealand.

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by five wickets on Sunday to advance to the final four of the big tournament. However, defeating the Tigers would not have been enough to move the Men in Green to the next round, since they required either Zimbabwe to defeat India or the Netherlands to defeat South Africa.

On Sunday, Fortune backed Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval. The Europeans defeated the Proteas by 13 runs, paving the way for the 2009 World T20 champions.

Before the crucial encounter, the captain’s father took to his official Instagram account to wish the green shirts success.

So far, the ongoing T20 World Cup has not gone well for Babar. The hitter has struggled to score big for his team, scoring only 39 runs in five Super 12 matches.

However, with his name and track record, he cannot be counted off right away.

On Wednesday, November 9, Pakistan will face the runners-up from last year at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Moreover, on Thursday, November 10, India will face England in the second semi-final of the major event at the Adelaide Oval.

Naseem Shah tests positive for Covid-19

Before the crucial seven-match T20I series against England at home, fast bowler Naseem Shah has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Geo Super.

The bowler is presently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, and will not be available for the final two Twenty20 internationals against England.

Shah was recently admitted to a hospital for treatment after experiencing a high fever, where his dengue test was also done, but it was later discovered that he has a chest infection, which has led to further problems.

Yesterday, it was reported that the right-arm pacer was diagnosed with pneumonia, and he may miss the remainder of the ongoing series, while also casting doubts on his participation in the forthcoming tri-nation series in New Zealand and the T20 World Cup in Australia.

“Naseem Shah’s participation in the upcoming matches and departure to New Zealand with the squad will be decided after seeing his medical reports,” a cricket board official said in a statement.

The management decided that Naseem should recuperate ahead of the tri-nation series in New Zealand and the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, therefore he has only participated in one of the four games.

In the just-finished Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, Naseem Shah made his T20I debut. There, he put up an amazing bowling performance, capturing seven wickets in five games with an economy rate of 7.66.

‘First female Muslim PM, first to give birth in office’: NZ PM Jacinda Ardern praises Benazir Bhutto in Harvard Speech

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern paid homage to former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in an address at Harvard University.

“In June 1989, the Prime Minister of Pakistan stood on this spot and delivered the commencement address titled ‘Democratic nations must unite‘. She spoke about her journey, the importance of citizenry, representative government, human rights, and democracy,” said Jacinda while talking about Benazir.

“I met Benazir Bhutto in Geneva in June of 2007. We both attended a conference that drew together progressive parties from around the world. Just seven months, later she was assassinated.”

“There will be opinions and differing perspectives written about all of us as political leaders. Two things that history will not contest about Benazir Bhutto: she was the first Muslim female Prime Minister elected in an Islamic country, when a woman in power was a rare thing. She was also the first to give birth in office.”

“The second and only other leader to have given birth in office almost 30 years later was me,” added the New Zealand prime minister.

During the address she also revealed that her daughter, Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford, was born on Benazir’s birthday, i.e. June 21.

Ardern borrowed words from Benazir Bhutto’s1989 Harvard Commencement address, “We must realise that democracy… can be fragile.”

“I read those words as I sat in my office in Wellington, New Zealand. A world away from Pakistan. And while the reasons that gave rise for her words then were vastly different, they still ring true.”

“Democracy can be fragile,” said Ardern.

“This imperfect but precious way that we organise ourselves, that has been created to give equal voice to the weak and to the strong, that is designed to help drive consensus — it is fragile.”

“For years it feels as though we have assumed that the fragility of democracy was determined by duration. That somehow the strength of your democracy was like a marriage – the longer you’d been in it, the more likely it was to stick.”

Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman shared the video and wrote, “Thank u Prime Minister Ardern.”

PCB finalises schedule for PSL8 without consulting franchises

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalised the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) schedule without consulting the franchises, states Geo News’ sources.

“There was no discussion between franchises and the PSL management regarding the schedule but despite that, it was finalised,” the franchises were quoted as saying by the sources.

PSL8 will be held between February 15 and March 31, 2023. The venue has also been finalised as the tournament will take place in four cities of Pakistan — Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi.

Before the start of the league, international cricket teams — New Zealand and West Indies will visit Pakistan in January 2023.

It is pertinent to mention that some media reports suggest that the new federal government decided to remove the current Chairman of PCB Ramiz Raja from his position.

  • Pakistan to host Cricket World Cup for veteran players in 2023

Pakistan will host Cricket World Cup for veteran players in the next year 2023. The age limit for players to play in the tournament would be 40 and above.

According to Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), 12 teams will play in the tournament which will commence on September 23, 2023, at six venues in Karachi while the final match will be played on October 8.

Fawad Ijaz Khan, Chairman PVCA told the media: “Pakistan will be joined in the World Cup by old rivals – India, Australia, England, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Canada, USA, Zimbabwe, Wales, UAE, and Namibia.”

He added, “It is going to be a major event and we will take all steps to make sure that we host it successfully.”

“We have a number of leading cricketers who would be eligible to compete in the World Cup. We are hoping that top players like Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, and Mohammad Hafeez will play for Pakistan. We are going to field a very strong team and will be the favorites to win the World Cup,” he further said.

There is a new concept that will give an opportunity to former cricketers to play on the fields again while young audiences and players will also get another chance to see their seniors playing on the grounds.

Every match will be of 45 overs and local TV channels will broadcast the matches of Pakistan including the semi-finals and finals live.

The Veterans World Cup, aged above 50, was first launched in Australia in 2018. However, its second edition was canceled due to a covid pandemic.

  • Australia’s tour is “huge message” to the world: Wasim Khan

Australia’s tour is “huge message” to the world: Wasim Khan

Former CEO of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wasim Khan called it a delight and a privilege to welcome Australia to Pakistan and termed it a “huge occasion” for not only cricket fans in Pakistan but also around the globe.

Speaking to Geo News, Wasim Khan said that he “gets very excited about the tour like all other Pakistanis and cricket lovers as it is a huge occasion for the whole nation”.

He said that this will send out a “huge message” to the world.

He admitted there had been concerns about touring Pakistan from the players a few months ago, but they had all been put away by Pakistan’s security arrangements.

“Hockley thanked me for all the hard work that was done for nearly 18 months to finalise the details of the tour,” said Wasim.

Wasim said that it wasn’t just a single person’s work but a team effort as many people played their part to make this possible. “I have been in regular contact with Cricket Australia’s management and also players like Usman Khwaja,” he added.

Wasim Khan said that there are many people on both sides that have worked tirelessly over the months to make this tour a reality. “This tour also sends out a strong and positive message to the entire world.” And he is confident that when the Australian team returns home, they will leave with fond memories.

Last year, England and New Zealand cricketers didn’t play in Pakistan because of security concerns.

Wasim added that there is no reason left for both England and New Zealand to not tour Pakistan later this year.

“It feels so great that such positive news is coming out of Pakistan. The statements from Australians are very encouraging, which is a real proud moment for Pakistan.”

“I was personally very disappointed, in fact, everyone was, as all of us put so much effort to make that possible,” he said.
